Hard to find a scene much more sensual yet innocent, and romantic that this one. Great writing and delivery. Blair Brown's face could make a man's heart melt.

This show often took your breath away, but seldom more so than during these poetic interludes between Moss and Molly.

What a great scene. David Straithairn was amazing as Moss. I so much wish this show was available on DVD.

Extraordinary writing, camera work and acting..they just don't make 'em like this anymore.

Brilliant scene, wonderfully constructed & acted. The "reveal" (so to speak) at the end of Moss's Bergman anecdote, coming out of nowhere & completely taking Molly's breath away is a sheer pleasure... Nice touch in the reprise of "I have to get some bagels", which starts out as a frustrating, typically Moss, deflective banality & comes back, in the afterglow that his unexpected lyrical evocation leaves with Molly, as a welcomed way of rounding off an intensely romantic moment.

I think later in the episode, Moss mentioned getting "sesame feet" bagels as he was gazing at Molly.

A perfect description of a perfect scene. It was moments like this one that made the memory of this show lodge somewhere in your heart long after the details of particular episodes or storylines had faded from memory. Here's hoping we'll see it on Netflix or Hulu some day.

What a shame; they put so much crap on DVD, but this TV series is still locked away. I dated a girl who looked like Molly, lived like her and... left me with a broken heart.

For those who have forgotten or never watched, let me fill you in: Molly's dad had
died of a heart attack suddenly and she had gone to see a lawyer with her
sister and brother and mother. Her sister, Mimi was getting a divorce and
her brother Dwight was living in a tepee in a indian reservation.

New Year's Resolution - going thru our dvd/vhs collection to weed things out. So this morning I come across 2 Beta tapes of the series that I must have recorded off of T.V. I can't believe I still have them. The clips you posted are many of the scenes I remember watching in high school/college. ( LOVE MOSS!) My mother didn't really approve of me watching the show at the time so I'm curious to watch it now that I'm older than Molly (I'm 43 now...) and have a different perspective on things. Thanks for your posts. Maybe I'll look into getting the beta tapes converted, if that's even possible.

I was 10 when it debuted, and watched it with my mother, we loved it. I only got to see the 1st season, we couldn't afford cable.

Always watched this show, despite the fact the BBC tucked it away late on Sunday nights .So clever, so funny and at times, so sad. After all these years, this is the only place I've seen it since it was originally broadcast in the UK. What a shame.

Ha! I also remember watching it on BBC2 on Sunday evenings. Circa 1988.

Moss clearly has Asperger's. The awkwardness and inability to look people in the eye. Interesting to go back and see the personalities of the people from a new perspective. Molly too. It would be great ot see the whole series, Lots new to discover.

  • @EveningT

Thanks. I was inspired! Who can resist Molly's smouldering eyes and disarming smile, Moss's awkward, quiet but sincere charm.. this set against a backdrop of books... ;)
Here's hoping along with you. Not sure why they can't show re-runs on TV; surely that is not legally fraught in the way of a strictly commercial enterprise like that of the distribution and sale of DVDs...?

i loved this series back in the day (made NYC seem so romantic & weird) but never realized until this second that Moss is on the spectrum. Explains so much now.

@valdae Don't hold your breath. That sign up page has been there for about seven years now. A legal dispute over music rights has prevented a DVD release. The series has a YT channel now with all the episodes, though.

This was one of the best shows that was ever on TV, hard to see anything like it will ever be made again. If some has the last episode on VHS I would like to get a copy.

One of my all-time favorite shows. David Strathairn was (and still is ) amazing, and this was my introduction to him. Blair Brown, I'd say was the first "Ally McBeal."

One of the immortal, magical scenes in this amazing series! We should vote for others.
    (1) The whole hilarious father's funeral episode, ending in an emotional moment when Fred crashes Molly's apartment to console her. (2) Molly and Moss go ice-skating in the dead of winter. (3) Molly giving Fred the powerhouse "I don't love you" speech in an back alley ... and when she looks back he's gone. (4) The "going co-op" episode when Moss leaves her a shoe as keep sake. (5) Moss escaping through the toilet window when he learns of the pregnancy .... OK it is getting too many to list. And I haven't seen this show for 20+ years, only recently checking out the first 3 episodes uploaded on youtube again!

Davey wrote a novel and Molly read it. He then reveals how she mixes up what is based on truth and what has been made up and it is genuinely heartbreaking.

@@brianphillips579 I'll add the "three musketeeer's lunch" in the Chinese restaurant, and jury duty in season 3! :) Interesting that so many actually love the more somber drama in the later season, while I adore the more manic comedic first two seasons -- despite the fact that I almost never watch comedies, only tragedies, in movies!

I was in the subway in NYC in 1999 and the guy who played the Hispanic cop was there with a girlfriend. I think he knew I recognized him and I was about to say "Days and Nights of Molly Dodd" but didn't, figured I didn't want to intrude.
