What I never see in these stories is prop matching. Selecting a propeller pitch for each motor that (given differences in gearbox ratio) will give similar theoretical top speed for each motor. Any outboard will struggle if the prop is over pitched, and Yammy’s tend to be.
I agree with you. I've noticed in a couple of their videos that they have a stainless prop on the Etec and aluminum on the Yamaha too. This video is no exception.
Absolutely prop pitch and prop condition and has the prop every been tuned. I had a race prop tuner work his magic on my best prop. Just a small shop but all the offshore racers used him. It was a different boat with that tunes prop.
Since I'm based out of India, I've got the following 2 stroke options. 1. Yamaha Enduro - 40 HP, 2. Suzuki DT 40 WL, and 3. Tohatsu MX40 D3 alternatively the M40D2. looking for an unbiased feedback which one I should opt for.

Hi guys and thank you for your most informing video! Now I wonder about the noise levels. Which Engine is the least and most noisy, Yamaha, Etec or Suzuki? Thanx for your answer!
You could put identical props on all of them and it wouldnt work out. Different engines have different rpm ranges. They all run different gear ratios in their gear cases. Most of the four strokes have higher max rpms too.
I've been a Yamaha tech for 11 years, and i own a 60hp e-tec that i got really cheap through my job. I've seen problems on it that i've never seen on a Yamaha. Once, the engine started tilting out of the water while we were driving. (defective tilt switch on the cowling) and i had to reach down there to unplug it while drifting towards a reef. another day, the engine got stuck at around 1500rpm in rough water because the neutral switch was defective, and we started taking on water. then the lower unit filled up with seawater in a year because every single seal was leaking (the lower unit is unchanged from the 70's johnsons!). I've replaced an injector and my starter motor is going out. It's an unreliable piece of crap, and i can't wait until it dies so i can change it out. Also, because it is a two stroke, it is extremely weak until you get on plane. It does not like being below 3000rpm. at 2000rpm, doing 5,5knots, it smokes and smells like cancer if the wind is blowing from the rear. I do not like the thought of breathing in several litres of two stroke oil every year.
Just put a 40 Etec Evinrude on my 1390 Stabicraft. 10”short of 14foot. Got informed the bottom half gearbox and prop are all the same. From Evinrude 40 to 90hp. Definitely a big difference from the former 25Yamaha 4stroke. 4 people and divegears. The response and power is instant picks us all up and planes in no time. Especially for bar crossings
@@Jetryder223 I'm guessing a 15 pitch. At least that's what's on my 40 etec. Jumps on plane and runs 30-31 on GPS. That's on a 16 1/2 ft Alumacraft tiller.

@@BryantFarris they aren't the lightest. Gets really good fuel economy and is quick but with all the technology they are not the lightest. In the 40 and 50 hp, they're heavier than the yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki. The Mercury is about the same weight as the Etec.

what pitch props were you guys using for each motor?
Great reviews sir , straight to the point , the yank....Massachusetts.
Are the Evinrude E-Tecs available for 3rd world countries??

Suzuki is quietest motor if ever heard.
I'm assuming you have a Yamaha.
Exelent video!!!!
I have one cuestion...for a traker 17feet with a etec 40 hp, which model of propeller most use? 15 o 13 inch is ok?
From argentina!
did they all have the same props?....

Etec wins but Evinrude lost. RIP Evinrude
They are the same thing
What was the prop size on the evinrude etec 40?
40 etec owner here, they swing a 13-7/8 inch prop, much bigger than the other 40’s. Probabaly a 17 or 19 pitch in this instance

All have same prop size?
No, Yamaha outboards above about 25 hp don't come with props. You need to figure out what prop is best for your boat and style of boating.
Same for evinrude
At least the Yamaha won't leave you stranded 😂
Really helpful, thanks
Good job reviuws motor boat Thank you
No prop info and no Honda...
Evinrude so good they shutdown
Etc advert
Sure was
Evinrude etec a dead motor as of 2020 i heard
unfortunately thanks to covid. buy up the ones already built parts will be around to service. just no new
engine out of factory
