In my line of work I met Chrissy twice. She was briefed on who the crew was for the Divinyls gigs so knew me by name although we hadn't met yet. That alone left an impression on me but she was also charming, considerate, polite and very accommodating to my needs and others around us. The second time we met, she came bolting up to me from behind, yelled my name and hugged me! It was over 2 years between meetings and she remembered me... We chatted before and after the shows and I have never met a woman quite like her. It was like my life changed after each meeting. I bawled my eyes out when she died.
A couple of good mates had the good fortune to get seated with Chrissy at an industry night, they spoke so highly of her and how cool and genuine she was. Class act👌
A very bright woman - and so many people never gave her credit for it. Such a gentle soul, in total contrast to her musical and stage persona. But, she was also impenetrable. A relentless tornado. Chrissy OWNED the stage, and every song she ever performed. Australia's reigning female powerhouse of rock. So many of my best childhood and teen memories... She will NEVER be emulated.
Chrissy was always real and intense, even in interviews. It was amazing to hear her talk about alcoholism and being a million dollars in debt, both of which she turned around through her own personal strength. I love that her mother, Mary, and her cousin, Patricia Amphlett (Little Pattie) were present and are so supportive and proud of her. I saw Divinyls many times and was always blown away by the intensity of their performances. I always thought that the secret to Chrissy was that she lived every song, becoming the character that her songs were about. I don't know another rock singer who did that as well as her. She was confronting and edgy but at the heart of it all, there was an artful intelligence. And over it all was her amazing voice which she could twist and bend like no one else. Intense and powerful performer, certainly one of the best frontpersons ever.
What an awesome lady! I have admired Chrissy as a performer forever. Bought Divinyls albums, seen her perform in Melbourne pubs, she was a whirlwind. I have only now seen this interview for the first time in 2023. I love her honesty. Awesome.
Chrissy, best female rock artist of all time. She'll always be my favorite with no other coming close. Thanks to every divinyl's from this corner of south america.
I was terrified of her when I saw her on Countdown. I realise how brave and original she was - out there in the beer barns as one of the only female lead singers at the time beating the boys at their own game. Trail blazer
I had a tear in the eye watching this again, after so many years. I saw her on stage both in her Divinyls persona and as Judy Garland. One of my favourite performers of all. Love you, miss you Chrissy. xxx
Me too. Every time I see Chrissy perform or be interviewed I get emotional. Not sure why but maybe because she juxtaposes her vulnerability with her confident, almost aggressive stage persona. She was one in a million and we miss you Chrissy
Chrissy was a wonderful performer and she was taken way too early, sorely missed I loved her work and thank the interwebs for making it possible to view her work, making her immemorial, rest in peace Chrissy I miss you enormously.
Chrissy was a powerful, selfless, and intelligent Angel 🌹🕊💘 Thank you kindly for sharing this amazing interview by Andrew Denton disclosing Chrissy's honest, beautiful soul.. I remember being back stage with Chrissy at the Enmore Theatre admiring her selfless demeanour! It was there that I got to see beyond the stage presence into her casual aura. Her kind spiritual words and humour that touched myself with her beautiful soul. This very candid interview letting the world see her fragility together with her deep inner strength should be replayed on mainstream for those who judged her.. There aren't enough words in the dictionary to describe her as truly was so unique and sadly judged and misunderstood! I agreed with her and thought, Love 🥰was Science Fiction.😄 Chrissy🌹 remains 💘the most honest, selfless, gorgeous, talented, intelligent extremely sensuous girl friend forever💥 tatooed in our memory..Her blazing after glow💫 shines forever in our hearts.💘💝💖 Ange
I miss Andrew Denton on TV, his interviewing style is so warm. Chrissy was an absolute dynamo, such a great figure for women in rock and life in general. Great smile!!
She was a fantastic performer and great Aussie icon. And her mum, so down to earth, like so many Aussie mums. I think she will always be remembered, if only for that special song. ❤
Yes and Vince love Grove their manager was Bon scotts band mate from the valentines..I think the school girl uniform idea came from you know where ..wink wink
Wow, that was amazing, the depth of the interview and the performance at the end. Denton was elite at interviews with being able to extract the real person. Thank god he did with Chrissy before she was gone. Chrissy is an absolute icon of the rock world, and has paved the rock world for a whole generation of artists.
