We have a beautiful little boy in our family because his brave teenage mom carried him to term and my daughter and her husband were able to adopt him. I love this little boy, he is so sweet, so funny and so talented. I am so proud of him and so very grateful to his brave birth mother.

I was born and raised barely as a Catholic, most of the time not going to church while my parents and family fought in the home for selfish reasons. I don't really recognize Catholicism in my heart anymore as a denomination of choice, but have continued to attend Catholic Church for respect of my wife, as she has gone to Catholic school and has shown her Faith within the realm of Catholicism. I believe that one must put their spiritual beliefs before any political leanings, regardless of consequences. I don't know how Catholics in politics, primarily in within the Democrat Party, can continue to agree on the abortion policies of our day. It's a choice one must make, especially for one in public life. The Catholic Church should also look really hard at excluding Joe BIDEN, as he considers himself a devout Catholic and has publicly made political statements in favor of a woman's right to choose abortions well into the late stages of a pregnancy. God help us as a nation. How can Catholics and others in the younger generation have any respect for Catholic seniors, like BIDEN and Pelosi, who continue to state their support for a woman's choice on pregnancy, than God's creation of a living human being?

I am Protestant and have enjoyed this discussion on an issue that draws so much emotion. The education system has played a role in promoting it as a birth control option. I had a struggle with infertility because of hormonal imbalance. Adoption at the time was a 5 - 10 year wait. So abortion is a wound to those who can not conceive.
Thank God for this Archbishop and I pray there will be many in the Catholic leadership who will follow his example and support him. There are many other "Catholic" politicians, priests, and laity who need to take a good deep look at this matter and inform their consciences to the horror of abortion and how it has to be stopped immediately. Abortion has been around as long as sex. Jesus never mentioned it, but many means of abortion existed in his society. If parts of the US make safe therapeutic abortions unavailable, those ancient means will return, and many young women could die, as they did prior to the safe modern procedures of today. Women do not get abortions because they have nothing else to do that day. It is a deeply personal and complex decision for them, and if they need your opinion, I’m certain they will ask you. It is not a simple “black and white” issue and if you learn more about it, you will see that the Church is once again, on the wrong side. Interesting fact: the Third Reich was the first government in the 20th century to ban abortions, and was one of the reasons the Catholic Church backed the Nazis, including the very first recognition of the Nazi regime by another government coming from the Vatican City. As an American and a Catholic, I am torn over this. On one hand I am ecstatic on a secular level, but deeply saddened that she is in jeopardy of damning her soul. It was an act of the secular to force government paid abortions on many citizens who do not believe in abortion. That is not separation of church and state.
I'm a grandmother. I was a child when the SCOTUS decision was announced. I remember where I was when I heard the news. Sadly, many of the adult women who were responsible for guiding me in morals expressed the belief that God would prefer for women to be easily rid of unwanted babies in the womb. Yet over the years, many women who took that way out of their difficulty have confided their pain and suffering to me. It's a horrible thing to live with, worse than losing a child to illness or accident. Maybe there are women who truly believe they did the right thing, but I've yet to meet one who doesn't regret the act in some way, whether it be the woman who was rendered permanently sterile, or the woman whose boyfriend was going to lose his scholarship if he took responsibility for paternity before he reached the age of 21 (requirement of the scholarship). The latter woman terminated two pregnancies before her boyfriend was 21, then they married and have 8 children. Thanks be to God for those 8 children, but whenever anyone crudely comments on her large family, beginning when she had 5 living children, she has always added 2 to the number she wished she was nurturing. For example, if someone said, "You have 6 kids? Didn't you know when to stop?," she would retort, "I'd have 8 if I could," and now she says, "I'd have 10 if I could." She pretends she made the right choice because her husband is paid big money for his qualifications, but she never forgets the cost she paid to have that wealth.

