Personally, I don't see anything wrong with a basic hero's journey type story that's executed very well. That's why Demon Slayer is at least an A for me.
Very happy with Attack on Titan, FMA, Breaking Bad and Berserk up so high. Personally would put Doom Patrol a bit higher but B tier is still good. Really hope they'll rank Mob Psycho, Gurren Lagann and Hunter x Hunter highly as they, and Attack on Titan, all are in my top 5 shows of all time, lol. Clone Wars and Mandalorian are both easy S-tier and I highly doubt they'd put them lower since they're all big Star Wars dorks. Umbrella Academy deserves to be in atleast B-tier IMO, and GoT is really tough because the first half is really amazing but the last 3-4 seasons really bring it down.
Props to Eric and Aaron for staying true to their word, that it was one of the best shows they had ever watched, and putting Agents Of SHIELD in its rightful place. Kudos.
Really enjoying the Brooklyn Nine-Nine reactions, it's fun to sort of re-watch a series a love and see others enjoy it was well. Blind Wave reactions always give me a little something extra to think about with their discussions. Also, for anyone who enjoyed watching Sci-Fi series like Firefly, you should check out the show Killjoys (5 seasons - 50 episodes) - It's a funny and emotionally fulfilling series.
I don't necessarily agree with all of their rankings, but Chernobyl is the only one I genuinely take issue with. Especially after they switched to the expanded brackets with E and F, and slotted everything down to B tier, there's no reason at all why Chernobyl should be on the same tier as freaking Arrow lol. It may not be an S for everybone, but surely it's better than that.

I'm surprised Berserk scored so low with Aaron and Eric. The show definitely has few if any high-highs but I don't think Berserk is necessarily a show that needs those things to be great. The characters Guts, Griffith, and Casca are easily some of the most grounded and realistic characters written. Griffith is an interesting character because he's probably the show's most complex one. His goal and values are often at odds with each other. He will say one thing then seemingly contradict himself in the next episode with his words or actions leaving the viewer confused as to which it is that's correct. Because the show only gives brief glimpses into Griffith's psyche, it's often not clear what he's thinking, yet despite the contradictions, you can vaguely piece it together. But just as you think you understand Griffith, the show hits you with its ending. I thought the old animation actually elevated the show for me. The long pauses, bizarre cuts, lingering frames, slow pans, bizarre music really matched the somberness, and eeriness of the show. Nothing is overtly loud or flashy in the way you see more recent anime look or feel. The show deals with dark subject matters like Casca's story or Griffith's willingness to sell himself that few medieval shows dare to delve into. It's handled in a way that isn't too graphic; they touch on it for a couple of minutes and move on, nothing graphic is ever shown (at least in the anime). In additional to the dark subject matter, the show knows how to be bleak and depressing without being overbearing thanks to Sir Adon, though some people may feel otherwise about him. Not to mention the philosophical themes of the show regrading fate and freewill, and how these themes are portrayed in Griffith's climb to nobility with the Band of the Hawk in his victories with a mystery element to it. While the show can be silly at times with Sir Adon, the grunt soldiers acting like characters out of a cartoon, and you can even knitpick other parts of the show like why doesn't Guts wear a helmet or whatever, but I don't think these things take away from Berserk so much as to lower it as an average show. Considering the show was first written in 1989, to have a strong female character like Casca with all the dealings of being a women in a cruel medieval world is an achievement that makes Berserk special in a sea of anime that did very little towards that end.
Probably the abrupt anime ending too that affects it. Anime watchers who read the manga afterwards as well as manga readers who watch the anime will probably consider it better than those who've only watched the show.
The way Eric and Aaron described Agents of Shield as being one of their favorite shows because of how it used its limitations as its strengths and and how once you get past the first couple episodes the show has amazing character work and emotional moments, instantly reminded me of one of my favorite shows: Gotham. Gotham too had many limitations and restrictions, but it didn’t matter because they played to their strengths and made one of the best goddamn superhero shows out there. Once you get to episode 6 or 7, it’s pretty much great from there on out, especially once you get to season 2 when they really start to hit their stride. It only had a few bumps along the way similar to how you likened AoS. Trust me, it truly is superb television with some downright compelling characters in there like The Penguin and The Riddler for instance. A lot of Batman’s rouges’ gallery actually have their best live action appearances in the show, like the aforementioned two supervillains, along with some who never really got a chance to be in the movies like Hugo Strange, Victor Zsasz, Professor Pyg, and the Mad Hatter. I can’t tell you how much I would love it if you reacted to this show, but I know that these kinds of things are decided by polls and for some reason everybody decided to stigmatize this show before even giving it a chance so it’s probably unlikely the show would win. But still, it’s worth a hope
I respect it, but Gotham got way too repetitive for me. They kept repeating tropes over and over again, and I’m not a fan of all the filler episodes, the only season of AOS that had filler was s1 and that was only used for character building and that character building really pays off at the end of ep 17. Gotham had filler episodes that didn’t really seem to pay off imo. Although I did enjoy a lot of the show and like everyone Oswald was my fav character. I respect ur opinion
Was a little sad seeing Unlimited Bladeworks in C. Understand their points and its all subjective of course, but I would rate it up with Zero for me. Also Lancer Cu Chulainn should make it objectively S tier Frankly :P.

