Thanks to this video, I mounted a reactor pro size 5 plate (instead of the recommended size 7) on a size 7 Moxi Lolly boot. I had previously skated on the stock Powerdyne Thrust plate, which has a 149mm wheelbase. The size 5 reactor plate has a 150mm wheelbase, so I'm still super agile and can dance skate as well as go to the park. I was worried that I would feel less stable with the short back mount, but I've dropped in on a mini ramp and have had no problems doing everything else I used to do on the Thrust plates. The metal plate is just super responsive and agile, and not too heavy. If you're someone that is into dance skating as well as park skating, I would recommend giving the smaller plate size a try! Especially if you're used to a certain wheelbase anyway :) Thanks for this video!!

Thanks for this detailed explanation. I wish I saw this before buying my skates. I bought a pair of CCM Hockey boots that had a shorter plate added to them ( not sure of the size) but they were short to the ones I had previously. I got used to them eventually and then bought a pair of flaneurz skates. These are really nice but the plate is longer than the CCM. If I had known I would've asked for a shorter plate.
Amazing video, I'm at year 3 now and thinking of going for the 45 degree angle next to test. I was worried about liking it so much I'd hate a 10 degree but seems like, I could still prefer 10 degree to streets skate if I like the 45 to dance 😅

OK, Thinking about buying a pair of skates and go back to skating. I did it for 6 years recreationally indoor (dance and jam skating) with a lot of lessons but never competed. This time I will go all out buying a pair. I always had cheap skates and spins were a nightmare. I think it was due to horrible plates and having NO IDEA of what your video here just explained!!!! I will watch the rest of your videos and I did subscribe too. I will have to descide what size plates, where they should be mounted and if I should get a wide boot or not beforehand?
That’s great! I’m always a fan of having all the information before buying. If you’re going to a skate shop to look at options, the sales staff should be able to make recommendations too! Arius plates are different design from the ones I show here - they use butterfly cushions instead of barrel/cone cushions and don’t have kingpins. I’ve never tried them so I’m afraid I can share my own experiences about that particular plate.
I am seriously considering mounting my new magnesium plates onto my new Jack boots....I’m handy and not a dolt, but am I crazy for thinking I can mount these myself? I used to fix my 1964 Ford truck....

Great Vid. Thanks. 👍❤😁 Are Avenger or Avanti plates really more wobbly? I know you can turn sharper on them. ....also, do you place the rear wheel centre right in the middle of your heel if you want to stand up straight? Had many skates over the years, always fitted (often very poorly) by a shop (here in the U.K.) so thought I might choose and fit my own this time. 😁
The higher the kingpin degree, the more agile you can be. But agility can also be controlled with your cushions/action. If your skates feel wobbly/unstable, that’s an action issue, not a kingpin angle issue. I like the back axle to line up with my ankle bone.
Thank you so much. I've been thinking about getting a different plate when I buy some moxi lollys in the future. And I didn't really know where to start. Very helpful. No nylon plates? Was that a coincidence or do you not like them as much?
Nylon plates tend to be less responsive. My first derby setup and my first lolly setup had nylon plates that I eventually upgraded. They're fine for starting out until you know what you want. The great thing about roller skates is when you find a quality boot, you can upgrade all the other parts and pieces as much as you want.
Hi Cherri! Thanks for this video. Does your son have wide trucks and/or a slide block on this Avenger plate? I am hoping to plan ahead a little and ensure that I can continue setting up my skates to fit my needs, but I don't see much out there in terms of content around the Avenger D45 plate. Thanks for any help you can give!
Hi! I haven’t seen a compatible wide truck for a 45 yet (which is why my lad is getting new plates for Christmas 🤫😉) Bont came out with Discotrux which are a wide truck with adjustable pivot pins. But I’m not sure if the geometry will work with Avenger. Bont is pretty responsive via email, I’d give them a shout and ask!
Plate angles are fixed, as far as I know. To change the kingpin angle would require a new tap into the plate at a different angle. However I’m concerned your kingpin isn’t clearing the ground - 57mm aren’t that small of a wheel. Have you checked whether your kingpin is screwed into the plate properly? I know of other skaters who have had similar problems and it was because their kingpin was loose.
I have a roll line variant and couldn't use fomac 45mm wheels on them although roller bones 57s were fine. 45s work great on powerdyne reactor pro though. I'm looking at the roll line killer plate for my next upgrade, I hope they are ok with a least 57s.
Thanks for this useful summary. The piece of the jigsaw that I am still missing though is what makes one plate more suitable for a particular style of skating, and not another? In other words, why have you selected the three different makes/models for park, dance and derby. If you could get the same angle and wheelbase, would the derby ones be as suitable for dance, or vice versa? If not, why?
@@davidjones2624 sorry I missed a bunch of messages and I’m just getting caught up. My derby derby plate is positioned more forward because I skate in a low, forward position. I can dance in them, but the forward position of the rear wheel would require me to make some balance adjustments. Could I play derby in my dance setup? Sure! But I would have to adjust to make sure it don’t “tip forward” with the rear short mount. There are many who have one setup and it works for all their skating disciplines! That’s perfectly fine! That’s how I started with by blue suede skates (I skate-parked and rollerdanced in them). Hope that clarifies.

