@@TheTrainboard interesting we consider big freight steamers with lots of external pipes and vessels to be ‘beautiful’. Yet we say the same of streamlined passenger steamers of the same period. I value the unshrouded with all of separately applied pipes higher for their increased manufacturing cost. Thanks for the comment
It's all about the details. Prototypical piping, curtains, opening hatches, drop plates, lighting and sounds. This is a great looking AND sounding model. Lucky to have added it to my roster for a reasonable amount.
Happy Thanksgiving Twisted! Yes, a fire breathing beast. Got her a few months ago and recently won a JLC Allegheny auction. Look for a comparison to ‘Premier’ soon.
I first saw this engine on Sid's Trains. Fell in love with the pyramid catwalk on the fireman side. AND it has a Vanderbilt tender. A must for any C&O fan. Thanks for the comment. H8 next....
JLC models from the early 2000's set the standard for detailing and quality. Later Legacy models are a spin off from the JLC series. In fact, the last JLC model was the Big Boy with the then new "Legacy" electronics. It did not have whistle steam as that feature had yet to be created. You have a beautiful model here, I believe the H7 was either the most detailed or nearly most detailed of the entire series. It looks like a scale brass model!!
I would like to see a comparison between the JLC and new Legacy H7. Wonder if the new one has the same level of detail as old. I appreciate your perspective. I'm just glad I found one in a railroad I collect. Now have a H6, 7, & 8. Glad I my new layout has a min O72 loop.
@@99thObsidian They do, the detailing is the same. There may be some frame and mounting re-designing however. I have both a JLC Y6b and a Legacy Y6b. Lionel reconfigured the mounting underneath the front of the boiler so it no longer acted like a SeeSaw in the front wheels of the back engine. They added a weight bearing mount more like a Sunset 3rd Rail model which stabilized the boiler so that was an improvement over the earlier JLC model.
JLC's are awesome! That is one big, beautiful beast! Congrats, Ken!

Man that thing is gorgeous! Those cab curtains and other details are A1

THIS IS PART 2. th-cam.com/video/Z0wIizakXWE/w-d-xo.html 😉🙂 KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK MY BRUTHA. 👍👍
I love articulateds. I'd like a Big Boy but I'm TRYING to stick to VA & Potomac river railroads. Perhaps a Virginian triplex...
