    And so begins one of the greatest arcs not just in Clone Wars, but in all of Star Wars
    Also for the back in the day comment from Rex, they’ve been fighting in the Clone Wars for 3 years. For reference, Ahsoka was 14 when it started and 17 when it ends

    This is where the fun begins! One of the best arcs in the series. So, if you remember all the way back in season 2 with the "Senate Murders" arc, one of the senators murdered was Mee Deechi (the pale guy with white hair) from Umbara. That whole debacle led to Umbara withdrawing from the Republic and joining the Separatists. As you saw, the Umbarans have not only very different and advanced weapons, but very different tactics. This arc and the Umbarans' fighting style as a whole was inspired by the Vietnam War. A foreign army marching in against a tough and determined enemy on their home turf using guerilla tactics and traps since they can't take them head on. That whole feeling of "Hell on Earth" translates really well here.
    As for why Anakin left, he had become sort of the poster child for the Grand Army of the Republic and the face of Republic victory. Because of how the Umbarans fight, Palpatine believed that the Republic couldn't win on Umbara, so he asked the council to bring Anakin back in order to not have him tied to what he believed would be a very public and costly defeat for the Republic.
    Some returning characters: We get to see Fives again after the Citadel arc. We also get to see our friends Jesse (the one with the Republic logo on his helmet as well as tattooed on his face) and Hardcase (the crazy one with the rotary cannon) again. They first showed up in "The Deserter" where Rex gets shot and meets Cut Lawquane.
    We get introduced to a couple characters. The first one I'd bring attention to is Tup (the clone with the tear/water drop tattoo and pattern on his armor). He doesn't do too much to stand out here, but I'd remember his name, you never know when he might pop up again. We also get to meet General Pong Krell, one of the most hated characters in Star Wars. He is a Besalisk, a four armed species from the frozen planet Ojom. Our first look at the species is Dexter Jettster, the owner of Dex's Diner in Episode 2. Obi Wan takes the dart that killed Zam Wessell to him for more information. As for Krell, his attitude toward the clones is actually closer to what most Jedi were like with them in Legends and some still in Canon. He's more outwardly hostile, but many Jedi (especially in Legends) saw the clones more as tools then people. Jedi like Anakin, Obi-Wan (in canon), and Plo Koon (in canon) are in the minority of treating the clones like people.
    Well, this is only the beginning! Looking forward to how you guys like the rest of the arc. Keep up the great work 😄!

    Unfortunately, Krell isn’t necessarily an isolated incident. If you go into the lore of the Clone Wars, many Jedi had similar albeit less extreme views on clones and poor strategies due to inexperience (See the first battle of Geonosis). At least Anakin is perfectly willing to share the risk and lead from the front.

    • @samuelclayhills3298

    • @mr.stuffdoer8483
      @mr.stuffdoer8483 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah the one place TCW failed pretty hard is showing mistreatment of clones by the Jedi. Because due to spoilers, Krell is painted as being an outlier. The main other Jedi we see working with clones are cool. Plo Koon in particular saying they’re not expendable to him.
      Though Bad Batch picked up a bit of slack in the clone mistreatment department

    I can't wait for you guys to see this arc to the end. One of the best and more intense arcs. I have friends in the military and they loved this arc and found it very relatable. Also to answer the question of how long the Clone Wars lasted, about 4 years. This battle takes place somewhere in between so it's already been like a year and a half of galaxy wide conflict.

  • @Verebazs

    Fun fact: Senator Mee Deechi from 3x11 "Pursuit of Peace" and 2x15 "Senate Murders" was the represantive of Umbara in the Senate. It was his murder that ultimate led to the planet turning against the Republic and joining the Separatists.

    The Umbara arc is hailed, quite rightly, as one of the best of the entire franchise.
    the Clone Wars totals around 5 years of time, between the end of Attack of the Clones and the end of Revenge of the Sith, but that can feel like a very stretched out timeframe when you realise that is on a galactic scale with hundreds of shifting battlefronts going constantly and simultaneously. And once you take into account that the oldest clones by end of it all would only be roughly 15 years old, for them 5 years must feel like an incredibly long time indeed.

  • @yugioht42
    @yugioht42 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Umbara was a important separatist world. It was the first real world where the republic was at a serious disadvantage. It was also one of the first to have live enemies not droids. This battle actually forced the Jedi to alter a lot of training methods and question itself because a traitor was found on umbara. They also changed how they looked into themselves as they tried to weed out traitors.

    Welcome to the Vietnam arc. This is essentially the film Platoon in Star Wars. Way back before he even made his first film, George was mentored by Francis Ford Coppola. His latest film with a passion project that both he and George worked on for years called Apocalypse Now. Coppola is the man who talked George into making his Star Wars film. Anna such George left the production of Apocalypse Now really early on. Combined that with the massive problems in production and how much stress it was causing to his friend George was incredibly hesitant and he feared the worst for Star Wars that both these two movies were just never gonna get made or never gonna work. Well, the saying goes truth is stranger than fiction, and both films are going to prove to be major financial successes, despite all the issues that plagued them. This arc is a more or less an homage to a genre.

    In the military we had a saying "One negligent soldier can get a squad killed, but one negligent officer can get whole battalions killed." Pong Krell isn't negligent -- he's practically traitorous with how little he cares for the lives of the clones.

    The Thing is, Krell (The four forearm dude) isnt the exception but the standart of the Jedi in battle. They are not generals and dont have the experience. Anikain, Yoda, Plokoon are some of the only few, who not only fought at the very Fromt but also have more critical thinking when it comes to stratgyies in battle and its also the Reason why for example Anikain and Plokoon are loved amongst clones, because they are Jedi who can be a Soldier / General when they need to

    Boy is this one a doozy. This lays open the entire situation as stands in Revenge of the Sith, and this is where it starts. The noir episode where this started with the murdered senators pays forward to here, this is the first time we see how the combat looks like where basically there are no good guys. After losing their senator, the Umbarans have no reason to trust the Republic or the Separatists and unlike most places, their technology and hyper hostile homeworld allows them the luxury of picking and choosing who they engage with... and they don't have any friends.
    This is a direct homage to Apocalypse Now, and for a kid's show from ten years ago this one gets real dark real fast. Let's say Pong Krell is someone a lot of people love to hate. This also marks the return of some of the Irregulars, namely Fives, Hardcase and Jesse. The FNG is Tup, and he'll be one to watch too.
