- Wish there was a video like this before I taught myself to wing foil. Stuffing my foil through the sail was a regular occurrence to the point the sail repair guy stopped answering my calls; consequently, I reverted to becoming a sail repair tape master. Learn from my mistakes.

Thanks for the tips. How about the board leash? What is your preference? Still straight or would coiled be ok?
I prefer the Dynema leash attached to my waist harness with a quick release. The coiled are heavy, creates lots of drag in the water and get tangled. The standard around the ankle are good but less drag in the water if you move it higher to your waist. The Dynema are the strongest and lightest, plus you can tie a loop if you want to shorten it up a bit. The quick release for safety and convenience.
Cliff warned me that the wing was "emotionally scarred"

GoFoil 160NL front wing, 75L Slingshot board and 4.2m F-One kite
@@aquaman1 although they say your weight+40L for the beginners, I feel like small boards are much easier to control. What do you think?

@@gingersoul6 I've heard your weight in KG plus 30. smaller is easier to control but getting started is a lot more difficult. This is why guys are transitioning to smaller boards after they get they learn the skills. You can not learn in a small board. If you live somewhere with lots of wind you can reduce the size a bit for learning but starting with too small board isn't going to work. I still use my 115L board for light wind days.
Greg, looks like the wing you rescued was from my buddy Cliff. Cliff then sold the wing to my other buddy Dan…. Such a small world.
I was taking a big risk trying to drag it and my wing back to shore through 4-5 foot shorebreak. I was thinking I may destroy my wing trying to save this guys wing. Then I see a guy running down the shore who was obviously trying to retieve it. I tried to signal him to run down wind so I could release the kite but he didn't go. So I decided to let it go anyway. I expected to see the guy run down the beach to save it from bombing the shore but he was walking, not running. At that moment I was dismayed that I was risking my own gear and this guy doesn't have the urgency to chase the kite. Who was it and how was the kite after it hit the shoreline?
@@aquaman1 That is quite the story and def a risky move from your part trying to come to shore with 2 wings, sound quite difficult not to damage the gear. I will ask Dan for more details, I think he will get the wing delived this week.
I bombed downwind trying to catch it. It would pin to the water then flip a few times like a tumble weed. My first attempt was a fail. The second attempt nailed it. Kind of surprised myself that I nabbed it. Had I failed that second time it would have itvthe shoreline and probably fly over the trees. I'd like to hear how it got loose and if it survived. I know those Fone leash look like they are made for kids. Seems the leash is an afterthought with these wing manufacturers
@@aquaman1 I will try to get more details from Dan. Yes, the F1 leash is def way to small specially when wearing a thick wetsuit and gloves. Also the Velcro seems specially week. The double up idea is def what is needed for max safety. I will try to jury rig something on my F1 wings