For some reason, the TH-cam algorithm saw fit to queue this 2-year-old video into my autoplay, so congrats on doing something right w/ respect to their algorithm. And I decided to let it play in the background and have been convinced by your unanimous and enthusiastic adulation to check out Black Sails. What gives me pause is your comparable enthusiasm for Marvel Agents of SHIELD. This was a show I was so geeked to watch when it first aired. But I found it nearly unwatchable after 2 seasons. I was also given pause by your near unanimous enthusiasm about Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This was a show I so badly wanted to like. And while it was "fun" with the mood and tone and quirky cast of characters, I realized that that's all it was. After each episode, I did find myself smiling, but I need more when it comes to comedy. And as each episode passed by, I realized that I rarely laughed. Any genre of show can be fun. But for me, comedy's must be funny. It was your analysis of this show that made me realize that my tastes are probably most closely aligned to Calvin's. Anyway, I'll check out Black Sails w/ the highest of expectations. If this disappoints, I'll have trouble seeing trusting your judgment going forward, lol. I'll also check out your other ranking podcasts to fine-tune this as well. And I'll give y'all a fair shake and weigh your reasoning over your actual rankings. Because while I disagreed w/ how high you ranked Cobra Kai (as I LOVED season 1 but saw its precipitous drop-off into "regular TV fare" after that), I appreciated the caveats that accompanied your ranking and respect that it was more a subjectively visceral decision over a cerebral assessment of the art of its storytelling. Wish me luck as I sail off into the world of one of your favorite shows. I'll keep you posted about how it affects my opinion about your "credibility"😉

