Imagine if you had go down there only to find human skeletons and you suddenly find out that the landowner is a serial killer and had trapped you as well with those cute snakes ggwp.
You know.... it's funny. I used to do stuff like this all the time when I was a kid. Nothing in the world would have kept me out of that well. Unfortunately we grow up, priorities change, and we become afraid. injuries could lead to time off of work, or death, so we take less chances. Thank you for bringing us on your little adventure, no matter how small. :)
Awesome find. I love snakes. The first one was an eastern rat snake and there was a younger one as well with different pattern. The rest were some type of garter snake. All of them are harmless and they were just hibernating or overwintering together. I wish I knew of a place like that near me. I'm glad you didn't kill them like some people might.
Well said, FriskySquid. Snakes are amazing creatures. It's just people have an instinctual fear of them. I was lucky to be allowed to hold a baby boa at a pet store once. This thing was tiny and so adorable. There was a big, tough looking guy checking out right next to me when he saw the little guy. I swear he jumped three feet in the air before he gained his composure. They really are beautiful animals. I wish more people would give them a chance to show their charms.
That poor Massey Ferguson tractor sitting there not getting any love. Old tractors need love too! Neat little well! Its always fun exploring old stuff like that. Thank you for sharing!
The locust timbers were too cool! the only reason they lasted two hundred years. The old timers knew what wood served the best for each purpose. what a great Discovery. thanks for bringing it to us Chigg's.
Your video reminded me of the time I was digging out an old stage stop well on my families property in the mother lode area in California. My grandfather filled the well in with granite blocks that used to be the corral walls for the stage station that was built in 1851. I got down about 20 ft. and started to break up a big granite block and stirred up every garter snake within 10 miles around that were hibernating under the rock. All of a sudden I was neck deep in snakes ! Somehow I got out of that well and wasn't too terribly traumatized other than smelling worse than being sprayed by a skunk for a month. But, needless to say, I never did finish digging out that well !
Beau, you would make a heck of a good adventure buddy! By the way, none of those snakes were poisonous. That one side must have acted like a drain otherwise the hole should have been full of water.

Lots of people have died from poisonous fumes/gases in wells like this. Just a heads up. Maybe invest in a multi meter gas detector to lower in first before yourself.
