G'day mate. Love your maple videos. I just got some sphagnum to attempt air layers on a huge tree in my yard. I did one way back in the day and remember how hard it was packing it all in but I found a method that looks far easier. You just pack the sphagnum into a ziploc bag which is wide enough to cover the area you need. You pack it in the bottom and that's gonna be your air layer. Then you slit the bag on the side as if it's a hot dog bun, and you apply it to the branch as if the branch was the dog in the bun. Then you use the remaining top of the bag to wrap around the whole thing making it easier to tie up. daleysfr has a video called Tutorial: Marcotting in 5 steps (Air Layering) if you'd like to see it done. Cheers. 😀
Of ALLLLLL the air lauering videos i watched, you gave the clearest example of where to make my cuts. THANK YOU! I just hope i am able to know when im looking at cambium, or deeper layers so i dont mess that part up.
Me neither bro. I’m so excited to see how it will turn out. I’ll be posting Shorts every few weeks as an update and then make a full video detaching it and potting it. 🤩🤩🤩
Hi bro. The knife that you used to make the cut is super sharp and it makes the cutting clean. I would appreciate it if you could put a link on where to obtain it? I hope to get an extra edge and confidence in doing my first air layering!
Sir my japanese maple sapling is 7 month old which my sister gifted me ,i have change the plastic bag n transfer in pot ,i kept inside a room where its get bright light of morning ,so sir advice will be a great help to me
To answer both comments you sent me. All Japanese Maples can take morning sun but not all Japanese Maples can take full sun. It all depends in the cultivar. To make sure your Japanese Maples is safe just put it somewhere where it gets only morning sun and you will be good to go.
@@Piercat212 with Air Layering there’s always risks of loosing the branch. It is why I recommend using branch that you would’ve cut anyways. My tree was growing long and narrow and I don’t like that, so I air layer the branch, if I loose the branch, no biggie and if I have a successful air layer then it’s a bonus for me.

Do you put the plant in a shaded place or can put it out in full sun
Put it in my 50% shade area. Forgot to mention it. Thanks, I’ll talk about that in my next air layer video.
New to Japanese maples so sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is the purpose of air layering?
To make a new tree out of the current one.
Really?!? How likely is it to be successful? Also what are the risks to damaging your current shishi? Thanks for all the help