I love her singing the acoustic version of I touch myself at the end. Beautiful. Is it just me, or does she occasionally resemble Judy Garland? What a shame we lost her so early. 💕😢
Lost count of how many times I saw the Divinyls live even going back to before Monkey Grip was released. Australia had so many great bands from Chisel, AC/DC, Angels to the Easybeats but the Divinyls where imho right in the mix for being one of the best of the original rock bands in the country. At the end of every concert it took hours to come down from being pumped up by Chrissy's energetic performance, it was just full bore right up to the curtain call encores. So sad we have lost her, but she remains in spirit with the music she helped create and her demons and fobiles are what made her the character her fans loved. RIP Chrissy.
This was a wonderful interview of Chrissie, especially with her mother their and cousin Patti. It’s even better because she isn’t with us anymore. I think this maybe the only intimate interview with her. This show with Andrew Denton was a wonderful show at the time.
Two misjudged souls, on the outer one a comedian, one a licentious rock star, but when these two came together, they both recognized and were touched by the latent intelligence sensitivity, and depth that each possessed. This interview represented the palpable connection between two seminal artists at a time when people were not subjected to dull scripts or a woke culture where everybody has a voice that is often muted for fear of being offensive or erased.
What a wonderful interview, both subject and interviewer. I know The Divinyls for their big hit, but didn’t know anything else about Chrissy, me being Canadian. I love learning about International artists:)
At last I have been trying to find this interview for over a decade. I first watched it in 2009 but had disappeared from the platform since then, by the end of 2010 it was no longer any place to be found now I can delight myself with it again.
i met chrissy in the toilet at her show in salisbury s.a in the 80s .. she was real an sexy and made her own clothes back then .. like most of us did.. r.i.p chrissy x
Was a huge fan for decades, then getting a taxi from Perth Airport into the City, she asked where I was going (had 3 guitars with me) and said "Let's share a Cab" - couldn't believe it, traffic along Orrong Road a nightmare, by the time we got to the Hotel (where I to was also staying) so we got our bags to our rooms and caught up for a few drinks. She was truly so amazing, understatement to say she was stunningly beautiful, like "drop dead" - many in the bar asking her for autographs and thinking I was her new guy, had to tell them we had just met, thankfully the autograph hunters soon let us alone. Stayed up until after midnight, just chatting and drinking. What a truly genuine lovely girl. Never saw her again yet kept in touch via email in later years. She was unique, guess I fell in love in her that night despite being married, she was just so charming, entertaining, hilarious and lovely! Was heartbroken when getting the news of Chrissie's passing. An Aussie Legend, but also a UK Legend!!
To this day Chrissy is the best frontwoman of a rock band. Besides the good Divynyls songs, the audience appreciated a lot of acting on stage from Chrissy. It is part to give 100% and a good show.
What an incredible interview. What an icon!!!! She really was the first in australia. The first female rockstar, warts & all. I think the first Divinyls song I heard as a kid was "science fiction" and I was hooked instantly.

Came across this and searched for my Divinyls album and found it. Saw them in early 80’s. She was amazing, she grabbed her red lipstick and smeared her face. Loved her performance.
❤❤❤ rock chick ! We were your fans ! Saw Chrissy at Ballina pub 99 ! Had to go and see her at least once , great night !! Saw Jesus Christ super star early 70s
Notice how she said when she flies into Sydney "There's no people." Unfortunately this has changed now, and everywhere we go in Australian capital cities there are people everywhere. Our country has been destroyed by mass immigration over the past two decades since this was filmed.
At the end of this video I had to pause it and sit for a few minutes and think of what to say. Now that I've stopped crying, I think back at what my original reaction was. I was walking through our local shopping mall with my Wife and 2 young sons. As we walked passed our music shop (Sam Goody's) they were playing that song on their loud speakers. We were going to go in there, but I stopped my family and told them to keep walking. I went in and complained to them about having it up so loud, that I thought that it was not appropriate for family listening. In my mind I had heard songs that Covered every subject matter that you could imagine.....until that one. Well my wife died in 2010 and my boys are all married. I was so intent on saying that this song was so beautiful, but I wish there were different words to it. I never was that religious. But now I am ashamed after hearing her sing it at the end of this show. What a beautiful Love song. God Bless Chrissy's family.
amazing performance at the end, what a tripped out person, how could she sing like that? It doesnt sound like her speaking voice, such a shame she's not with us anymore.

Chrissy is a legend, trailblazer. Andrew Denton - if only we had interviewers of his calibre on tv today.
True. Andrew is a world class interviewer, up there with the best in the world.
