Some guy put out a top 10 list of the best NPR mini concerts, and this video of Jackie was not on his list, not even an honorable mention. He is now off my list of people who know how to compile good top 10 lists.
Have followed Jackie for 11 years and haven't seen this in several years. Within seconds of her sing 'Ombra Mai Fu' the tears were running down my face, kind of took me by surprise. An amazing little girl and at only just turned 11.
From the camera shot farthest away she looks nervous, but from the close up she looks so confident and totally in her element. What a beautiful and talented girl!!
What you are seeing far away, if Jackies nervious energy, especially when the piano player is playing, rather than her singing, from which she draws her emotional connection to the song, and to the audience. What you see up close, is in the zone discipline and concentration on perfection, which directs that energy, into a perfect performance.
This was recorded about 10 years ago. Jackie is now 20 and is even better now. She not only sings classical but has branched into every genre. Fantastic no matter what she sings.

It was many years ago now. I'm really sorry to say, these were her absolute best performances as she didn't progress in her career unfortunately. Her young voice should have been protected and preserved. I'm not saying she can't sing now but listen to her performances today and compare.
I totally agree. That was her strong range. When they had her sing higher she sounded strained and harder to understand. I believe that's was her downfall. I don't think her parents protected her voice as she became the main bread winner for the family. Listen to her concerts in dallas and elsewhere when she was this age. She was absolutely amazing...Then listen to identical songs now... She lost the quality and uniqueness of her voice imo.

Thank you, NPR, for reviving this video of the very delightful and talented Jackie Evancho. Jackie puts everything--heart, mind and body--into her performances. As if her astounding voice were not enough to satisfy, she gives us arm waves, fist pumps and even eyebrow-raising. Jackie today is a beloved star who sings everything--and sings all of it with grace and excellence.

As I recall, all three songs were posted, but one was audio only. I think it was "Lovers" (from House of Flying Daggers). Cute. She had a knack for phrasing, pitch and tone, and the other things that some people back then used to knock her for are all forgivable. She was definitely a prodigy with promise. Her voice now is more natural and brassy in a good way. Two good examples of her adult voice are, "A Million Dreams" (from The Greatest Showman) and "She Used To Be Mine" (from The Waitress), both from her latest album, The Debut, which she has posted on her channel.
She has publicly stated how difficult a lot of her earlier career was. Like being TOLD she was to perform at Trump inauguration, one of her biggest regrets she has stated, but did it because her "team" decided it.
@@tbz1551 She did not state that she "regretted it". In fact she said in interview that she had no regrets because she "sang for her country, not the man".
At 18, a multi-millionaire, she took command of her career as an independent artist with her own recording label, JE Touring Inc. and now answers to no one, having complete creative control of her music and pursuing her own aspirations and goals, unwilling to compromise her integrity and concede to being owned and controlled by the industry for corporate profits just be more popular. The young lady knows what she wants and will attain it on her own terms.
