Toronto Subway Station Tour & Ride - St Clair to Summerhill [4K]

  • A 4K Toronto transit video that takes us from the TTC St Clair Station to Summerhill Station. The station tour starts off outside on St Clair Avenue and walks over to the St Clair Centre's Yonge Street entrance and into the station. I then walk through the station passing through the northbound subway platform, bus bays and streetcar platform before heading down to the southbound train platform. From there I board the train and ride down to Summerhill Station. This was recorded at just after 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2020. Considering the time of day things were much less busy than normal thanks to the Coronavirus / Covid-19.
St Clair Station is located in Midtown Toronto and connects Line 1 of the subway network to the St Clair Avenue West streetcar route.
This was filmed with a DJI Omso Pocket at 60 FPS.

I have this subtle memory that back when I was a baby waiting for the train on the southbound platform of St. Clair, one of those maintenance trains you see at Davisville yards zipped past through the station. I think it was one of those flatbed trains. At the time, I thought I was seeing things as you don't see them often. I don't know why I still remember it to this day as it's very random.
As for observing the video, there's nothing special to write home about, and I keep wondering why the tunnel between St. Clair and Summerhill is so spacious.

    • @JohnnyStrides
      @JohnnyStrides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You'll often see those pass through Davisville but they're quite rare elsewhere. It's funny the random things we remember from ages ago. Yeah, I wondered about that tunnel too at the end, which is why I went in for a closer look.
This was a requested video, and it was raining, and I live close by otherwise I would have recorded something else. Enough people have watched it to make producing more of these worth my while at least even if they're not always the most interesting.

Lived near Summerhill station in 1967 as a young kid from the UK for the summer. Wondered why we had to cross the road to go down into a 'subway' as those were the names for underground foot road crossings in the UK! Loved going on the trains and the now gone 50's trollybusses which accelerated really fast. Came back to UK at the end of '67 but did return for a holiday in '95. The blue light on the panel on the end of the platform at 11:12 was there in '67 (or a near identical one) as I always remembered seeing it and wondering what it was for. Presumably to show if the track power is on but I was only 5 back then.

I still remember the old, squeally and noisy red-coloured trains with the cheap vinyl cushion seats. I also remember that instead of the door open/close chime they had somebody blow a whistle from the train window, instead. I can barely remember old Eglinton station before it was renovated; it was kind of set up like Islington Station is with the seperate bus bays.

I was a bit surprised at the state of the stations in NYC... but despite its downsides that system is incredibly well built-out. Toronto was too busy catering to the car to build a proper network system back when it should have and now we're stuck with the half-assed system we have now. That's what happens when you let suburban voters into the fray...

    • @jameschampken770

Honestly It's hard to find a subway that is as dirty as NYC subway. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy NYC, but some of its subway stations are disgustingly dirty. I've been on Subways in Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Lille, Brussels, Barcelona & London. None were even close to how dirty some NYC stations are. Yes NYC is a massive subway system, but so is the London Underground, yet London Underderground is kept clean, stations look nice. Plus side to NYC though is the train runs 24/7.
Funny though out of all those subways, Toronto somewhat resembles NYC the most, not because of the dirtiness, but the way the stations are designed, it's got some similarities. Montreal system is actually really nice, some stations are beautifully designed. Toronto design is a bit, meh.

@@JohnnyStrides NYC subway is massive, but at some stations it's filthy, NYC has never been known to be the cleanest of cities though & the subway is pretty well known for being dirty. I mean the Mutant Ninja Turtles use to even live down there😂. Surprisingly today NYC subway is actually a big step up from how they use to look in the 70s & 80s when everything was covered in graffitti from head to toe, even more garbage on the floor, & the trains were breaking down all the time.

@Jonny, to be fair, our city was built in the American fashion in the postwar'50's and '60's while New York was laid out and built the way it was from the _prewar_ 1900's-1940's, so the TTC couldn't be faulted for not having subway lines everywhere like New York has when we didn't have the density to build a big subway network (at least our 'local' lines are our bus routes and streetcar lines, and we would've had Transit City if not for Rob Ford and his subwayitis.)

What's so horrible about it (relative to other north american cities it's probably the best run... although it is not as expansive as it should be).

@@JohnnyStrides I'm not comparing it to other cities in North America ... I'm just saying that Canada should have a better subway with the economy it has. It is a very old subway, not very modern, with very little space in the stations etc. even subway from south america are better🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't miss this dump. Smelly seats and crowded rush hour rides. Also got sucker punched by an idiot at Queen station who was yelling at me and calling me "Paki" for no reason. No security around and was early morning going to work.

Filthy , disgusting subway system ( go take a look at Athens and Copenhagen, you'll feel as if you live in a 3rd World city). Delays ,disruptions ,closure of lines all add to the most negative picture of the Toronto subway system.
