I thank God for every day I even wake up now. It's been around 7 to 8 years. I could say that it gets easier, but I think the Lord just gave me a stouter back to shoulder the weight with.
Just passed 7yrs without a drink. Waking up knowing how I got there is the part that keeps me going. Happy New year and take it a day at a time and the days start to add up.
I've has both of 'em for a few years and I like them too. I also luv the older series Pittsburgh composite ratchets (black & grey) for working in cold weather.
Interesting take. So far, I've worked with Craftsman USA, Stanley, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Snap-On, Icon, and more no-name ratchets than you can count. I wouldn't say the Icon is the best one I've ever used, but for the price, I'd say it's one of the best semi-professional tools you can buy.
And you can service them too! I appreciate a cheap ratchet that you can lubricate or fix if you break it. Yeah i know you can warranty them but what’s the fun in that? Happy New Year Jeff!
The beauty of the Pittsburg and HF in general, if you ever did break it, it is under warranty. Thanks for providing value rather than status in regard to tools.
People can say what they want about about the different level of tools. The different companies all have good and bad tools. If it works and is dependable its not wrong despite what the price tags say. Im a harbor freight fan. I still have some of my Dad's pittsburg tools from the 80's and they still work. Im a big believer in value for thr buck! Great info Jeff!
When I went to purchase the ICON 3/8 long handle flex head with comfort grip I took a good long look at the Pittsburgh version. The comfort grip handle felt nice and firm. The flex head joints were tight. The mechanism was smooth with negligeable back drag. They can be serviced and if it breaks it can be warranted. These ratchets are a great bang for the buck. Unfortunately the backwards reversing lever was the deal breaker. I'm too used to the normal reversing positions and purchased the ICON in the end. Let us just say that I GOT CONNED! 🤣🤣After inspecting the ICON in the car and finding the jerky flex head joint I almost went back in the store to return it and get the Pittsburgh. I just had to have that red handle.
Jeff, Happy New Year to you and Gail. I'm still smiling about that skit you did with Gail and her changing her own oil because you hadn't done it yet. Looking forward to 2025. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂
Finally somebody actually showing some love to HF. I have a few of each from 1/4 to 1/2 and have never had a problem with them. I use and abuse them and they've never stopped being my first choice instead of more expensive alternatives (which was lucky cause I dont have any of those😂)
Great video Jeff. I have the majority of the Pittsburgh ratchets and I'm really impressed with them. The back drag is extremely low on all but one. Harbor Fright is definitely my favorite store. Thanks for your honesty, if you review something I take it as the gospel and purchase it if needed. Thanks Jeff
the pittsburgh long handle 3/8" flex head is around $30, which I always turned my nose at, I wasn't going to pay $30 for a ratchet from harbor freight of all places. Then one particular week a few years ago they had it on sale for about $24 and out of curiosity I picked one up off the shelf and was blown away at how smooth the backdrag was. I went ahead and bought it, and it's been one of my favorite ratchets. I'd replace it at full price if it was stolen now.
I love these too, I have the flex head in 1/4 and 3/8. I don’t have a 1/2 inch yet, but they don’t sell them in the store anymore. I’ve been keeping my eyes open in the pawn shops and yard sales. One will eventually turn up. Happy new year everyone.
when i seen the back of the ratchet i new exactly what it was and thats what made me tune in.....The pittsburgh ratchets are most definitely are my favorite ratchet.....I love your collection of ratchets
I got a soft spot for ratchets. But it's weird because I always grab and use the first good one I bought years ago. A Snap-On soft grip duel 80 flex. Sometimes I wonder why I even bought others 😂. Probably would have saved myself a lot of money. I get it my friend, Happy New Year's.
You are right Jeff, the PP ratchets are very good ; all the other tool guys are blinded by the hype! That occasionally happens with wine as well , you get a year or in this case a production run that is exceptional. Good call Jeff.
You probably just struck a nerve with all those snapon tool snobs!Dont worry about them! I think they're just mad because they can't justify spending 20 times more for thiers. Those are great ratchets, they also got a pretty solid lifetime warranty on them too. Those are perfect for the DIYer or the guy just getting started. There is no need to buy once cry once with these! great video. BTW.. I like the pitsburghs and the Quinns more than the Icons.
