Great idea on using the auger drill! I also would have loved seeing you use that pyramid pan/sluice! A demonstration how to use one would be very interesting.
Bought one of those augers about 5 years ago. I think it was for planting flower bulbs . Got it hung up in some roots and bent the shaft. Like you I got the idea from Tony Beets on gold rush .

That’s a great concept. My buddy Cowboy Jim in Arizona does that. I never thought about doing it here in the East.

I've used a rotary hammer drill + portable vacuum to punch holes deep in hard packed gravels, also works well.
Greatest idea i've seen, i have seen it in dry SW done with bigger, but smaller "Genius"...and more.
Working the line next to decaying bedrock with an auger is an excellent idea!
