Thanks for posting this video. I haven't had this happen yet, but my 9mm cases are bouncing from dropping too far. I've installed a side guide, but it needs more work. I want the case to just be placed into position. If you have ideas please let me know.
That's a good fix, and I've done the same thing to help pistol cases from tipping, but the primary issue here appears to me to be use of the large pistol case feeder plate vs. the small pistol plate. Tipped cases will still happen as the unit is moving due to the press being used, but it shouldn't happen every single case.
Yes, The 9mm cases are light. They drop, then bounce a little. It's like the need a break in the drop to slow them down. It would be nice it the tube slide up for a second to place the case and leave it setting still. I was tinking of a simple solution, like some shrink tube to fit over the case drop tube and necked down to break the fall and put the case in the right place a little more deliberatley.
Hi there. Is that a plastic lid then - it's not clear to see? I don't get jams but I do get cases going down mouth first. Does this cure that too? Thanks
I have the same Hornady press with the auto case feeder. 9mm is especially problematic. My case feeder drops cases out of the drop tube at any angle causing them to fall into the processed case box or behind the shell plate so when the ram goes up it smashes the case sideways into the decapping pin and bends or breaks it. This is because the small drop tube provided is way too big to hold 9mm so they drop out straight. The v block is designed to tip the case over as it is pushed towards the shell plate. The v block regularly tips the case and the edge of the rim catches as it tries to cross the retention spring. The hopper jams up all the time. I spend more time unjamming the pile of crap hopper than what it takes to manually feed the cases. I noticed you selectively cut out parts of the video. It is obvious to me you edited the malfunctions of the case drop tube, the malfunctions of the v block, and the jamming up of the case feeder hopper.
Hey buddy I know this is old but the case pivot is probably flexing. It’s the part that bolts to the upright support holding the case hopper. Hornady has a fix for that it’s a clamp and it’s free call Hornady tech support
I'm guessing somebody didn't read the manual? Move the metal tab over to the right, that's what it's for. Now you can use your library card for something else. :)
I have my metal plate completely closed for 9mm (to try to keep them from being inserted upside down) and still have the cases get sideways and clog up the top of the tube. I'm going to try this to see if it helps.
Wow, Somebody doesnt understand how to discuss a different point of view without being a dick! I tried the full range of adjustment on the metal plate (which the manual says should be fully open for pistol rounds) and still had tipped or mouth down cases. Used an index card to implement the solution in this video and presto! Problem solved.
Very clever, simple fix. Well done.
Thanks 👍
Slide the metal plate to the right for pistol and open it up for rifle
Sweet, Keeping it simple..... ! Nicely Done Sir !
Love it when a plan comes together :)
Awesome!!! Easy fix. Thanks for the tip. ;)
Hornady should be the ones fixing their crap.
All you need to do was loosen plate and readjust it.
Yeah the metal plate on the left side can be slid over to accomplish this. That’s why it’s there.
thanks for this idea!

Hornady case feeders are hit and miss. Some work, some don't...
Brilliant!

Are you talking about when the case drops down to the sub-plate, the case bounces?
I will have to remember that when I buy mine.

Plastic lid? Never had an upside case happen yet since this video.

Someone failed to read instructions, no fix needed.
Adjust that plate up top
Tired of tuning case feeder when switching calibers. I just remove the card when doing rifle, so much faster. Thanks for watching.

Don't be rude. The metal tab is for rifle cases, pistol cases are too small.
+Rc RC Seldom right and wrong again. It works fine with my 9mm and 45acp.

Nah, I just don't like adjusting things takes up too much time. This IS much faster.
