    Alot of soldiers make the mistake of using the compression sack for their sleep system, they would save alot more space if they just put the sleep system into the pack and let it 'fill the voids' like water takes shape of the cup

    At SFAS, the cadre actually offered any candidates with a 4K the chance to swap out for a large MOLLE ruck. They said something like, "We're gonna torture you here, but not that badly. We know those things suck" Also, most of the guys in SOPC who had hip and back issues were using the 4K. Myself and some folks at my unit opt to use the old ALICE with the tac tailor pads. its LIGHTYEARS better.
    Along with that, I don't use any issued gear, besides the assault pack, sleep system, and IFAK. My chest rig and battle belt are all aftermarket from reputable manufacturers.

    The biggest issue with this pack imo is the lack of sustainment pouches, just less useful than the large ruck. Speaking from experience

      @@freddyt86 I tried because of the placement of the molle web you cannot fully secure the sustainment pouches and you cant use the straps on the sides to cinch them down as easily as the regular large ruck

    After seeing all the comments... I'm glad i missed out on this thing. I had the MOLLE II ruck from 2009-2014. If I'd known how to size it properly, it might not have caused the problems for me it did. Then again... my torso is a bit short. The ALICE smacked me in the head if I could get it to rest on my hips.

      @JC-af ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You want a COTS solution? That would make too much sense! Just came from a highly deployed USAF unit, and all our backpacks were either straight civilian or civilian-military line. We stayed away from pretty much everything with a NSN. Although the medium ruck is really good, liked it more than Mystery Ranch.

      The sergeants major mafia would blow a gasket with that many packs out there it would destroy their uniformity B.S. also most unit packing lists are B.S. they make you pack crap that you never use in the field. Ex 11B 77-87.

      @@JC-af The medium is good, until its all the army issues you and you can't bring more than a few days worth of shit to the field. We didn't need something to bridge the gap between the assault pack and the large ruck, but the army pushed it out anyways.

  • @JakubRosman
    @JakubRosman ปีที่แล้ว +19

    This thing looks terrible for any sort of long range patrol due to the lack of carrying a lot of stuff efficiently. The old MOLLE ruck had draw strings, lots of space, and large sustainment pouches. Look at the pouches here, they have zippers; if you're trying to stuff things, they won't cinch up.
    If you're carrying 100+ lbs of gear, you need any advantage you can get.
    There was probably a reason they didn't let us take these rucks to Ranger School and now I'm starting to understand why.

    • @JakubRosman
      @JakubRosman ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Moore's Bootstrap I was talking about the school house. Go ahead and tell the Ranger Instructors that you shouldn't be carrying more than 1/3 your body weight; they'll laugh your way out of Darby. I bet this thing is awkward to carry any sort of heavy load with.
      I agree carrying more than you should is harmful to your body but the Army isn't pretty and sometimes you have to do more than you have to because the mission says so. This pack doesn't fit the glove; it looks like an Assault pack with a frame.

    Was just issued a new one, and I hate it. I don’t mind the size, though the Molle 2 Carrie’s more, but the shoulder strap design is terrible. I’ve seen earlier versions with better strap design, but my new one is junk. They’re mounted straight, as if my neck isn’t going to be in the way.

      I got the non airborne version. At first I thought I was missing pieces but, I looked at my hand receipt and everything was there. The straps are low quality and does not even have the quick release on it. No sustainment pouches and I can't put my sleeping bag in the bottom. They expect you to put all the weight in the center. Only good thing is I can't feel anything while rucking so I guess that's good.

    The best bergen ever invented is the British PLCE, big, comfortable, practical, bomb proof and it just works. It’s 40 years old and the majority of the British Army still use them by choice today. Despite numerous newer designs being available through the system.

    • @spencegame

      Yeah they just need to restart production of the frames and issue them out. So much has improved with padding and straps that an ALICE pack with some new bits perform much better than a MOLLE while being cheaper than high end rucks.

  • @barnaclebill1615
    @barnaclebill1615 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    The army has overloaded the large ruck to carry more than the frame is designed to hold. They’ll overload the 4000 as well. It’s all great on paper, until you’re the one humpin it. Great example of another “highest bidder” failure.👎👎
