Another reason they don't work together is that Robin had waaaay more chemistry with Barney and she was so heartbroken when Barney went back to be a player when they decided to split, Robin was in love with Barney not Ted! And I don't get why building an entire season on a marriage that they planned to destroy I also think it's not realistic Barney realized he loved Robin but they destroyed his character development to force the Ted&Robin finale!
Get over it in a world where fans always got what they wanted in early 2010 this show did the end they wanted to do and had the balls to stick with it. Ted had the book ending romance he always wanted, Robin went on to achieve her dreams, their roads ended crossing and they got together close to their 50s.
