    Thanks for the video. My wife worked at a bank and kids would bring in tons of coins that were MS (not graded) probably after a death in the family. She bought all of it at face value, which was still a considerable amount of money (several thousands but less than 10K). She gave it to me as Birthday, Christmas gifts. I thought it was pretty good idea as I didnt need any more socks. She actually had a $500 bill come in but her boss, the branch manager, gave it to the bank manager.

    I'll make a buffalo nickel concave with a ball-peen hammer and solder a little copper wire loop in the concave part. They make excellent buttons if you make leather coats or shirts such as I did with an elk and a deer hide and Harley leathers. The nickels are usually worn down when you buy them in bulk.

    I have 4 CC Morgan Dollars from the Govt Auction, in their slab configuration. My uncle who suggested that my mom should bid. Said "the govt grading people did a poor job of it". Should I send them into 3 party grading group, PCGS or NGC?

    • @robbonaiuto3501
      @robbonaiuto3501 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It depends. First, look up grading guides online and try to get an approximate of each coins grade. Then look that coin up using an online price guide like PCGS’s or NGC’s by year and your approximate grade. It’s the value of the coin is over $100 I’d say go for it. You gotta put a little work into it. Even some CC’s are somewhat common. Some would increase significantly in value by being graded and slabbed. Others, not so much. If you do decide to get them graded stick with NGC, PCGS, or CAC. They will bring the best prices. Please note CAC is very strict with grading.

      Most dealers do NOT wear gloves and neither does PCGS or NGC or ANACS, get out to the shows a bit and see what I am saying. Also, I didn't handle any BU coin by the face, there wasn't any BU or problem free coins in this lot. The halves had tape on them and had to be restored.

    • @robbonaiuto3501
      @robbonaiuto3501 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is 100% correct. Gloves are not needed. If you’re concerned about fingerprints just dip the coin in pure acetone. Problem solved. BTW the world’s best graders do NOT wear gloves even when grading coins worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

    A friend of mine started buying silver coins advertised on television. 1 ounce silver coins. I forget the price something like $29.99+ shipping for each coin.. so with shipping it was like $35 a coin
    he was buying them every week for years..
    he got into some financial trouble, he had a Business that started out as a job working in his basement, and it became bigger and had employees, all the while he held down his regular job. So he was pretty much working 50 to 60 hours a week for years trying to keep his business , while holding down his job that he had since he got out of the Navy in the early 1970s
    The business collapsed, mainly because of the people he hired that got greedy and took risks..Ended up declaring bankruptcy, and one of his employees ended up bailing him out and owning the business..
    set my friend was selling pretty much anything he had. Tools, his motorcycle, his guitars and amplifiers, his stereo system. And finally his silver coins..
    those commercials kept pointing out how the value of silver is going to skyrocket..
    well that sky rocket had a dud for a fuse..
    my friend called the company that was gladly selling him coins every week through the mail. he asked them if they would be interested in buying them back. they told him to take those coins to a store that buys grandma’s jewelry, unwanted jewelry, coins, things like that
    so he did. He took all those coins in their special containers to keep them perfect to several places. They all went by the same business practice..
    it didn’t matter what coin it was, they would only pay him for the weight of the coin. He invested $35 in each coin. At the time silver was around $18 an ounce. they told him they would give him $18 an ounce -10%, -$.85 per coin transaction fee.. so they would only pay him $15.05 for each coinhe paid $35 for.. he lost $19.95 per coin..
    OK so let’s say they were gold coins. The same thing applies. They subtract 10% from the spot value at that moment, and then they subtract $.85 per coin transaction fee..
    So let’s say he had gold coins and the worlds monetary system collapsed. They say you buy gold as a hedge against inflation or a guarantee if the dollar work to collapse..
    So how do you go to a grocery store and buy a loaf of bread with a gold coin? How are they going to make change? With worthless paper? Pennies?

    • @kyleharrington1228
      @kyleharrington1228 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the dollar collapses, you really think there will be grocery stores selling bread?

    • @davidparisi4980
      @davidparisi4980 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kyleharrington1228 Probably not,but his point is they are not going to be a practical way of trade.whos going to set value it'd be how bad do you want or need it,these videos prove that coin collecting is a nice hobby and that's all,unless you have very very rare specific dates in uncirculated condition.this silver gold in case of
      SHTF stuff is a massive come on.When silver went to $50 an ounce it was because of the Hunt bros,and during the depression the government confiscated gold.So if your left coins by someone yeah you'll make a little money,a little bit more than face value.

