Everyone shitting on the Bayliner, please post pictures and proof of ownership of your boat! Nothing wrong with these boats and I bet it performs amazing.
Decades ago, we started out with an '86 Bayliner 1950 Capri with a Force 125. Honestly, it was a decent boat for what we paid and the engine was easy to work on, if a bit crude. It was a wet ride, but the hull form handled the chop on Tampa Bay surprisingly well. The biggest mechanical expense in the three years we had it was when the trim pump went tits up. I can't remember the cost, but after we fixed it, we got rid of the boat. A slew of Wellcraft, Donzi, Bertram and Boston Whaler boats came next before we finally landed on what we have now. My personal take is that Bayliners are fine if you're sticking to inland waterways or calm days on the outside within sight of shore. Otherwise... fully cored hulls, questionable layup schedules, low quality soft goods, corners cut on electrical and deck hardware, and an overall lower attention to detail on the fit and finish do indeed justify some of the shit they get. They're price-point boats and there's no getting around that, but to their credit- they were dirt cheap back in the '80's, and helped a TON of people get out on the water that otherwise couldn't afford to do so... us included. As for what we have now... well... YT comments don't allow for attaching pictures, and I don't feel the need for validation to the point of making you a video, but let's leave it like this: one of our props cost more than what that Bayliner boat/engine/trailer combo did way back when, if you don't account for inflation. Whether you believe me or not means absolutely nothing to me, so feel free to call me a liar if it makes you feel better. As long as you're out on the water having fun, that's all that matters. Hell, I'll even give a thumbs up to someone in a Carver. :)
toss your cutlass bearings into the freezer in your break room while you are removing the old ones. once they are out you can tap those little guys in with ease.
Okay I'm sold. I was looking at this because i just purchased the same year 3870 and it has the original Mitsubishi/Chrystler. You sold me on 26kts at 4100rpm. What really impressed me was 4.6l at 2500rpm. How was the stability with it being 2000# lighter in the stern? And what did you have to do, if anything, to correct it?
6by yanmars... its a BMW block and stinks of European design. I'm not a fan of belt driven water pumps, especially on these because there is NO adjustment. Its an elastic belt that you have to spin the pulley to get on. Never seen one fail though.
250 hours plus the engines and various other components...I imagine that it is a jewel now

South West Florida Aerial Have to keep that boat a long time to recover that expense. Tho the increased reliability can be a valuable asset.
