- Zeus shares some words of wisdom with Thor in this deleted scene from Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Tessa Thompson, and Taika Waititi. Thor: Love and Thunder is available on digital now, and will also be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 27.
The fact that Zeus admits he's not the perfect king of the gods is so damn refreshing to hear from him and yet they removed it and replaced it with whatever the hell we got
This scene is interesting since it explains how Thor was able to give thunder powers to all of those kids, since electricity is everywhere.

this version of Zeus also made him look very strong and reliable compared to weak final version of him.
At the same time they kept the horrendously irreverent side to him that was true to mythology. They missed out

@@crsbcn007 Well people keep saying that. Yes, he did horrible things in mythology, but he was also incredibly powerful, and a wise general. He defeated Cronus and freed all the other Gods, who then went on to defeat the Titans.
His final version isn't "weak". He's actually mythologically accurate.

This would have made so much more sense. All they had to do was make Hercules jealous of Zeus mentoring Thor to motivate him to pick a fight for the next movie.

Nope. It doesn't fit in the movie at all, especially since Thor believed he killed Zeus and Zeus has absolutely no interest in borrowing his powers/secret weapon to someone else.

The fact that this scene was replaced by that fight scene in the movie just boggles my mind. This explains why the thunderbolt was important to the plot -- it would actually take them to Gorr. In the movie, they're just like "Thunderbolt is strong so let us borrow it". Also, this movie desperately needed more quiet, dramatic scenes like this, rather than the overabundance of messy CGI fights that we got.
The whole movie was probably improvised without script/plot. Take that instance for example, Only pure can reach eternity zeus said.. Gorr ?

This scene had a heartfelt conversation and gave a lot of character to Zues, which is why Taika took it out

All directors hired by major studios will say that, yet that's absolutely not true
If that was the case then there would have been no screen tests, which are never done by the director but the studio that wants to adecuate the movie to a larger audience

This makes me wish Zeus was more like a mentor for Thor, no need to make it super serious, keep his personality like in the movie.

Now this scene should've never been deleted. This could've gave a reason why Hercules would want to fight Thor.

@@longebane well Odin and Zeus are pretty much the same in the comics though. Both are serious and stoic and both of them are friends in the comic. Could even say that they are brothers (not by blood). Comic Zeus was actually really nice to thor and he became another father to him after odins death.
@@longebane He can be both, its not hard to be Vapid and Vain, but still be knowledgeable. Especially when you are as old as he is, that personality can just be a front so people don't approach him the way Thor did.

It’s Taika Waititi, so this scene was likely cut because it wasn’t funny (or rather, it wasn’t trying to turn literally every line into a joke).

this scene is what we need in the movie. its feel sad and enlighting at the same time, give Thor some hope after he lost everyone, especially his father - Odin. Zeus as Thor's father figure will make soooo much interesting. wtf disney

This scene changes half the movie and the ending credit. It makes me wonder if there was a fight going on behind the scenes between the Studio and Director/ Writers. And it got so far that it was filmed and had effects added.

This is what's called 'post-viz,' they put stand-in CG into the already shot scene before they send the shot to a VFX house, so they know how they want it to look

In the deleted scene, zeus is more mature and wiser then the one they used

This would have made sense in the movie. It was weird that Thor suddenly knew how to use the Lightning Bolt.
According to mythology Zeus is known for being wise, fair, just, merciful and prudent this scene fits Zeus character so much better than what we got in the film
Zeus is anything BUT fair, just and merciful in Greek Mythology. If anything, the movie version is much closer to the mythological Zeus than a lot of versions. Though in all fairness, Zeus could be just and fair at times. Doesn't change the fact this scene is several galaxies better than the weakling we had.

Dude, gods are just aliens, and some of them took advantage of the fact that the weaker races look up to them for their powers, just like normal people. Watch the first Thor movie again. Odin literally says "We are not gods."
@@FinalStigma yeah but he was talking about norse gods. it appears at least some gods, namely egyptian and wakandan gods, are real, as they both have a unique afterlife. it also seems valhalla is real in the mcu so there is a norse afterlife even if the gods arent real gods.

More evidence for how poorly Love and Thunder was finalised. This scene with Zeus was going to go a long way in not letting us down.

Depends on how one defines pure. Purely what? Gorr started off purer than any of them. The sword twisted him in his grief towards darkness, but he remained pure in his focus, in his dedication. He was not corrupted by pleasures. He did not succumb to temptations.

Pure means being sexually abstinent, which Zeus was clearly not.

The movie Zeus attitude shoulda gone to Hercules, and Zeus be more like shown here. It would parallel the first Thor we saw, and Zeus ignoring the signs til his son goes too far so publicly (sound familiar). It would give herc a personally reason to hate Thor like the end credits, but now you aren't forced to have Zeus on his son's side per se. You can go either way, leave him out of it, etc.

0:58 this moment reminds me of a father showing his son how to cast a fishing pole or ride a bike. Zeus backing away has Thor begins to understand thunderbolt was like a father watching his son ride off on the bike or pulling back a fish for the first time. Just very sad that they didn't include this in the movie.

But I'm confused. While this scene answers how Thor understood how Thunderbolts work, the more intriguing question is how is Zeus chill with him after Thor attacked and humiliated him recently? And not just that, they got so close that Zeus shared a secret witn Thor which he didn't even tell any of his sons?
Im guessing a different outcome occured in their first meeting.
The Zeus in this version was probably going to be an ally of Thor, rather than an enemy, and they probably never fought.
This Zeus is better than a one note joke and this Thor feels like the old Thor from the first 2 movies… that scene with the hammer was too silly even for this film.
Like everyone else here says, we should've had this Zeus. Have him teach Thor to open his heart to explain how he was able to power the kids. And if they wanted to have the Hercules anti-hero story, they could've had Gorr kill Zeus and have Hercules believe it to be Thor.
Zeus should've visited Thor with his wound after the Omnipotence City scene and have a heart to heart about his flaws, the needs of the people and its consequences such as Gorr's attacks and Thor's attack on Zeus and finishing it off with the open your heart lesson. That way, Gorr killing Zeus would be really meaningful and Hercules could be somehow made to believe that Thor killed his father in Omnipotence City.

they basically shot themselves in the foot by making zeus seem incompetant. Zeus actually plays a bigger role in the comic books and seems like he's gonna be just a side character in future movies
This Zeus could be better since it could have even filled the space of Odin in Thor's life
