- Not only did we get to start planting in our veg garden this week, we also got to go to Charlotte’s first ever carnival. It's been a busy week here on the homestead and it is only going to get busier once spring arrives.

No samba unfortunately it was more traditional Portuguese music which seems to be really popular in this area. When we lived in the south there was more of a Brazilian community so might find more down that way.
@@TheSunnySaudadeProject Yeah, I grew up with this kind of carnival but I was very scared of the "cabeçudos" 😊 but actually I think I prefer this more popular carnival ❤😄

You mentioned in a previous video you want to paint your outside walls. There's a YT channel called My15KHouse, episode 5. There the guy shows how to make and paint with 'limewash', a selfmade paint using lime. So, natural and cheap. And with a great result on his house.
I'm planning to try it out on my old garden walls. Once the rain and cold stop here in Belgium.

Uma dica (em português para o Carlos ler) para as paredes. Molha-las, através de spray, com água com mistura de vinagre branco ou de sidra e bicarbonato de sódio. Depois de 5-10minutos escovar/esfregar com esponja ou pano molhado (pode ser c com o mesmo preparado). É mais natural e mata os fungos além de desinfetar. Ou então com lixívia muito pouco diluída em água. Aprecio muito os vossos videos. Vejo sempre. Felicidades para os dois.🙋🏻♀️🩵

Ahhh!! E, já agora, o mais habitual/normal é dizer tchau e não tchauzinho, penso que vem do italiano 'ciao' que soa a chau. Embora usemos (portugueses) o tchauzinho em algumas situações. Espero que não levem a mal esta correção, mas é tão, tão raro ouvir o tchauzinho. Agora até já me habituei e penso que já não vos imagino a dizer tchau. Desculpem tanto palavreado....
I was going to give you the same advice, half vinegar, half water in a spraybottle to get rid of the mold. And it's cheap.

Oh we tried washing the ceiling when the coffee pot exploded that will need a complete repaint as coffee just stains everything 😂😂😂 it looks better than when it first happened though our kitchen was covered in brown patches 😅 does make me laugh though😂

For the mould, please to not wait to long as it can affect your health. A DIY solution that cost not a lot of money are soda crystals.
Can soda crystals remove Mould :
Garden Furniture & Ornaments. Use a regular strength solution of Soda Crystals with a hard bristle brush to remove anything that is caked-on, mould, algae and mud.
Remember, if you're getting more plants from your strawberries, you won't get much fruit. Maybe set a few aside for just getting fruit.
The render could be contributing to the mould if it’s concrete render.
Try finding a agriloja or something similar, I just got 20 strawberry crowns for 6€
Yh we have a few in fundão but I was after plants rather than the roots to get a head start. They did have some at the shop as well but the ones in the market looked a lot healthier. We try shopping around at both to find the best prices. The agriloja definitely has the best seeds and compost though.
Since the clearcutting of your pines did your soil not erode with the rains?
That Carnival seems very tame. 😂 Not at all like the festivities in Brazil or New Orleans. 😂 Not that I’ve been to either!
Not really. I don’t know if it really shows on camera but we left any small Cork or oak that was growing so that we can create a more natural forest later on. I don’t know if this has protected the earth that we have. Also there is a lot of granite on that side so I don’t know if there was a lot of earth to erode anyway. I must admit I used to go to Notting Hill carnival back in London and this was VERY different 😂 Carlos has been saying that this was a very tame one tbf. I think next year we may look to travelling to a bigger carnival. We will see…

I am curious what your power set up is are you mains power or off grid cheers
So we would eventually like to be fully off grid however the price of a fully off grid system was almost double than than the solar system we went for. We are connected to the grid still but have more solar panels than we currently need and are thinking of getting a second battery as well. Most of our power is supplied by the system. We are also applying to sell any extra power we make back to the grid in the summer. This way we should eventually not have to pay for electricity as we produce so much in the summer months. However in true Portuguese fashion this process is pretty slow 😅
I know this is a little ‘ off piste’ but I see a baby before the year is out ? xxx
