Lots of comments about the Passport thing.. Phuket is “run” a little different to everywhere else in Thailand, I have been to about 20+ shops to investigate this and they all require a physical passport.. if anyone knows a place that doesn’t require it, let me know.
I have been to Phuket and they are ok with just having a picture of your passport. I really recommand Diamond Phuket Airport Scooter Motorbike Rental, it's just outside the airport and if you just have a backpack it's the best, you skip the grab and you can drive directly where you want to go from the airport.
I always travel with two driving licenses and I will leave one as at deposit. This has always worked over every part of Thailand so far! Just a little tip ❤

I always advise people to get two driving licenses before they go backpacking in Asia to use one of them as a deposit in various places because if someone tries to scam you can always just walk away.

Yes, you are correct about the benefits of going in shoulder season but the end of April/May is repressive in regard to heat and humidity - this year was particularly bad imo🤒
Just pay 3000 baht security deposit, make sure you get that written on your rental agreement and your good! No need to leave your passport ! Ps ... let the photocopy it ... but you dont need to leave it !

Good video! A couple of comments, not criticisms. You reviewed Patong, not Phuket. Patong is very different from anywhere else in Phuket. Personally, I am not a fan but great if that's what you want. I would never leave my passport with a bike/car hire shop. They are mostly crooks and not the sort of people you would want to hold your passport (it's probably thrown into an unlocked drawer). The hotel deal was a good one and the view was mega, however, that road would be busy all night. I hope you could sleep! 150 baht for a meal is fine and not expensive IMO.

You can get from the airport to Patong & vice versa via "Phuket Smart Bus", 100 baht. It has air conditioning too 🙂 It has a few stops along the way but I enjoyed the view.
If u dont have motorbike license, dont rent a motorbike. They Will rent i to u No problem there. But if u get in to problems your insurense wont have your back.
In chiang mai, they wanted to do the passport thing with me but i was living there for months, ended up putting down 5k baht deposit instead. gotta make it to phuket at some stage. great vid!
One of the biggest turn off are the taxi mafia 🤬. Bars scare the hell out of me because of scammers and getting ripped off so I never go to bars. Last time I went to a bar is 30 years ago 😂😂😂😂
Last year during high season was the worse , I paid 30,000 baht for a pcx150 for three months ( I know I was getting ripped off but that’s all I could find ).. this past high season I paid 11000 baht for a pcx160 for two months
Crazy the a 40 baht meal is 150 in Phuket. I suppose it's location. I think I have been to Phuket about five times and really wanted to like it but it was not great. I would pick Samui over Phuket every time. More chilled. I never even had to show my passport there. I knew the guy so away you go. A good tip is take the most crappy and scratched up bike you can then they won't know if you drop it.

I can’t remember the name of the shops, but I’ve been to a few and all they require is a photocopy of your passport and a 3000 baht bond that you get back when you return the bike. I’ve been going there for 17 years. I’ve ridden a scooter every time and I’ve never left my passport with anybody.
I used to stay in that area of Phuket 20-30 years ago at a joint called Patong Beach Hotel which I presume is long gone. Great location, although I haven’t been there for gems.
I liked Patong at first until I realised how corrupt & expensive it was compared to other places. The cops make 10’s of $1000’s per day from no helmet/int license fines ($1000B a pop) at the end of Bangla Rd. They tried to fine me multiple days in a row, but let me off because I told them they’d already fined me: which just goes to prove its corrupt. F**k that. I much prefer the chilled out islands now. Koh Phangan is my new number 1, but currently on Samui about to head home. Fellow Aussie here too. 🇦🇺🤙🏼
They will allow you to substitute your passport instead of the 10,000 baht cash deposit the Xmax usually goes for. Its really up to you what you leave for the deposit!

never give your passport when renting a bike, they almost always accept money which they will give you back after you return it (normally like 1000-2000 baht if i remember correctly)
Patong have good local cheap restaurant for 100 baht a meal just need to go on secondary road and not in front of the beach road and tourism street where Everything is cost more 😬
Motorbike for rent Chok patong Is the best motor bike place. They will take deposit too but it’s 10k if you don’t wanna leave your passport. They are honest though.

Just be careful about posting the info of the Grab/Bolt people mate. When I was last in Phuket my Grab driver made me walk to outside the airport as they aren't allowed into the airport. Yours looked like a normal cab so all good. My bloke was just a guy in a sick van. Because they do it so much cheaper the other cabbies (naturally) kick up a stink about it.

Point to note , don’t leave your passport , photo copy signed and dated is enough , like hotels even the big ones that’s all that is needed by law. Also your breaking Australian privacy and security laws by handing over you passport. The embassy will have a laugh at you and call you an idiot. Don’t do it go to another place that follows Thai laws. Even visa agents in Thailand know this but still do it 😂 that’s why so many are also getting cracked down on not just cause of edu visa , There’s an actual law that forbids the removal of a passport from a person.

Phuket and the surrounding areas seem to be a lot more expensive say for the likes of Pattaya ......... yourthai drivers lic /bike licence has your passport number on it so no real need to give the passport ..... generally that's to hold you to ransom , I'd just do grab in that case

Don’t EVER hand out your passport!!!!! They can make a copy. If that isn’t good enough go to another rental place!!!!! You legally have to have your passport and your license in your when riding a bike. It’s just a way for a rental company to hold your passport hostage.

I have been to both places and each is different. It's up to the individual at the end of the day.
Don’t EVER hand out your passport!!!!! They can make a copy. If that isn’t good enough go to another rental place!!!!! You legally have to have your passport and your license in your when riding a bike. It’s just a way for a rental company to hold your passport hostage.