While I would personally put Berserk in S, to me "Fate/Zero" is just as good story/character-wise if not better + incredible visuals, makes it an easy S for me. UBW is prob a B. Thinking about the high's and low's (or just consistency), Fate/Zero pretty much knocks it out of the park with every ep. Another show I'd like to say my thoughts on is Avatar, while my heart says S because of how I grew up with it (and rewatching it I still think it holds up very well), I would still say that it is fairly inconsistent ep-to-ep, especially book 1.
Avatar for me has a really slow start. Until Toph joins the show seems kinda average with a few amazing epsiodes such as the season 1 finale. But after Toph joins it is almost all amazing.
yeah F/Z has more high moments and is more self contained along with being easier to adapt compared to UBW anime which suffers from the whole needing the other routes formula, direction, leaning more towards style over substance etc.. i agree with it being (although its a "A" for me)
Eric saying Code Geass was a D actually, legitimately broke my heart a little bit. I respect him so much, and hearing him say that about one of my favorite shows like actually took the wind out of me lol. Great discussions over all though!
I mean tbf C or B is the correct tier for Code Geass. It is extremely flawed but has good ending. I would say B since I'm an anime fan but I can see a lot of people really disliking this show so C is fine too. I think MHA is rated a little too high though. Should be in B. I Hope they do more Romcom/Shoujou too
Had to log my ass in just to say how shocked I am they put it so low. I've rewatched that show a dozen times. Look at some of the garbage that's in the same tier, wow.
This would be my tier list for all the shows I've seen from the list! S: Attack on Titian, Agent of Shield, Avatar the Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Dragon Ball(this me including Z and Super with this anime), Daredevil, Defenders, Code Geass A: Cobra Kai, Arrow, DragonBallZ Abridged, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fate UBW, Fruit Basket, Breaking Bad B: Agent Carter, Demon Slayer, Cowboy Bebop, Fate Zero C: Doctor Who, Dexter, Death Note, Castlevania, Chuck, Black Lighting E: Batwomen Don't have a D or F category now as none of the show I've listed place in those categories for me.
Blind wave is s tier, their integrity is their greatest strength. No fake bug eyed o faces. Or pre researching the fan consensus, then fake overreacting the fan consensus. No overrating things just because the viewers have a different oppinion. In a word, just really genuine. You guys are totally correct, code geas is one of the most overrated anime out there.
They're not saying Code Geass is overrated at all as a matter of fact most of them are leaning towards A and B Eric was just being a little petty and lowered the score by honestly kind of a lot
Eric echoed my thoughts exactly on Death Note regarding the character(s) guessing the exact right answer to progress the plot in a meaningful way - my only real gripe with the series.
Ehhhh, I don't know. I mean yes, Death Note definitely DOES do that sometimes, especially towards the end with Near and Mellow where they kinda just fucking rush through the back half of the plot. BUT, on the other hand, I recall numerous instances during the Death Note reactions where the show would do a perfectly good job of explaining how and why a character came to a certain conclusion with the information they had available to them, only for Eric to say "I feel like they just pulled that out of thin air" afterwards during the discussion. So while he's not necessarily wrong to make that criticism, I'm not 100% convinced some of it wasn't partially his own fault for not following the show's explanations.
For me Death Note is a masterpiece of tension and character dynamics, but only the first 25 episodes. L and Light were both so crucial to my enjoyment, Neer couldn't replace L for me.
A bit saddening to see that Rick doesnt like Shirou as a MC in UBW, hopefully if he ever does come around to reading the VN he'll see how much more complex and depth he has compared to his anime counterpart as the anime suffers from lack of direction for the characters, leaning more towards style over substance, lack of monologues for Shirou, and having no Fate route to be built upon F/Z at A is well deserved as it has alot of high moments, interesting dialogue, more self contained (easier to adapt and better director), and a banger OST
You gotta look through the stories he does live and compare the mcs of those shows to Shirou and you would see that he has a certain type and shirou, despite essentially being the main inspiration for the type for most future stories, end up as such a typical character of the type
I think that you have largely missed the point of Chuck. Great character development. All of the characters evolve and great acting. You missed the elaborate word play and some pretty good symbolism. Follow the appearances of baggage, for instance. The parallel structure of many of the episodes.
Would be awesome in future vids if you had the chat overlay with a transparency on the side. I see a lot of streamers who post their vods doing it and it’s a great touch especially for things like this.
Code Geass used to be my fav many years ago. These days I’d probably put it in like high B. It’s pretty damn good but certain characters and plot lines really bring the show down.
I found you through DBZA and while I don't *disagree* with where you ranked it comparatively, it was just...incredible writing and made the series BETTER, and it's a youtube show. That's all I really had to say, you guys are great, keep it up.
B maybe A for me... I don’t think anyone’s gonna argue that Lelouch isn’t one of the greatest protagonists in all of anime plus that ending And the reactions to the school festival definitely should push it up rank

They better put Mob in S. Easily one my top 5 of all time.
Putting Doctor Who in the B category and debating whether it should actually be in the tier below kind of broke my heart a bit - not gonna lie.
you and me both
i agree with B, although there are definitely some S tier episodes and story arcs, there are some low lows which drags it down a lot
Yeah same :(
Props to Eric and Aaron for staying true to their word, that it was one of the best shows they had ever watched, and putting Agents Of SHIELD in its rightful place.
I know you said you are going to make changes in the end.... cough cough CHERNOBYL!!!
@@Wolf6119 maybe it's because it is such a short show and they've watched so many different things since.

I found you guys from your Star Wars Celebration 2017 and I’ve been here ever since! I don’t watch a lot of the shows but I love your guys banter. Here’s to many more years of shows!
Hopefully these guys will react to black lagoon one day. One of a few anime of its kind. Really underrated and had a fantastic dub. Rick would love the themes and Aaron would finally get to meet another badass red head.
I really miss the 90's and 2000's adult anime shows. (adult meaning mature audience, not naughty)
3 shows I would kill for blind wave to watch black lagoon, panty and stocking with garter belt and Monster
Dont rush the discussion for each show to cramp up the remaining letters, take your time or do a part 3
First time I've watched an entire podcast and am looking forward to part 2. I think Breaking Bad is the best show on here. But I wanna give Black Sails a watch after listening to you guys
Season 1 is definitely the weakest but gets stronger as it marches on. Season 2 is a step above 1 and REALLY starts to get good about midseason. And Seasons 3 and 4 are just god tier. I love it.
@@judemiller This is exactly how I feel about Attack on Titan