Hi! I'm not a Snyder expert. Rollerskate Universe did a detailed unboxing of the Snyder Advantage here. th-cam.com/video/GcH1HfBBl3Q/w-d-xo.html NTS means no toe stop. If it's not indicated as an NTS, then you can expect a US-thread toe stop. It uses a toe stop set screw to secure it. Prices vary. Rollerskatin.ca carries three models. rollerskatin.ca/products/plates/snyder-super-deluxe-plate-detail rollerskatin.ca/products/plates/snyder-imperial-plate-detail rollerskatin.ca/products/plates/snyder-advantage-plate-detail Lite version is just another model within Snyder. It's actually an upgrade, I believe where parts get swapped out for lighter versions. This website has some good descriptions. www.theultimateskatesupply.com/index.aspx?pageid=114676&category=82741&Page=3&sort=name Hope that helps
Hello! I love your Instagram and just stumbled on this. I am looking into replacing my plates and self mounting them. What kind of plates do you have on your dance set up?
Hi! They are Snyder Royal plates and I had a friend machine thee toe stops off for me. I don't believe they are currently being manufactured, but they come up on sale sites every once in a while. If you're looking for a new dance specific plate, RollLine is definitely worth a look. I've never used them, but many of my dancing friends highly recommend them.
I started in derby a year and a half ago then all shut down. Girls and I now trail skate 3-5 days a week anywhere between 8-20 miles per skate. I’m in my derby skates, but thinking I should get something with a slight heel? Using competitive quality derby skates. Should my weight be focused on the ball of my foot?
Derby skates are actually better for long distance and speed skating. I don’t get near the same speed in my high boots as I do for my low boots. I find the heel is helpful for dance, keeping my weight forward, but there’s lots of other skaters how dance in flat shoes. So I think it’s personal preference depending on what you want your skating experience to be!
i got an avenger plate for rhythm skating?! i do a lot of pivots & im trying to improve footwork. so how do we feel about that plate for that? i was really drawn to the plate & i looked at reviews saying they are very reactive so i feel like that seems promising???
Tia B it’s a Synder Royal but I had the toe stops machined off. I believe it’s a discontinued-but-still-available plate. You can also buy this plate NTS if you want to go in that direction!
I have the same derby skate setup and am going to have Parkstars mounted. Do you have a pic of the bottom ball of the foot to shoe where the 2 bolts are attached? It’s a bit hard to see with the toe guard.
@@biancha777 aluminum plates are more responsive in general. But I’ve heard amazing things about Sunlite - to the point that I’m planning for that plate on my next setup. I’ve talked to a few park skaters who sweat by them - the plate has a lifetime warranty and work well with wide trucks. I was worried about nylon “flexing” but have also read that installing sliders create more stability. Hope that sparks some ideas! Right now the popular park plates (in my skating circles) are Avanti mag and Sunlites - likely due to their wide truck compatibility.
Are you talking a figure (high heeled) boot? You could - I’m not sure what the responsiveness would feel like. The only limitation would be whether the rear plate holes reach the heel for proper drilling. I’ve done a short forward on a small (1/4”) heeled skate and had to adjust my plate position to make sure the bolts were not too close to the heel edge. Hope that makes sense!
Have you done a video on wheels? I am thinking about getting back into roller skating. I skated from 1990 until 2002 then the seen here in Atlanta got lame so I quit. Now I think I am ready to get back into it. My old skate was a ridale boot I forgot the plate but I rolled bones 62mm I think. Whats the new hotness as far as wheels today whats good?
Custom typically refers to specialty sizing, colours and finishes and are built by the manufacturer. Most skate shops offer full setups ready to go. But some also offer boot-only options that you can choose your preferred plate.

I have a question about your avenger plate?! I’m considering them and I prefer rhythm skating. I like the angles on them for deep turn response and spins. I’m trying to figure out if they are the direction I should head in. Any advice would be awesome! Thank you.
I've never tried them as a dance plate, but I'm pretty sure I would enjoy them. I find they are more "squirrelly" than other plates, so I would probably go with a harder cushion to compensate. (Right now I roll soft cushions for derby). Hope that sparks some ideas!

@@MartinaakaCherri Im a expert in skating I need a really good plate but a color one for style
This was super helpful, thanks!!
Cheri, i am interested in the snyder royal but i cant find many videos on it. I looked on line. What is nts version? What is lite version? What versions have the toe stop? What type of toe stop? The one with the wrench adjustment or the nut adjustment? What are the prices for each kind?
Plz help. Do a detailed video for me. The website info is not direct. There is no direct snyder royal video
Hi! I'm not a Snyder expert. Rollerskate Universe did a detailed unboxing of the Snyder Advantage here.
th-cam.com/video/GcH1HfBBl3Q/w-d-xo.html
NTS means no toe stop. If it's not indicated as an NTS, then you can expect a US-thread toe stop. It uses a toe stop set screw to secure it. Prices vary. Rollerskatin.ca carries three models.

