I wouldn't include Nightmare of Decay in this kind of video because it seems like it was intentionally made to be a short "greatest hits" collection of other horror game moments and concepts melded into one campaign. It doesn't really have a story or any sort of world building of its own like the other examples you mentioned, so it can just be appreciated as a sort of buffet of horror game concepts.
I mean... Last Faith is a LOT more old-school castlevania melded with bloodborne than it is Blasphemous. Just because religion is also a central theme doesnt mean its a rip-off, since the twist is that humanity was tricked into worshipping the worlds anti-Christ figure instead of a real Messiah.
Imagine creating things that already exist. That's literally how our mind works based on previous experience. I guess straying from the formula can create something unique, but including familiar things, or so called "nostalgia" is like paying tribute to the game that it was inspired by. Author gives far fetched arguments and too emotional about games using the same ideas. Nothing is original, it was already created before us.
hey, you shoud play the fear and hunger series, it combines elements of dark souls, berserk, and silent hill. It is made in RPG maker, which might be a turnoff, but it is by far the BEST designed game made with RPG maker. It is an amazing game with a great story(especially the second game). It also has really really good atmosphere for a 2d game. The sound design in great. The lore is really interesting and it was only made by one guy named miro. The first game has better atmosphere and has more unique combat, but the second game has a better story and is a better game overall.
