I absolutely love Saturday mornings, coffee and Garage Gear review, what more can ya ask for? JB, your reviews are awesome brother. Whats weird is i put one of these in my Amazon cart on Tuesday. Ive been on the edge about this mainly because i only have my rider blades and pusher blades. Do you think ot would be a good investment for just 3 blades? One more question? What should a spark plug look like when you have a perfectly tuned trimmer or blower? Maybe you can make a video on a good looking plug and a poorly tuned trimmer/blower plug? Have a great weekend and week ahead my friend
Hey Gary! First off appreciate the positive feedback! Thanks for the kind words! I would recommend the sharpener! It saves me a bunch of time and trouble since it holds my grinder at the perfect angle everytime. A bunch of blades goes quick once you set your angles! As far as plugs go I clean mine usually once a season. A normal plug for me is usually a little dark or fouled. Not all gooped up or anything. Hope this makes sense. Have a good weekend bud!
Don’t worry John I practically live in that garage! lol! If the neighbors don’t see me in the garage they get concerned lol! Definitely worth checking out! Good to hear from you as always! Have a good weekend bud!
Never take more material off of the sharpened edge to balance the blade. Take material off of somewhere else on the heavy side like the backside of the blade.
Thanks for another great review and tutorial. I bought the All-American last spring and really wondered about the quality of the knock-offs. I made a 2x4 mount to clamp in my old Black & Decker workmate so its portable works great! I even put a vertical piece on ine end and mounted my Oregon Blade balancer to it. Also, I use a Dewalt cordless grinder and yes, the batteries get "in the way", but as long as you keep the battery above the arms when grinding, it's a non-issue

I was a little weary at first with this thing but grew to like it once I dialed in my angle. Nice sharp blades on everything! What’s the plan for the rest of the weekend my man?
Dang. Just clicked on your link to purchase and got the “currently unavailable.” Message? Did you break the internet, JB, with your recommendation? In any case, I need one of these and hope they are available soon.
No judgement here JB. I tried to get one of those knockoffs… twice. Both times the unit showed up either missing parts or it felt super flimsy. I ended up getting the All Americ. Based on your video, looks like you found a winner. Regardless of manufacturer, these jigs are a massive help. I used to dread that job… not anymore. I found 35 degrees matched my blade best. Great stuff!!
I have the $10.00 HF angle grinder mentioned and use coarse flap wheel to sharpen mine. You clamp the blades down and push the flap wheel over its edge. Very easy to hold at the same angle and it takes little time, I see no reason for the guide unless you sharpen very often or have many blades to sharpen. I sharpen 5 blades nut once a year. Used to use a bench grinder; and angle grinder is a better way.
Some say a bench grinder is best, others just use the angle grinder with a flapper disc.. now everyone has its own favourite but I Think I take a look at one of these sharpeners
Too funny! I literally got the Amazon model YESTERDAY but haven't set it up yet so the timing of your video is PERFECT! Thanks for the additional tips & tricks at the end. Much appreciated, nicely done and thanks for this!
The All- American does have an adapter required to do one of the Honda dual blades properly. And it needs to be mounted differently depending in the blade generation. In my opinion, it makes huge difference. I did a couple of very dinged-up sets for a neighbor and his son which they were going to toss as a training for myself. They came out neatly perfect and they now use the blades again
Great video! Do you recommend spraying a layer of paint on the newly sharpened blades for storage? I have 4 sets of blades and obviously can't use them all at once.
@@dankramer7142 hey Dan! Paint usually comes right off when you start mowing with them. I would just coat them in wd40 really quick and that will work fine for storage
Any issues with the bolt on the middle pivot backing out every you make a few passes? Tighten it to much and it won’t pivot, just tight enough to pivot and mine ends up walking out.
Let’s not forget once you own one of these you’ll be the blade sharpening expert in your neighborhood. Charge $5 a blade to your neighbors and you’ll have it paid off in no time.