    I went into a coin shop I frequently visit to buy coins. Some lady was trying to sell her coins for retail. The owner said people would buy the coins on ebay for less. He turned to me and I had ebay already pulled up on my phone. He said to the woman see what I mean. Me personally would rather even pay more at a coin dealer because you're pretty sure what your getting. A lot of photos of the coins can be misleading or the coin may be fake. I bought one that was ms but when I received it I could tell it had been heavily cleaned.

    A cool video topic would be whether you ever lose out on $ when you list an auction. Do auctions ever slip through the cracks and someone nabs them for less than market value? How do you react? Do/can you take steps to prevent that from happening? (And vice versa - do you ever get an auction where it sells for a lot more than you thought, and why do yout hink that happens?) Does it make you consider selling more coins at auction vs. a flat listing? How do you decide what to auction vs. list at a price?

    The condition of the coin is the most important key to grading and pocket value....Yes?
    I use my Lincoln Penny collection as Sling Shot ammo. The 1911 to 1980 pile of copper is G grade, not bad.
    The vacant lot needs more than weeds and rabbits. Two hundred slugs of metal have lasted several years.
    When I found out the Copper and Silver I own is just melt....
    Some of the Copper from 1870 to 1940, from the USA and Mexico, I'm sure has some historic value.
    As a survivor of con artists and family feuds, my collection of scrap metal will hit the rabbits very well.
    The idea of someone other than myself being able to make ANY kind of profit from this lifelong hoarding
    of history, is a hellish insult. I will continue to dispose of the things, as rabbit ammo, with pleasure.

It included a lot of silver vanity pieces from the the '70s Phillippines under Marco's. I conservatively graded them all at $170-, and was given $4.50. Very cool!! Amazing what people "put back" or find from a relative. I am new to coin collections. My wife came across her grandfather's collection. I am overwelmed with it. Thank you for making these YT videos! ;)

    Your bars. The ones in the back look like the president's. A friend has about 15 of them along with other coins. From the father in law. The father years ago loaned someone money and I guess they gave the coins instead of cash.

    You said $3 for the 68D…?
    That would be below melt & it’s BU. Is that standard for what one should expect from their LCS? Genuinely curious considering I often here how 40% halves & war nickels are undesirable.

      It wasn't below melt when I bought them. I pay melt.

    Out of all the coins you showed, the type sets are my favorite!
    I've got a complete 20th century set and I'm working on the 19th century set.
    Great video and beautiful coins.👍🇺🇸

      The 19th century U.S. coins are my favorites--especially the Seated Libertys and 3-cent pieces. Happy collecting!

    $1 over melt for walkers? 6 months ago when the melt value was something like $7 each. But you couldn't buy them on Ebay for that. A good price at that time for a buyer on Ebay was $10 each. And there were many sale on Ebay of way over that price. IMHO & experience.

      $1 over melt on the dollar. If melt was 19 times face I paid 20 times face.

    In the last two decades radio has gone obsolete. The result is we rarely listen to radio. Likewise in the last decade cash, especially in coin form, has gone obsolete. While we barely use cash anymore, that may get people more interested in collecting vintage coins, like what is happening with LP records.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Radio isn't obsolete. It's coming but just like cash, it will take a long time coming before no one is using it and the Feds stop printing it.

    Earlier in the video did you say "melt value"?
    It's my understanding that this illegal.
    I've always been confused on this issue.

    I notice that most type sets usually always use worn, polished, plated and damaged coins. I hardly ever see them with great examples. To me those are a turn off cuz I don't like the looks of the coins they use in them I rather create my own.

    The CC Morgan 1878? I noticed has the same error as a S Morgan Dollar in this video : the recognizable error is the Arrow Bundle’s quivers. All but one of the arrow’s heads is on an angle pointing down while the matching quiver should not run parallel to thr othrr wuivers in the Arrow Bundle. In this worn looking Morgan reverse it is recognizable that all these Quivers run parallel to one another instead of one angled up? This is infact an error coin. I wonder, Does this error increase the value of this coin to the right collector? Plus being minted at the Carson City Mint which no longer exists? Actually the Dye used to form the error must be a defective dye? How else could an error such as this be found on this coin, but given the amount of error coins produced will this effect the value of the coin? I am seeing an increase in collector’s interested in aquiring error coins in this decade.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither coin has an error and it wouldn’t be an error it would be a die variety. Please watch my video on error or variety since it’s important to know the differences.
