Good u did not have jumper cable as we got to know its necessary. One question, my 2008 petrol car battery exhausts if I don't drive it for a period of time..so if i start the engine for few mins in a week will it help for keeping the battery charged?

Just remove the cables connected to battery +ve and -ve terminal before going on vacation. Again connect once you are back. That will stop discharging.

You should use a better copper wire and it should not that long that you used before....
Thin wire was not able to transfer adequate current to Honda City. You could have used multiple cables for proper current.