Black sails is mediocre trash

Found your channel thanks to Calvin reacting to Game of Thrones and have watched from the UK since. Also everything Star Wars with you guys are brilliant too x
Yeah same, I found it at the beginning of Calvins GOT reactions, I also watched Ricks GOT reactions & then moved on to the Star Wars stuff. Preying TCW makes it in S tier & feel like Mando is a guaranteed S tier because of the reactions they had to them & Star Wars was part of the reason they made the channel...

Black Sails is one of the best TV writing ever🤤

Always love watching shows alongside you guys. Everytime I check out a new show I always double check to see if you guys have reacted to it so after I watch an episode I can see what you guys are feeling. Thanks for making a lot of series a lot more fun!

Recommendations for years!
But after Toph joins it is almost all amazing.
yeah F/Z has more high moments and is more self contained along with being easier to adapt compared to UBW anime which suffers from the whole needing the other routes formula, direction, leaning more towards style over substance etc.. i agree with it being (although its a "A" for me)
Great podcast and I’ve been dreaming this video where you all rank the shows you've watched. Waiting for part 2
Eric saying Code Geass was a D actually, legitimately broke my heart a little bit. I respect him so much, and hearing him say that about one of my favorite shows like actually took the wind out of me lol. Great discussions over all though!
what hurt me more is he changed his C into D just so it wouldn't end up in B
I mean tbf C or B is the correct tier for Code Geass. It is extremely flawed but has good ending. I would say B since I'm an anime fan but I can see a lot of people really disliking this show so C is fine too. I think MHA is rated a little too high though. Should be in B. I Hope they do more Romcom/Shoujou too
@@zub41r75 C is average tho, even with all its flaws it's at least a B (good). ye S is too much for mha, it's at best an A for me

Had to log my ass in just to say how shocked I am they put it so low.
I've rewatched that show a dozen times. Look at some of the garbage that's in the same tier, wow.
This would be my tier list for all the shows I've seen from the list!
S: Attack on Titian, Agent of Shield, Avatar the Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Dragon Ball(this me including Z and Super with this anime), Daredevil, Defenders, Code Geass
A: Cobra Kai, Arrow, DragonBallZ Abridged, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fate UBW, Fruit Basket, Breaking Bad
B: Agent Carter, Demon Slayer, Cowboy Bebop, Fate Zero
C: Doctor Who, Dexter, Death Note, Castlevania, Chuck, Black Lighting
E: Batwomen
Don't have a D or F category now as none of the show I've listed place in those categories for me.
They're not saying Code Geass is overrated at all as a matter of fact most of them are leaning towards A and B Eric was just being a little petty and lowered the score by honestly kind of a lot
y’all gotta do another one of these again
Eric echoed my thoughts exactly on Death Note regarding the character(s) guessing the exact right answer to progress the plot in a meaningful way - my only real gripe with the series.
well to be fair, both L and Light had really high IQ, L even show simtoms of autism.
Congratulations 🎉🎈🍾 guys! You are the best!
They ought to try Inside No. 9 if they're not that excited about Black Mirror.

Really hurt to see Eric slander Code Geass like that for me 😭😭
i mean, it has lots of fan service (specuially the first season) and has some episodes like the fesitval ones that just seem like filler
For me Death Note is a masterpiece of tension and character dynamics, but only the first 25 episodes. L and Light were both so crucial to my enjoyment, Neer couldn't replace L for me.
Yeah. First 25 eps are S tier. After that, probably B tier, so A is about right.
A bit saddening to see that Rick doesnt like Shirou as a MC in UBW, hopefully if he ever does come around to reading the VN he'll see how much more complex and depth he has compared to his anime counterpart as the anime suffers from lack of direction for the characters, leaning more towards style over substance, lack of monologues for Shirou, and having no Fate route to be built upon
F/Z at A is well deserved as it has alot of high moments, interesting dialogue, more self contained (easier to adapt and better director), and a banger OST
Maybe the movies can fix or make him understand him more.
You gotta look through the stories he does live and compare the mcs of those shows to Shirou and you would see that he has a certain type and shirou, despite essentially being the main inspiration for the type for most future stories, end up as such a typical character of the type
U guys must watch the DARK series in neflix
