  • In this video I am painting Styx, a seal merle border collie. His colouration is not so common but was very interesting and enjoyable to paint. My style is very realistic and I use acrylics on fabriano artistico HP 300lb and this painting is A3 size but a bit squared off to fit him in better. A3 is approx 16x12.

I am a super amateur painter. I find tiny fur very difficult. But I have stopped painting when my German Sheppard/ timber wolf died in 2019 after 16 wonderful years. He was a hurricane Katrina victim.
I now have a 6 year old American long hair German Sheppard. The crazy part is she is mostly black with tiny bits of brown. I am wanting to paint her bec her previous owner bought her bec she can't have kids. Then in 2020 she went to the hospital for a staph infection that was determined to stay. She was admitted to the hospital for 2 days. She woke up over a year later. She caught covid, had a serious stroke & went into a coma. We woke up 8 months later. She couldn't find her dog. She was moved all over the state. We know she was rehomed at least 6 times. Grayce wasn't treated kindly & all her training was replaced with some serious emotional issues. I was asked from a friend of mine to retrain her bec the owner wasn't able to take care of anything. The hired people all quit. After I had Grayce for 6 months to do basic obedience the ower came down to she if she could take care of her. Keep in mind Grayce has many emotional scars. After the weekend visit she sadly couldn't take care of her. Even though I was still very depressed from losing my dog I offer to keep her & train her to be a service dog. She was doing very well. Was happy she had a home longer than a month. 6 months was attacked at the local dog park by a huge dog. So she is going to remain mine. She may never be able to be a service dog. So I desperately want to paint her for her previous owner. She lost her dog through no fault of herself. I send her pictures & videos bec she lives several hours away. I am disabled & cant drive to her either. I have struggled with her painting & was hoping you could do a black long hair German Sheppard. We are both not in a place financially to be able to commission one. I love the idea of the 400lbs paper. That solves 1 problem. The paints i have are golden, martiss & a German one. Thank you if you can do a video on it. I cant pay an enormous amount but would gladly pay for a download Tutorial.

Hi...I do have a timelapse of a longhaired German Shepherd already on my channel and I have a Belgian Shepherd of a similar colour coming up. She is longer coated being 3/4 Terv...
I can't just paint stuff on request...I have to use what it is I am commissioned to do videos from because thats what pays the bills...

Do you have any tips or tutorials on painting brindle dogs or is the technique similar to merles? I have a black brindle bulldog to paint and I’m still sitting here debating how to go about it.

thank you for another fabulous video!!!!! i am using liquitex (the kind that dries flat and doesn't shine). if that is what you ordered, can you mention how you like it once you try it, please?

I already had it in black and i use soft body. My absolute fave black was a tube of reeves I had bought. Just a cheap acrylic but that black was actually really good. I just couldn't seem to get it when i ran out of that so went with Liquitex. The white wasn't so good though...I used it as a mixing white.

@@TmHudsonArt with the liquitex white, what was the problem? was it not opaque? i'm just curious, because all i have ever used is the liquitex paints. what white would you recommend? sorry if you mentioned it in one of your videos already.
