PTSD is brutal. It’s like taking anxiety disorder and depression, blending them together and then cranking the volume to 10. ..and there’s a lesser known type of PTSD called “Complex PTSD”. It stems from repeated trauma rather than isolated traumatic events.
With CPTSD, in addition to the depression and anxiety, your brain is in fight or flight mode 24/7, so to cope it will “disassociate” and take you out of reality.

@@LarryLawtonJewelThief I know I'm late to the party on this one, but you mentioned towards the end of the video that you worry about what you're capable of and I thought it was important to respond.
Your knowledge (of how you would react) is from relevant experience, not your personality. People who have been in traumatic life-or-death situations have direct experience of what they would do in intensely frightening situations. For you, that was prison and the criminal world. For others, they have the same reactions from serving in the armed forces, or high risk parts of the emergency services.
I know that you have PTSD so, as an ED/ER doc and a veteran myself, I thought it important to reassure you that knowing what you are capable of does not make you a monster, it makes you a human being who has lived through traumatic experiences.
      Take care 👍

Thanks for sharing your stories Larry. I'm in Canada and our prison system here is a whole different ball game. I know you're looking for some prison reform, but we've gone too far the other way. I'm curious on your take, I believe the prison system and justice system are overwhelmed and underprepared for the widespread closing of asylums. I truly believe there are people that need to be under constant supervised psychiatric care. Your shirt, "No bad people, Bad decisions" can't be applied to everyone. Some folks don't know the difference. My 2 cents, but I think if they re-opened psychiatric facilities (asylums) there would be a better prison system and less of a homeless problem like you see in big cities all over the place.

1: Do you know any stories where a guy was beat/stabbed/raped/whatever, and reconciled with the attacker? How does that prison dynamic work because they're obviously not all fatal and not all of them are going to have retaliation.
2: Have you reconciled with the people you've attacked in prison? How was the relationship afterwards?

I remember this one story from a mouth I trust not to bs.
There was guy who decided to check out and to do so, he wanted it to be as dramatic as possible; he slit his wrist open with a shiv.
Thing is, apparently a few seconds after he did this, he grew cold feet.
So he began to bang on his cell door, screaming that he was bleeding, he needed help.
Nobody came... and apparently it wasn't like the guards wouldn't be able to hear him.
He kept banging on that door and screaming, but with each scream his voice grew weaker and weaker.
Last thing my friend said he heard was sobbing.
Then he was wheeled away in the morning.
Lesson? If you're thinking about checking out, think real fricking hard before you do so... and seek help... because no matter how lonely you think you are, there will be people who miss you.

Daniel Crenshaw (medically retired Navy Seal & now congressman) writes in his book that there is military medical evidence that enduring and surviving hardships and psychological trauma actually develop neuro-connections in the brain which wire your intelligence in multiple facets.
In other words, the wisdom, deeper thinking, and survival knowledge gained through your experience actually makes you more intelligent and adaptable for problem-solving situations. So don't beat yourself up too much :)
It occurs to me sometimes watching your content, to ask, did you ever think you would get out and have all these friends, fans, people who actually care that you are healthy, safe, happy, and free? I love your stories and wisdom. And thank you from society for sharing your experiences and for trying to help others through relating with us and spreading positivity in the world.

I think it’s important to mention how respectfully Larry talks about suicide. I’ve never seen him disparage anyone he’s mentioned committing suicide, he’s never called it “a cowards way out” or “selfish”, he only ever mentions it as what it is, tragic- that kind of empathy is very important in the discourse around this topic. Shaming people for having committed. Attempted, or considered suicide is just about the least helpful thing one can do. When you do that all it does is make people who are thinking about suicide feel ashamed which makes them more likely to avoid seeking help or telling someone what they are feeling. A little bit of empathy goes a long way, it saves lives every single day.

Never was in prison... But I have two sounds my brain remembers forever and a 3rd experience it blacked out:
1: The rattling wheese a dead body gave when it exhaled the breaths of air I blew in attempting mouth to mouth resuscitation. She didn't survive.
2: The hollow coconut-like "POK" sound of an old ladies skull hitting the concrete pavement as she fainted and her legs suddently gave in. she cracked her skull and there was so much blood. she didn't regain conciousness before the ambulance arrived... But I was told she survived after surgery...
3: Was jumped by 5 guys while walking home late at night. Next thing I remember was standing on the road with 4 stabwounds and a black and blue face... they were all gone... I cant remember anything but random feelings of having my own arms out infront of me trying to deflect what feels like a tornado of debree... I guess my brain was just in survival mode, using all computing power to react to incomin threats not even having time to store to memory. Before really having a chance the others came running.
No other interaction. No previous meetup or beef. I had all my belongings after that. My nortface backpack shouldderstrap had even stopped one sstab at my upper right chest.
I have no clue why. Best guess is that is was random "gang" initiation shit. Or maybe they wanted to rob me, but decided to let it go because things got too far without me giving up? Only they know, whoever they are... I'm just glad I woke up on that street and had no fatal wounds...

@@JokerInk-CustomBuilds Yea be glad that you didn't have a gun with you. It would most likely have escalated their violence because they'd actually feel you'd be a threat. So either you'd be dead, or you'd end up shooting one of them. Either way, more emotional trauma and drama.
Even if you feel you had all the right to mow them all down right then and there, in court there'd probably be some paperwork nutjob saying "you used excessive violence in defending your own life. You're going to jail". Even though it's nigh impossible for most people to control their anger in such a moment.
That's also the reason why they banned guns in most countries. No human is capable of bearing the consequences of a decision they made while holding a gun in their hands. It only takes a split second to pull that trigger and have years of consequences instead of some injuries and some emotional trauma because you couldn't win a 1 vs 5 fist and knife fight you didn't ask for. It can feel scary and unjust to not be able to defend yourself, but when you think about the consequences....you kinda have to be glad that you weren't too much of a threat to them and they let you go after they had their fill.

couldn't be more real. stay safe brother! Almost went away a few time I'm forever thankful I can listen to your stories instead of actually experiencing first hand. Glad you made it out alive first time I've watched your channel instant sub. keep up the positivity hope the youth can learn from your experiences so they don't have to go to prison themselves.
