A ship that truly lived up to its name. She might be laying in the bottom of the sea, but still she endured.

The Endurance did not reach land, as it became trapped in dense pack ice. After they were stuck in the ice for 10 months, the 28 men on board were forced to eventually abandon ship. They escaped in lifeboats and on foot.
Capt. Frank Worsley marked down the coordinates where it sank. The Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust said these played a key role in the discovery of the vessel.

Good to know Capt. Worsley’s Records were still on the mark and part of the find-thank you for relaying-appreciate that a great deal (my childhood was greatly impacted by my mother sharing the story of the unbelievable saga that was the Shackleton Expedition with be in a definitive book about it-can’t remember title-and then she & I going on to read any & everything on it we could ever get our hands on together after that). It’s a big part of me, and I still think about it very, very often). Awesome to know that super interesting fact. It says alot. Thanks again.

Frank Worsley - the guy who navigated a tiny lifeboat to South Georgia, a micro speck in the vast south atlantic. I figured we could rely on his location for the wreck. Shackelton was probably the best leader of men in history - Frank Worsley, probably the best navigator...

    Fantastic!
Go ahead and disturb the wreck. Get the ships bell and put it in a museum, to honor those brave souls who died on a voyage of discovery over 100 years ago.
That is the way it is done.

While it is a shame that we just have to leave it, it also feels sort of fitting. Leaving it there to remain, until long after this generation is gone, as a monument to one of the greatest moments of human endurance and leadership outside of wartime.

I would take a beam. You could raise a shit ton of money with it, I'd buy a trinket that had a splinter from the Endurance. Leave the rest to Poseidon, sure, but you could pay for that entire expedition with well executed marketing. Tasteful of course...not tacky. :-)

Since no one died in the sinking of the endurance it’s just wood not a tomb. So by reason it is not a memorial.

Amazing that was only 107 years ago. Now there are tourist trips to the Antarctic, and a marathon. Why are we so impatient and let our reach exceed our grasp all the time. Patience is a trait we are unfamiliar with. I see people signing up for a one way Mars trip ... will we ever learn?