Love your channel Jeff! I enjoy your knowledge of tools. I appreciate how you are honest in your reviews! I also believe the Pittsburgh Pro Series ratchet is a great bang for the buck. Probably one of the biggest. I thought it was refreshing and you were not afraid to give them such a good review, knowing you review many of the more expensive tools.
I have the straight ratchet and it is great. My favorite ratchets have become the Pittsburgh swivel roto heads. You have to check them on the shelf before you buy it. Some are very smooth and others are very chunky feeling.
Had 2 Dark 'N Stormy and played board games with the Boss until midnight made a toast. I guess I am just over the mass party thing anymore. Easier to relax and enjoy... for the price i can't knock the Pittsburgh ratchets, grabbed a couple cheap ones for odd use with when uo in the bucket. Haven't failed me yet .
Happy New Year Jeff! I’ll bet your New Year resolution is to buy more ratchets! I’ve got a couple Pittsburgh ratchets but the backward reverse lever is a non starter for me. I don’t want to be thinking about it when I’m working on something. Thanks for sharing!
I have the 1/4" Pittsburgh pro flex head - I agree, Love it! I took it apart and cleaned it and lubed it with Superlube as soon as I got it-made it even smoother! I don't have near as many as you, but it is my go-to 1/4" ratchet.
Happy New Year's, Jeff. Rang in the new year actually watching some TH-cam videos just relaxing because I work late so I had just got home and was winding down before bed. Probably watched one or two of your videos. For me, my work horses are craftsman pass-through ratchets. My dad got me a set about 14 or 15 years ago. They don't even make them anymore but they are great ratchets got a 3/8 and a quarter inch in a nice blow moulded plastic case they're my keep in the car and around the house for anything you might need Set also, I take them to the junkyard every time I go
The Pittsburgh pro ratchet is essentially a copy of the standard 24 tooth Plomb/Proto ratchet that has been around prior to ww2 with dual swing pawls. The Pittsburgh ratchets just have 72 teeth. It’s a great design why try to reinvent the wheel there’s no need.
Happy New Year Jeff! I hope you have a fantastic 2025! I never have gotten around to my ratchet/socket shootout - we moved and have had some big things in the regular life, so just no time (or clear space 🤣) to do something with so many details. Glad to see you're still making vids on the reg. Cheers!
Your gonna have to skip the Friday matco giveaway and go straight to the 10k subscribers, congrats on growing Jeff, we all appreciate all the time you put into your channel
I love my older Pittsburgh Pro's, wish I could find more due to like you said being that good. The newer green ones just aren't quite to the level those reds are.
Agreed. I just picked up the newer flexhead this weekend and it's tight and very user friendly. Price is great too. Great video share Jeff. Thanks and keep em comin
Absolutely love your ratchet videos!! Out of my 45 ratchets Pittsburgh pro is my go to ratchet also... thanks for this review. Happy new year and may you have an awesome 2025... Keep up the great work Jeff!!!
I put the flex head on a 19-inch crafstman breaker bar handle and I cant believe how much I like the ratchet. It cranked off 23 year old stock ball joints on my wj. It still works great.
I bought 3 ratchets back in the day at a farm show here in Nebraska. They're extendable 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. Similar to like the EZReds. I've had them years, and they've exceeded the abuse ive given them. I shouldve bout them for work and i wouldve only needed 3.
Count me in Buddy! Love the collection.
Been sober a long time. At 44 it feels great to wake up and feel good. Appreciate the channel Jeff!
Im going on 4 yrs sober
@ me? almost a year.. that’s a long time to me :) 4 years sounds like a lifetime.
I thank God for every day I even wake up now. It's been around 7 to 8 years. I could say that it gets easier, but I think the Lord just gave me a stouter back to shoulder the weight with.
About 11 yrs for me😊
Just passed 7yrs without a drink. Waking up knowing how I got there is the part that keeps me going. Happy New year and take it a day at a time and the days start to add up.
I've has both of 'em for a few years and I like them too. I also luv the older series Pittsburgh composite ratchets (black & grey) for working in cold weather.
Those are nice ratchets. Hard to beat the value there.
Person: So Jeff, how many ratchets have you got?
Jeff: ...Yes.
All of them, is the correct answer. 😄
I love it racoon!!!!

