    As a civilian but Air Force brat, I'm glad to see the different drill teams adding in those cute little human touches. I love the precision and the obvious expertise! But dusting off someone's shoulder and giving a fist bump with flair, those just add a little more. Bravo!

      B G notice how they do it with such precision though? Drill is meant to instill discipline in day-to-day activities. Making it more applicable and not just muscle memory will increase effectiveness, not decrease it.

      Scottish farmer's son. In the mid 2000s was at the Edinburgh festival as it had the annual opening parade infront of the castle. Floats of all wonderul artists, shows and attractions, but militarys were represented too as we host the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I will never- forget the US Marines, it was maybe 4 of them walking bearing battle streamers with about 80ft distance separating them each way from the rest of the parade so they had silence. When they walked their heads didnt move up or down and they had this slow eeirie pace as an atmosphere came over the crowd, every one stopped clapping and talking. These men were demonstrating heartfelt respect for those that die doing what they do, while showing they are an indomitable force, all in one, and with unrelenting respect. No one had to say a word.

    By far one of my favorite performances just because of the creative ideas they had, not only did they represent the United States in a very well disciplined matter but they also kept the crowds on their feet and added those few little "comical moves" to keep the audience entertained.

    Please note these soldiers are members of 3 I.D. (The Old Guard). The Primary duty of the Old Guard is to provide the sentries at the Tomb of The Unknowns. They use M14 rifles here and at Arlington. They also provide honor guards for funerals at Arlington cemetery . They maintain the horses and caissons, and provide the Division Band if requested. Essentially, they are the ceremonial unit of the Army.

      Jeff T well true. Both very impressive but this seems to be more of a crowd pleaser. I know they couldn't care less but I got a certain feel their routine is made to show a bit more... Human. Marines are discipline all the way through. It's like they don't even notice there's anyone watching at all. Both are pretty incredible though.

      Perhaps. Each person's opinion is different. For me, it'd be more pleasing to see crisper techniques, organized formations, and stoic discipline in military drills as opposed to this "human" aspect. I mean, the whole point of military drill is to showcase professionalism and the technical aptitude of the military, not how "buddy-buddy" they can be.

    The USMC Silent Drill Platoon is all about precision and the seamless synchronization, but their moves aren't nearly as difficult as the Army Drill Team's. The Army's Team might be sliiightly less synchronized/seamless as the USMC SDP, but their moves are on another level, and the cool moments, like the hat tipping, flexing, fist bumping, are a nice touch. It's easy to forget that rifle spinning is actually FUN and it's nice to see the boys on the team enjoying the performance a little bit.

      Just practice like you play, run your drill team over and over. It will get boring but then everything becomes second nature. That is one less thing you'll have to worry about. We trained some JROTC guys and they did fine there is really no specific answer for performing in front of a live crowd or doing an actual ceremony you just have to do it. Some people can do it no problem and some people start shaking and just can't handle it. You either get used to it or you don't. Good luck to you in your future USAF is the way to go.

    The thing we all should remember is that all our (the USA) Military Drill Teams are using Military issue weapons (in the Army's case a bayonet tipped 1903 Springfield) that are VERY, VERY heavy. And they throw them around like plastic guns.

    • @BG-rx6ts
      @BG-rx6ts 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay don't get me wrong. But is it only me, or does the whole fist bump moment in the beginning dilute the professionalism of this? Still, this team is very impressive but I noticed a big difference between them, and the silent drill team of the USMC in regards to just overall professional appearance and maneuvers. What do you think

    • @elevenb6967
      @elevenb6967 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm curious......What's this "big difference" of which you speak?
      Not sure what YOU'RE watching - But I've seen both DT's and the differences are so minute, they're almost immeasurable! If said "big difference" is just a friggin FIST bump, then.......I mean......wow.

    • @whomagoose6897
      @whomagoose6897 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alden Bustard: All drill team presentations are for show. The USMC silent drill team performs the same precise manoeuvres every time, always the same. The US Army adds variation to make each performance interesting to the viewers. Notice all the flourishes at the end, or during, the presentations. Like wiping the brow of the hat or waving to the crowd. Like any kind of showbusiness you have to please the crowd. Wow the crowd!

    One may ask if this post is ment to scare the enemys of the USA. The term "United States Army," scares our enemys. The term, "United States Citizen," threatened the Japanise Empire to the point there was not even considered an invasion against our West Coast. The Japanese Empire realized that behind every tree was a USA citizen with a rifel.

    • @ruyaesu4449
      @ruyaesu4449 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The political make up of The USA may have changed, but the USA citizen still hides behind every tree. The citizenry of this country, legal or illegal," will take cover behind every rock & tree, & defend the independance of this country. Why? Cause the USA is still the bastion of independance. Some will say, "a counrty trying deport violators of Her boarders, shows no tolerance. Those willing to face that truth will also fight for their understanding of freedom. When attacked, all souls upon American soils will fight!! The last bastion of individual freedom. The great experiment shall prevail.

    Im in a strange position of this type of drill.
    I understand how much time, effort and discipline goes into something like this, but all the spinning rifles, throws and such keeps reminding me of the cheerleaders you see throwing that small stick around.
    I know someone is going to get upset with what i said but also some of the smaller things like the fist bump, or at 2:46 what the hell is that.
    The reason im in a strange position on this type of drill is im ex british army, and the few american soldiers i came across were some of the best soldiers i ever came across, highly disciplined, and quite frankly the best shooters. (I lost a bet on the fireing range)
    But then maybe because i love the sound of the boots hitting the floor all together, and perfectly timed marches is why i just cant get into this throwing rifles around.
    Question, is this type of drill the norm for the army or is it just this display team that dose this?
    Maximum respect for the discipline.

    • @MrSteve3236
      @MrSteve3236 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +GAHD music Yeah this is just something that the old guard does. The type of drill that most all units will take part in is drill and cadence, stuff like marching and sounding off cadence. Most units don't actually do it all that often. It is mainly something used while troops go through initial entry training to instill discipline.
      And thanks for your kind word for the army. I was in helmand for a tour and worked very closely with brits on a lot of missions and encountered some of the finest troops I have ever met. Really every other European Nato member had fine troops. Really proud to call them brothers in arms.

    Amazing. I can't believe how well they do it. Even better than UK changing of the guard and if you go to England do be sure to do what I did when I visited and thank the soldiers. I said a lot of things or some out of anger about England, but I didn't mean them. However, America is the superior force and the best in the world. No doubt about that to me.
