They totally overlooked that fact that Weak/Crit/Tech x3 would give an advantage to those playing on Merciless when they restricted the All Out Attack.
Merciless is weird in Royal. It's like they wanted to make the hardest mode possible, but the x3 weakness makes it way to easy for players who even somewhat understand using weaknesses and technical.
It’s the same way in P5 classic (although to a lesser degree there as boss fights are the true challenge in P5 and while 3 palace bosses involve weaknesses in Royal, P5 classic only has 1, that being this one)
It’s so easy just beat like 1 week ago to test for myself and surprisingly it was way too easy so Atlus basically broke this fight for merciless players
I feel like Merciless difficulty resides on not messing up, not missing the attack and sneaking well even though the Shadows look like they have a third eye in the fucking back and I can never sneak on them cause the security level goes up too much.
I didn't have concentrate or the heavy-damage elemental skills for this fight, so it was pretty much impossible on hard, even with the magic item baton pass strat.
WOW. I heard so many horror stories about this fight, yet you made it look like a cakewalk. On Hard, no less, so there was no damage bonus from Merciless! Great job!
@@viatrix5844 cuz the majority of people i see having trouble with the boss are those without psy attacks on joker, forget items can be used to raise BPass level or care about concentrate/charge at this level
Even with Psy attacks on Joker is struggled through the green boss phase. Using him and Haru, I was getting screwed by the guy he put the defense on. I screwed myself with not having a defense down trait for enemies trait on anyone. Couldn’t make one with the guillotine for Joker. It was just a total shit show. Finally beat it cause Futaba decided she’d show up and put an attack boost on.
Honestly, this fight wasn't that hard. Just had to use buffs and debuffs, items, accessories for weaknesses, baton pass to make attacks stronger and finally... triple down.

Genius, genius! Back in a video covering this boss fight in Vanilla, I remember someone saying that " it felt like the Baton Pass was made specifically for this fight." I love how you really big-brained it with this. Charging Jokka at the start was really confusing, especially as you only used magics at the bots. Using those Gale Magatamas, Wind Bombs and Psy Magatamas to get free Baton Passes to give Joker [Dmg Up++++] and [Skill Cost -> 0] (with the addition of [HP Recover] from BP Rank 2) to obliterate the enemy is exactly what the game wants you to do. (Heck, Ice Magatamas can easily net mega-Tech score when fighting Yu in his Challenge Fight for easy rewards.) But then, I was blown away when you reached Excurobo. A Maziodyne to weaken him a bit... then grab a Crit with Mona's Miracle Punch and passing to Jokka... Only to slap it a charged Rising Slash with [Atk Up](Tarukaja), [Dmg Up](Rising Slash BP Boost), [Dmg Up](BP) and [Dmg +20%](Striking Weight)! Jeez, 2125 damage! (Bonus points for landing Crit with that Swift Strike too!) {Funny thing I wanna share: When Skull missed that Assault Dive, my head automatically heard him say "A-ara?", which was his miss quote in Q2. lol} And of course, Noir to deliver the final blow. Very very fitting.
This boss fight was so hard for the main reason that the green guys were way to bulky. even using max baton pass with Haru barely did a quarter of one health. I ended up using a dlc persona to beat the boss.
I honestly really enjoyed this fight. It was the only one that gave me a real challenge on hard mode. Took me two tries on my playthrough, and I beat it with less than a minute to spare when my sister had me help her for her playthrough.
Seriously tho Every other boss fight i just stacked buffs and attacked with joker and won Even with Shido This fight actually made me think when and how i was going to use attacks First playthrough ngl it took me like 3-5 tries I lucked out when i saw a curse damage vile thing in my items which allowed me to max my baton passes

Even tho i still think this boss is terribly design and an example of how not to make a boss fight. I gotta admit this was the only time i actually had to think in a boss fight in P5. I came up with a whole strategy involving Mona, Noir, and Magatsu-Izanagi. I forgot what it was but it was kinda elaborate. Every other boss can be summed up as raising your stats, Charge/Concentrate, then attack. The gimmicks each fight has doesn't really impact too much except the final fight in the game
I'd trade a terribly designed difficult boss fight for an easy but well designed boss fight any day of the week. I still can't fathom why they made his boss fight worse than it was in vanilla. Its somehow more tedious than before, bordering on a war of attrition rather than a genuine fight
I REALLY dislike the Okumura fight. The only reason why it was difficult is because it completely restricts a feature that you had the whole game. I have a few ideas on how to fix it like giving you the chance for an all out attack, or pulling a P3 and making it cost a turn for them to get up, but those solutions would make it too easy. Do you have any ideas?
@@TrueXTrickster i guess it has more to do with the symbolism of him hiding behind his robots. Like how kaneshiro hides behind his bodyguards. But I do agree that there were too many robots. I feel like they should've made like a mandatory wave style fight( like in the boss battle) before you fight okumura (giving player time to get their shit together) and then just have a couple of tank robots and harubot and then okumura. It's like kaizo Mario levels without checkpoints. "If I can do it once, I can do it again, you're just wasting my time. At that point it's not difficult, just tedious."
The only problem i ever had with this fight was that there are important character moments and dialogue that happen during the fight....with the timer still going. Once you understand the mechanics of this fight its a cake walk

The Nyancave used a Baton Pass+Triple Down strategy, and the damage was absolutely MONSTROUS thanks to Snipe+Cripple! I presume it was on Hard, too, since that's what they had the difficulty at when I checked early in the series... (Also because being cocky with the executive led to being 1-hit Big Banged. If that sounds gross, I don't even care).