I was born and raised barely as a Catholic, most of the time not going to church while my parents and family fought in the home for selfish reasons. I don't really recognize Catholicism in my heart anymore as a denomination of choice, but have continued to attend Catholic Church for respect of my wife, as she has gone to Catholic school and has shown her Faith within the realm of Catholicism. I believe that one must put their spiritual beliefs before any political leanings, regardless of consequences. I don't know how Catholics in politics, primarily in within the Democrat Party, can continue to agree on the abortion policies of our day. It's a choice one must make, especially for one in public life. The Catholic Church should also look really hard at excluding Joe BIDEN, as he considers himself a devout Catholic and has publicly made political statements in favor of a woman's right to choose abortions well into the late stages of a pregnancy. God help us as a nation. How can Catholics and others in the younger generation have any respect for Catholic seniors, like BIDEN and Pelosi, who continue to state their support for a woman's choice on pregnancy, than God's creation of a living human being?

She was not Catholic...She told me she was considering an abortion...I said something like, God will take care of you and you may never have the chance again....She loved the Blessed Mother and prayed to her...but was so confused by the man leaving and being afraid....She had her babies... And God did take care of her...she had baby things to almost the ceiling of her apartment...She had three beautiful identical triplet girls... .I used to cut their hair (I was a hair dresser)...When I got finished cutting one of the little girls hair, I could not tell them apart except by the hair cut...

The education system has played a role in promoting it as a birth control option.
I had a struggle with infertility because of hormonal imbalance. Adoption at the time was a 5 - 10 year wait.
So abortion is a wound to those who can not conceive.
I have been infertile like you for the same reason, and can so relate to your words: "Abortion is a wound to those who cannot conceive."
Thank God for this Archbishop and I pray there will be many in the Catholic leadership who will follow his example and support him. Abortion has been around as long as sex. Jesus never mentioned it, but many means of abortion existed in his society. If parts of the US make safe therapeutic abortions unavailable, those ancient means will return, and many young women could die, as they did prior to the safe modern procedures of today. Women do not get abortions because they have nothing else to do that day. It is a deeply personal and complex decision for them, and if they need your opinion, I’m certain they will ask you. It is not a simple “black and white” issue and if you learn more about it, you will see that the Church is once again, on the wrong side. Interesting fact: the Third Reich was the first government in the 20th century to ban abortions, and was one of the reasons the Catholic Church backed the Nazis, including the very first recognition of the Nazi regime by another government coming from the Vatican City. It is likely the Nazis would have never maintained their power without the support of German Catholics. God bless and good night.

As an American and a Catholic, I am torn over this. On one hand I am ecstatic on a secular level, but deeply saddened that she is in jeopardy of damning her soul. This is not something that we should be thanking the Archbishop for doing, it must have been a very long and serious decision. I for one will pray that she finds her way back into her faith.

It may not have been the Archbishop’s timing (regarding Dobbs) - but it is GOD’S Timing.
I'm a grandmother. I was a child when the SCOTUS decision was announced. I remember where I was when I heard the news. Sadly, many of the adult women who were responsible for guiding me in morals expressed the belief that God would prefer for women to be easily rid of unwanted babies in the womb. Yet over the years, many women who took that way out of their difficulty have confided their pain and suffering to me. It's a horrible thing to live with, worse than losing a child to illness or accident. Maybe there are women who truly believe they did the right thing, but I've yet to meet one who doesn't regret the act in some way, whether it be the woman who was rendered permanently sterile, or the woman whose boyfriend was going to lose his scholarship if he took responsibility for paternity before he reached the age of 21 (requirement of the scholarship). The latter woman terminated two pregnancies before her boyfriend was 21, then they married and have 8 children. Thanks be to God for those 8 children, but whenever anyone crudely comments on her large family, beginning when she had 5 living children, she has always added 2 to the number she wished she was nurturing. For example, if someone said, "You have 6 kids? Didn't you know when to stop?," she would retort, "I'd have 8 if I could," and now she says, "I'd have 10 if I could." She pretends she made the right choice because her husband is paid big money for his qualifications, but she never forgets the cost she paid to have that wealth.