Lite version is just another model within Snyder. It's actually an upgrade, I believe where parts get swapped out for lighter versions. This website has some good descriptions.

Thank you for taking the time to make this, this topic isn't talked about enough and is evidently crucial to enjoying the roller skating experience.
I've learned a lot! Than you! You are great!
And thank you!!! :)
Awesome, thank you! I'm laid up on a broken leg so I figured now is a good time to update.
@@MartinaakaCherri Thank you so much!
i got an avenger plate for rhythm skating?! i do a lot of pivots & im trying to improve footwork. so how do we feel about that plate for that? i was really drawn to the plate & i looked at reviews saying they are very reactive so i feel like that seems promising???
This is so helpful, thank you!!
Noob question, if I just want to replace my current skate plates with a different size, what do I do with the empty holes?
this video is amazing! what is the plate on you dance skate? im trying to find a great one for dance/jam x
Tia B it’s a Synder Royal but I had the toe stops machined off. I believe it’s a discontinued-but-still-available plate. You can also buy this plate NTS if you want to go in that direction!
@@MartinaakaCherri thank you!
@@MartinaakaCherri Snider? Haven't seen those in ages! That's pretty awesome!

Do you have a video about material?
I don't - but I have links in the description with more info on plates. Do you have a specific question? I might be able to help!
What plate is on your dance boot
Snyder Royal
I have the same derby skate setup and am going to have Parkstars mounted. Do you have a pic of the bottom ball of the foot to shoe where the 2 bolts are attached? It’s a bit hard to see with the toe guard.
I’m a little confused. Are you needing to see the nuts and how they’re attached to the boot?
I have various pics of my setups if you scroll through my IG timeline @rollerskatelethbridge. You may see what you’re looking for there?
can you recommend ... good where is the nylon frame plate with steel / alloy frame plate. In terms of durability and comfort
Sorry, can you rephrase your question? I’m not sure what you’re asking
@@MartinaakaCherri Which frame / plate is better for quadskate between aluminum alloy and Sunlite plate in terms of strength and comfort.
Is it possible to have a short/forward mount on a boot with a heel?
Are you talking a figure (high heeled) boot? You could - I’m not sure what the responsiveness would feel like. The only limitation would be whether the rear plate holes reach the heel for proper drilling. I’ve done a short forward on a small (1/4”) heeled skate and had to adjust my plate position to make sure the bolts were not too close to the heel edge. Hope that makes sense!
Great content, subscribed 😎
Have you done a video on wheels? I am thinking about getting back into roller skating. I skated from 1990 until 2002 then the seen here in Atlanta got lame so I quit. Now I think I am ready to get back into it. My old skate was a ridale boot I forgot the plate but I rolled bones 62mm I think. Whats the new hotness as far as wheels today whats good?

You’re my favorite mom....aside from me and mine.
This was really really helpful!! Thank youuu
How do we go about purchasing custom skates? Do to ppl typically purchase everything separately and then build them, or can you customize them online
Custom typically refers to specialty sizing, colours and finishes and are built by the manufacturer. Most skate shops offer full setups ready to go. But some also offer boot-only options that you can choose your preferred plate.
Love your videos! 🤍 just for guidance... what’s your boot size? 6?
Yes, I'm am a boot size 6 (based on Riedell US sizing, my street shoe size is a 7.5-8)
I'm Cherri! Let's Skate! Thank you!!! I bought a pair of skates over a year ago... ir always felt awkward... thanks to your video I realized the axle was positioned on the arch of my foot!!! 😭 thank you!!! We are the same boot size! This is great guidance!!! Thank you!!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Fascinating!
Should beginners get high-angle skates?
I have a question about your avenger plate?! I’m considering them and I prefer rhythm skating. I like the angles on them for deep turn response and spins. I’m trying to figure out if they are the direction I should head in. Any advice would be awesome! Thank you.
I've never tried them as a dance plate, but I'm pretty sure I would enjoy them. I find they are more "squirrelly" than other plates, so I would probably go with a harder cushion to compensate. (Right now I roll soft cushions for derby). Hope that sparks some ideas!
@@MartinaakaCherri okay thank you! Gives me more perspective!
What plate is on your dance set up?
Marician Dedeaux it’s a Snyder Royal. They were used plates and I had a friend machine the toe stop off for me.
Great video
Who mounted every one of your plates?
My derby boots were mounted by a friend of mine. I did the other boots.
What plate is used on your dance skate?... You park skate plate looks like a PowerDyne but Im not familiar with the one on your dance boot
Hi! It's a Snyder Royal plate. They aren't actively manufactured anymore, but you can still find them around! And yes, my park skate has a Reactor Neo plate.
Hi Sharri I'm Irene aka Luna and I would love to skate 🤗🧿🤗