I can't be the only one who did this fight first try, and was super confused why people were all up in arms. Edit: I did this with Kaguya Picaro with a full magic ability, amp, and boost passives while attack boosted and using charge on hard difficulty, so I blew threw it. Never stopped to note just how much of a pain it could be during a casual play through.
It took me a few tries but I finished the boss in less than an hour. The fight isn’t hard if you know who to use and how to maximize damage between baton passes. Hit 3 robots with single target weaknesses, then down the fourth one with an aoe weakness, then baton pass for extra damage, preferably to joker to exploit more weakness.
This is big-brained strats right here. A starting Charge to set up for the Executive robot 4 phases later, Concentrates into max Baton Pass chains via the elemental items into Mighty Gaze AoE, and then a Miracle Punch crit to Baton Pass for a boosted Charged Striking Weight Rising Slash. Holy shit.
I heard this boss was really tough, but I played on normal mode (which is ehhh on the difficulty) and it was tough, but nowhere near as bad as people say... Its interesting.

When I did this fight (on normal) I was so worried about the time limit that I spammed through all the dialogue lol, for good reason too, I ended with 3 seconds left
if you dont have the right items or magic ready youre gonna have a bad time and if you let them run away and your order falls apart youre basically done for had to try several times with my unoptimized team, got a check mate many times, only a perfect run was able to get me through this
I am glad I thought it was just me who had trouble with this fight. I am playing on Hard mode as well and this fight kicked my ass since I did not prepare enough
On my 1st playthrough on Royal (played Vanilla as well) I played on hard mode but man once I got to Okumara's palace, I felt like I was about to have a mental shutdown. Took me like 12 tries to beat this crap.
on one end merciless makes this game incredibly easy at times but if you die on merciless frustration isn't even the word to begin to describe the emotion you go through
Meanwhile, i managed to finish with 1 minute to spare on safe because it took me til i was down to 5 minutes to figure out that they were weak to psyche, and they kept fleeding, i only managed to scrape by thanks to megidolaon
This was the one me boss I had to change the difficulty on. I played the entire game on hard except for this boss. I died so many time to him just like the first game and lost so many times and just gave in and switched to normal
This boss fight was so hard for me that it took me months to do cause it made me not wanna play the game. All together it probably took me over 6 hours? It was until I caved in and went back the previous morning and grinded in mementos and got up 7 levels. It was only after all that that I was able to actually beat him!
This fight during my first playthrough was the first boss battle that I beat on one try, and i was honestly disappointed. I didn’t have many issues with it considering I already had SP adhesives and stockpiled tons of curry and coffee before hand.
If you really want this fight to be hard, set the difficulty to hard and set your teammates to act freely. Timing is everything and if you're not careful your teammates screw you over more than the enemies do.
Besides the final boss, I think this is the hardest in the game. It is so dumb. (probably because I didn't have the best personas but it is dumb that you get punished for not beating the robots in time and no all out attacks makes it pretty bad)

You could use Ann and persona with shock boost (almost 100% chance to shock enemies) and just wipe them all with tech. Did it like that in first try:)

On my 1st playthrough on Royal (played Vanilla as well) I played on hard mode but man once I got to Okumara's palace, I felt like I was about to have a mental shutdown. Took me like 12 tries to beat this crap.
on one end merciless makes this game incredibly easy at times but if you die on merciless frustration isn't even the word to begin to describe the emotion you go through

i don’t even think it was possible to get the charge or concentrate skills at this point in the game unless you grinded mementos hard

Meanwhile, i managed to finish with 1 minute to spare on safe because it took me til i was down to 5 minutes to figure out that they were weak to psyche, and they kept fleeding, i only managed to scrape by thanks to megidolaon

I struggled on this boss alone simply because I was trying to do this with Arsene only and holy fuck I’ve had at least 5 or more tries with this boss
This was the one me boss I had to change the difficulty on. I played the entire game on hard except for this boss. I died so many time to him just like the first game and lost so many times and just gave in and switched to normal
That's what I did too it was to annoying
I switched to merciless but same idea
Imagine switching hard difficulty cause of a fight.
My main problem is that the robots would keep running away if I didn’t destroy them.
You had to beat them in 2 turns so they don't run away
This boss fight was so hard for me that it took me months to do cause it made me not wanna play the game. All together it probably took me over 6 hours? It was until I caved in and went back the previous morning and grinded in mementos and got up 7 levels. It was only after all that that I was able to actually beat him!
This fight during my first playthrough was the first boss battle that I beat on one try, and i was honestly disappointed. I didn’t have many issues with it considering I already had SP adhesives and stockpiled tons of curry and coffee before hand.

If you really want this fight to be hard, set the difficulty to hard and set your teammates to act freely. Timing is everything and if you're not careful your teammates screw you over more than the enemies do.

Besides the final boss, I think this is the hardest in the game. It is so dumb. (probably because I didn't have the best personas but it is dumb that you get punished for not beating the robots in time and no all out attacks makes it pretty bad)
