You should dip it, strip it from paint, then strip it for rust, then bake it for future rust protection, then paint, otherwise in two years it's back for more bodywork. Sandblasting is history.
    Amazing work.

How on earth do you keep going Ryan......Working sooooo many hours is not healthy young man....heed my words. You'll thank me later in life..... You and your dad are brilliant. Have you considered chemical dipping rather than blasting to remove all organics ( paint, filler, sealant, etc. )?

    • @diffusian4749

dipping decreases the strength of the metal therefore making it weaker and possibly quicker to rot

The only consolation is Matt doesn’t normally crash his cars but a roll cage in the event of worst case scenario will minimise a bad outcome. Also the cage is removable. Let’s just hope the car is not mongrelised too much in the engine bay.

I've been following this thread, along with all the other projects at YCR, and this has been absolutely epic. it was almost a bag of rust held together with a bit of metal - it should have been consigned to the dustbin. No mere mortal would have taken on this challenge. How many times have we heard you say 'we've only got such and such to do' only to uncover yet another can of worms. Hats off to you guys, I love the way you switch between your various projects it keeps it all fresh, but it's all super watchable and we never quite know what's coming next.

Unbelievable Ryan. I know you are still young and are having to work like this because of some crazy deadline that has just happened, but please look after yourself. I ran my own business for 40 years and had to do loads of all-nighters. I did my last one when I was 60 and swore I would never do another, which I am glad to say I haven't. You are tired, freezing cold, this is when accidents happen. You got away with just bending something the wrong way, but it could easily be a slip with the grinder. As others say, no car is more important than your health and well being. Anyway, all that said, you are producing some of the best restoration videos on TH-cam, we are all very lucky to be able to follow your projects.

⚠⚠⚠Please please please reconsider the half cage. Half cages act as a pivotpoint and then the roof becomes a lever. Because of the added support for the B and C pillar, parts of the stress go into the chassis, but parts also go to the unsupported A pillar raising the risk of collapsing A pillars. If that happens the roof will fold right into your face crushing your head. Because the head is almost in the pivotpoint your head will experience maximum lever effect. Extend the cage to the front, including A pillars or get the cage out. This is potentially deadly. ⛔⛔⛔
