Actually sucks, for the amount of money you're paying the screen is super slow. The engine is godly awful, not even a damn turbo. The transmission feels outdated. Glad i sold my ND2 a few years back.
@@VuBeClan The engine is not godly awful when you're getting 180hp out of a N/A 2.0L. The transmission is notchy, but people generally prefer that older feel, considering when it's not breaking it's not an issue. Most car infotainment sucks, but Mazda's isn't bad. Not even a problem when everyone uses Android Auto / Carplay anyways... Miata is always the answer, but you may not be right for a Miata.
As someone who took delivery of their ND2 RF Club the week before the ND3 was announced and just hit one year of ownership... still no regrets. Go buy your ND3 RIGHT NOW, you will love it, you will not regret it, make a statement with your money that these are the type of cars we still want. Glad to see you in a ND, and yes, you nailed it - the ND is perfect if you dont have the time or space to be wrenching on an old car, not to mention the prices for used NA/NB/NCs is climbing every day. You get all of the refinement of 30+ years of R&D with the core miata spirit still completely intact... but with a lot more beans under the hood! If you're not taking it to the track, it comes from the factory in a perfect configuration (alignment and exhaust volume be damned). Seriously people, go get yours, get it in manual, and love every second of it.
I can 100% vouch for the 1-on-1 video calls. Got some super good advice for my build (first time turbo build on my own car). Put a little effort into compiling the info about your build, and send it to him before the meeting to make everybody’s time worth while. 100% worth it! Saved me from making some stupid first-timer mistakes 😂
Miata dad always comes through. He patiently listens to me panic about my sudden electrical gremlins and totally failure to idle…. Then calmly says “tighten the alternator belt and add some fuel in those 4 cells” …..solving all my problems immediately. You’re my hero bro.
I recently bought an ND3 after 4 years of owning an NB and 3 years of owning a Lotus Elise. While I still love hardcore cars, I've hit the typical point in life where I can enjoy a 75% car more than something with less compromises. There are definitely things I'd like to touch on the ND3, but I'm so pleased with it out of the box. It's amazing something like this is still sold today. Good idea to have such a video!
Great review, I almost bought one ND a few years ago but I needed a car for my wife so instead I bought a Mazda cx3 and it's been the best daily apart of my 95 Miata.
Gave you a like on this vid, but not for why you'd think. I did it for you waving to the person who let you buy on the road. It's such a simple gesture and goes a long way. I always try to show my gratitude when someone does something nice for me. When people don't feel appreciated they stop going out of their way to be nice. Cheers to you!
I have a RF grand touring. Very fun car. Fun to get in and out of but driving it is very enjoyable. I've had fast cars before but this one is more fun. Love that mazda has stayed true to these cars.
I consider myself an N/A guy. I drove an ND3 because I was recommending one for my mom. But I absolutely LOVED it!! N/A fun, N/A light but new car nice. Long story short I just took delivery of my ND3 Club! Averaging 32 mpg making my 80 mile commute. And 1/2 of that is backroad fun driving. Anyone want a clean 96 N/A and a down and dirty 93 N/A?
I just picked up the exact same car but in Soul Red. On the road it has enough horsepower, track no. I have some friends who have things like a GT3 RS and GT2, they have so much BHP they are intimidating on the road. As they say it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. The MX5 does have more body roll than I like, but as you said easy to fix with some sway bars.
I test drove a '17 NDRF and very, VERY nearly traded it for the '17 Wrangler JK I was driving at the time in late 2021, it only came down to credit problems thanks to COVID, otherwise I'd be driving it instead of a '15 Tacoma, which I love almost as much. Mind you, I owned a '96 NA since 2017 which I've daily driven on days where the roads weren't salted (Pennsylvania). I broke my original soft top cause I wanted to go top-down at 45F, and continued to do so.. Basically, NDs are the shit
If you are a fan of Miatas and like modern cars with all the tech...this car is for you. I've driven several of them and the whole feel is just numb and disconnected. I like the vibrations and notchy shifter in my NA. The ND is a fun little car, but new cars don't excite me.
To avoid having the car jump forward when you shift quickly, as the revs drop, you can slip the clutch to make them drop faster, then at the last second you get on full throttle right as the revs get down low enough and the clutch is fully let out. If you get on throttle and dump the clutch too early then the car will jump forward and it's harder on the clutch. Takes some practice but feels really nice, and it's easier on the components 🙂
I feel the same way between my NB and ND when pushing them in the canyons. The NB with 225 RT660s and just about ~200 whp right now can actually be a little frightening at times whereas my stock (just sway bars) ND is really easy to push and drive hard. Great review Greg!
I've met a lot of people who want an NA, but I usually end up steering them towards the ND. Driving it you wouldn't believe how faithful a modern car can be to the spirit of its whimsical ancestor designed over 30 years ago. Don't get my wrong, the NA is beautiful and timeless-looking, but the ND is better in every measurable way. Honestly, my biggest issue with the NA isn't even the slow acceleration, but rather the wet noodle chassis if you run them without a hardtop. You definitely have to spend a ton of cash to get an NA to perform comparably to a stock ND, and unless you really love the classic looks, I just don't think it's worth it for most people. That being said, it's nice there's still a proper drivers car you can buy in 2024 that is price comparable to the NA when it was new, adjusted for inflation. And don't sleep on the NC either. It's still lighter than most, has a good drivetrain, and actually has a lot of styling borrowed from the OG NA and isn't just another angry-looking face. It's also the best for tall people.
Saying the ND is "better in every measurable way" kinda misses the whole point of the Miata. The best things about it are *not* measurable. On my test drive of my clapped-out NB, I fell in love and still have it eight years later. I decided to rebuild the engine even though it makes no financial sense. I even bought an NC PRHT and then sold it. Excellent car, but no match for the pure joy of the NB. I've only driven one NA (a tired bone-stock 1990) and it was a softer, more flexy, and a LOT slower version of my NB. Also test drove an ND2 RF. Great car, pretty similar to my NC, but felt....boring compared to the NA/NB. I agree with you that most people that want a Miata should get an ND (or a late NC) because most people don't want project cars. They want something they can just drive. For those of us that can tolerate a project car, it's NB all the way for me. Specific things I didn't like about the NC/ND compared to the NA/NB: high door sills, drive-by-wire, and general disconnected feeling from the main controls.
Interesting. I rarely run into people who would cross shop NA and ND. Normally it comes down to NA vs NB or NC vs ND since people's income usually factors
Hey Greg. I had a quick question to ask. How do you feel about Walter Motorsports rebuilt transmissions and are they worth it compared to other alternatives? Currently looking to do a VVT swap
I have 2 miatas right now, a 94 stock NA miata, and a 2004 Mazdaspeed miata making 210 whp. The problem is I love my 94 way more than my turbo MSM and i've been considering getting rid of it for something newer, possibly a white ND RF. Any thoughts?
Last November I picked up a mazda 3 turbo carbon in that color as my dad car. I love that thing man. I pushed it real hard in the mountains on NC and it's real close to my old na. i kind of want a 24 Miata now to match
I know the amount of car you can get with throwing 40k in parts at an NA Miata is unparalleled, but would you ever consider picking up an ND for yourself in the future?
@@mascot7114 Yes, I definitely would. I've driven three ND's that were relatively modified and they were incredibly fun. (A 215whp supercharged ND1, a FBO/E85 ND1, and a FBO/Tuned ND2) Out of the box they're a bit soft and a bit slow, but I think a set of super 200's, coilovers and a lively exhaust (just for the driving experience) would really transform the car.
