    Nice video! I am moving on from my '80's era Foley Belsaw sharpener/grinder. You finalized my choice. Great idea of the bench detach option. Thank You!

      It's a great device. I just used it again to sharpen up the blades for the start of the season in upstate NY!

    Very nice setup! I think you have the right idea of not taking too much off the blade till the notches are gone. And yea, I was cringing when I seen the Porsche next to the setup but seen your comment to the other guy about turning it away. 😂

    Unbelievable. I am a car enthusiast and could not help notice the hot sparks of the grinding are flying near that Porsche convertible. Not smart. Hot metal will burn into the paint and convertible top. Wow. Thank you for reviewing the All American Sharpener 5005. I hope the car is okay.

    • @beardedgarage
      @beardedgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Todd. The car is ok, trust me I turned the table 45 degrees to ensure sparks weren’t flying at the car.

      Thats what I was thinking. Clear coat holes.

    • @MattJones1829
      @MattJones1829 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought the same as well, that perhaps Porsche paint is impervious to everything including blazing hot metal flakes! That would have to be worse than rail dust damage when a car is transported out of the factory via train!

      Exactly what I was thinking watching this video. I have burned small pits into windshield once when grinding a weld under the hood of a truck. Never again.

    Ive been looking at these. A bit of sticker shock but Im sure it will make my mowing much easier and yard look cleaner.

    • @beardedgarage
      @beardedgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the same sticker shock, but if you’re sharpening blades regularly, it makes the job much easier. When I sharpen them I also properly inflate the tires and level the deck, and that will give you the cleanest look!

    How tight does the adapter pin fit in the hole? Is there any “slop” or too tight as you move the grinder back and forth?

      I got mine today and sharpened 2 sets of blades for my ExMark. It was a breeze to operate and the quality is top notch. I would highly recommend it. I tried free handing it for months. Using the All American Sharpener put my blades back at the right angle.

      The finest grit you can get away with, honestly. You don’t want to take too much off but you want them to be sharp, it’s a balancing act.

    Personally, I prefer hand filing my mower blades. Much less steel lost than with a grinder, and with a little practice, you get a nice, sharp blade.
    The real key is sharpening mower blades a lot more often than most people do, in my experience. I have a second blade so that I can remove a dull blade, replace it immediately with the sharp spare, and then sharpen the dull blade when convenient.
    To make that task easy, I have a tool kit with everything I need to remove and replace the blade. That includes a sandbag to hold the handle of the mower down, and a tool to immobilize the blade so that it can be removed.

    • @beardedgarage
      @beardedgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good advice! I’ve hand filed a bunch of times, and I have multiple sets of blades for each mower as well. The reason I like American sharpening system is because I can do a set of blades so quickly.
      I love the idea of sharpening more often, and I know I get a better now job when I do, I just never seem to get around to it.

    Good review but you are getting grinder dust on anything in the garage. Even if you point the grinder away it is getting on the paint, try some iron cleaner spray and it will show you.

    • @beardedgarage
      @beardedgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the reply. I roll the mounted table outside now when I sharpen blades to lessen the mess and keep the grinder dust at bay.
