For everyone who has already purchased V1 of my template, it's a free upgrade. Just go back to your original email and download the updated version on the same link!

      Amazing.
Thanks for that . If you can do the same but for atmos that would be amazing

@@PascalPayantfilms I could put a Dolby Atmos template together but it would be untested as I haven't worked on Davinci Resolve Fairlight in Dolby Atmos for a film as yet. What configuration of Dolby Atmos are you working in?

@@benniknop I think it would be great cause it could be future proof. I’m sure the configuration is not that different from what you have done before. I ve tried before but went back to your template of 5.1 but I know fairliguts works for atmos . I tried before 7.1.4 and it was working well. But yeah if you want to try and you redo a 2.0 later it’s fine ;)

Fantastic video. I am a DaVinci user and I learned a lot watching through this.

Will do! I'm in the process of producing an extensive Audio Post Production course for Davinci Resolve Fairlight. Is that something you'd be interested in? If so, comment below and signing up to my mailing list on my website noisypost.com.au

Great video and template Benni! Have bought it now and will test it on my DVR 18.6 test system to make it downward compatible with my main DVR 17.4.6 system.
    1) So you do only upmix music tracks but not e.g. stereo atmo?
    2) As you also got a 5.1 atmo track, but where do you downmix that for your stereo mix? Are then just using L+R?
    3) Where is your x-curve set up or aren't you using one for the cinema mix?
    4) Wanted to address you shouldn't use 5.1 film setup in Resolve because everything is now L R C LFE Ls RS and that could lead to some issues down the production chain but you already brought this up in your final side notes 🙂
    5) I am also using Waves UM226 for upmixing but found you have to be very careful which of its several algorithms (1-8) you choose as some of them can heavily alter the result not for the good.
    6) Halo Upmix does already work in Fairlight - do you have any experience with that and would you still prefer Penteo over that one?
    7) Fairlight still has only very limited side-chaining and no side-chain can go into VST plugins - it would be so great to use some side-chain driven dynamic EQ with heavy SFX and music.
    8) Have you tested Ambisonics as an upmixing tool? I played around with AudioBrewers AB tools and got some great results including upmixing mono and stereo ambience sounds. Unfortunately those plugins do behave a bit unstable in Fairlight (while they work flawlessly in Reaper)
    9) Do you work with iZotope plugins in Fairlight? Several of those plugins UI seem to quickly hog the GPU at 100% and make everything unresponsive (even when doing nothing). Which is a pitty as they can be so useful.

Well done, thanks for sharing. is there any reason you don't set up the mx track routing to mx upmix then to 5.1mx stem from getgo? We can always turn the plugin on & off if we want to downmix to 2.0 for TV.

I mostly mix my score stems without up mixing everything. I pan them around and apply other tricks to up mix. You can change that for yourself and then make it a preset.

@@benniknopThanks. Also I noticed you created a dedicated FX LFE track, but not for the other group of family, any reason?

What tracks do you put the music on?

How do I assign LFE channel. I was able to create a bus designated for LFE with low pass filter and maxxbass from waves on it. But it’s just acting like a stereo signal. I have the bus set as a 5.1.

Is there a way to combine 2 mono tracks onto a stereo track? For instance some AAFs have music as multimono files but I want them on one stereo track. I'm familiar with linking mono tracks in fairlight but would prefer to just place them on a single stereo track.

    • @benniknop
      @benniknop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Linking is the way to do it. It’s the exact same concept. You now have a stereo track you can edit, pan and add plugins to. What else do you need?