Thanks my friend for joining in and sharing your take on it!!
I think Pittsburgh tools are underrated. I was very happy when they put one in my area.
Surprised me with this one Jeff!! Might have to take a gander at them next time I’m at HF!
Yea its a hidden gem!! i think thier green handles now!!
I like purple!
Great info and surprising! You must be an expert on all ratchets! Thank you!
Barney Purple, yippie.
That matco would look good sitting in my box!!
Reliable tools are what most people need. The affordable price and lifetime warranty seal the deal. Happy New Year, Jeff!
Execelente colección maravillosos ratchet y execelente programa saludos desde México 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
the fully extended drawers full of ratchets is a great background for this video, picking out two to talk about is impressive
Thank you my friend,much apprecisted!!
Harbor freight is one of my favorite stores!
And you can service them too! I appreciate a cheap ratchet that you can lubricate or fix if you break it. Yeah i know you can warranty them but what’s the fun in that? Happy New Year Jeff!
Is harbor freight selling rebuild kits now?
@@Roger_Iccethat’s a good point, they probably aren’t

Hi lieser yea,and you cant try out Icon in the store, thier sealed up in a box, which sucks!! Happy New Year lieser!!
My go-to is the composite one. Even lighter, they are in comparison to the ones you are showing. Now they have it in high visibility green.
Agree with you, I have the Pittsburg composite 1/4” ratchet with the high vis green and I really like it. Very smooth
Jeff, Happy New Year to you and Gail. I'm still smiling about that skit you did with Gail and her changing her own oil because you hadn't done it yet. Looking forward to 2025. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂

I am loyal to no one single brand!! HF has some hidden gems, for sure!!! thanks josh for joining in!!
Hi Jeff, Pittsburgh ratchets are not bad for the price. I own all the flex head ratchet and haven't broken one yet, Happy New Year 🎉 Jeff 👍
Great video Jeff. I have the majority of the Pittsburgh ratchets and I'm really impressed with them. The back drag is extremely low on all but one. Harbor Fright is definitely my favorite store. That's good to know that they are Great thanks Jeff
Pittsburgh ratchets for the price and warranty is very hard to beat, very under rated

Can never have enough 😅
Wife : Don’t you have that one already
Me : No this one does something different 😅
I love these too, I have the flex head in 1/4 and 3/8. I don’t have a 1/2 inch yet, but they don’t sell them in the store anymore. I’ve been keeping my eyes open in the pawn shops and yard sales. One will eventually turn up. Happy new year everyone.

The tool that helps you get the job done is typically the one you keep.
I would love that ratchet!! Awesome video.
I have the straight ratchet and it is great. My favorite ratchets have become the Pittsburgh swivel roto heads. You have to check them on the shelf before you buy it. Some are very smooth and others are very chunky feeling.
I hear ya about thier roto heads!! thanks brent!!
I love the low profile Pittsburghs. Super smooth and very low backdrag.
You will never have a situation where you don’t have the right ratchet hahaha love the videos
That is a good looking ratchet. Mr Jeff
Would love to see a English brand called sealey black series lock on sockets they are amazing for the price😊
I have some Pittsburgh tools. I can tell you I don't like the combination wrenches. The small ratchets are not terrible. Happy new year Jeff.
I’ve bought plenty of Pittsburgh tools and absolutely no complaints. Probably the only way I would use a Matco is winning one from you.
Thank you chris for joining in!!
They work great and they have a very low profile
I agree david!! thanks for joining in!!
Pitssburgh is now on my radar!
Love the matco ratchet!
I belive Pittsburgh is great for the DIYer . Great video and awesome ratchet collection you got
Hey Jeff. Always enjoy watching your channel. Keep up the good work.
Crazy selection of ratchets.
I just got the slim head it impressed me. I think that is smoother then anyother budget ratchet I have came across
Happy New Year Jeff! I’ll bet your New Year resolution is to buy more ratchets! I’ve got a couple Pittsburgh ratchets but the backward reverse lever is a non starter for me. I don’t want to be thinking about it when I’m working on something. Thanks for sharing!
Hi chip i understand,it takes sometime to get used to being backwards!!
I have the 1/4" Pittsburgh pro flex head - I agree, Love it! I took it apart and cleaned it and lubed it with Superlube as soon as I got it-made it even smoother! I don't have near as many as you, but it is my go-to 1/4" ratchet.

Love those Matco ratchets.
They are fantastic, very durable, thanks for joining in!
Happy New Year, Jeff!
I'd like to see a review of the 72 tooth hyper tough ratchets from walmart. They seem okay for the price fiddling around at the store.
Just put them on the list, thanks ben for the suggestion!!
Boy I hear you!! Thanks for sharing your experience!!
I like those 2 1/4 and the long 3/8 are my favorite from Pittsburgh
Love the Matco ratchet
My favorite ratchet is the one I can find.
That will work, lol!! thank you pete!!
Im actually not surprised. I snagged one in a pinch and still use it.
You can never have enough ratchets
Ditto Luis, I'm passing 275 this week.
Love the purple!
Its purty!!!! thanks joe!!
Happy New Year Jeff! I hope you have a fantastic 2025! Thats a awesome story durant, thanks for sharing!!
Jeff, never thought of a ratchet as a work horse.
