"Thank you, Shepard. Difficult decision. Why it had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong..." "Genophage cured. Krogan free. New beginning... for all of us."
It's hard to see a fan favorite go, especially if it's someone you despise first but grow to love. His singing of Gilbert and Sullivan in ME2 was one of the series' highlights, and his potential sacrifice was another highlight. When I saw him ascend the Shroud, I knew what was going to happen and started to cry, and I finished his song for him, still crying. I love that they play the emotional suite (Vigil) in this. It is so beautiful.
Let's make this even more emotional: It is entirely possible, thanks to the comm links, that Shepard could hear Mordin's last words/song right up til the moment of the explosion...
After this scene played, I just wanted to walk up to Wrex, grab him by the front of his armour, and say; "Were you worth it? You, the krogans, was an entire species worth the life of one good man? Mordin Solus believed you were. Now it's up to you to prove to all the rest of us, that he was right."
This was without a doubt one of the best moments I've ever experienced in a videogame. Everything about it just came together amazingly: lead-up from 2, the character arc, dialogue, facial expressions, camera 'shots', incredibly poignant final words, this damn music. It surpassed most movies.
I get shivers when I think about the scene where Mordin stands in the elevator, eyes closed, with his typical deep breath. He felt so unique, not many games can achieve characters like this.
This is a song that has enough quality and depth that it could easily appear in a number of Hollywood films. Really gut wrenching when you're losing one of your favorite character.
i love how pretty much every character death in the game is some sort of sacrifice for the greater good. Nice way to lead up to the ending. Good work, professor. Hope you get to your seashells.
To be honest, I kind of suspected this. Sad to see it happen but still, one of the greatest character death themes ever. Good thing too, someone else would have gotten it wrong.
"Had to be me... Someone else could have gotten it wrong!" I felt like I had lost someone in my life who I'd known for years as one of my best friends when I saw this scene.
"Shepard, please. Have to do this. My project. My work. My cure. My responsibility" Seriously, that scene was one of the best of the entire trilogy!! :) R.I.P. Mordin!
This was one of the most inspiring and touching moments in the game. Mordin sacrificed himself to fix his mistake and give the Krogan a future free from the Genophage. Mordin, we will never forget you. *salute*
I start crying every time when he starts singing. Just a salarian doing his thing, at peace with himself and the universe, proud of what he has done, and with his only regret being that he could not perform tests on the seashells.
I reached that death scene of his when playing the game yesterday. And I can honestly say I did shed a tear at it. And I haven't even played the 2nd game yet so I don't know him very well.
Agreed. As soon as this started, I was overcome with emotion. I found that adding Vigil made that scene much more emotional than it would have been otherwise.
Mordin was by far and away my favourite aspect of Mass Effect 2. I was so thrilled to see he had a major role in the third game, and when I saw him on the Normandy, then back on Tuchanka, then yelling at me that he'd made a mistake, and then finally dying to cure the genophage... I just couldn't have asked for a better treatment of the character.
Indeed, he sings "Scientist Salarian" in Mass Effect 2 if you visit him a lot in between missions. It's a comical scene not many people saw apparently. Shortly before his death, Mordin sings this tune, possibly to ease his mind and accept his fate. RIP Mordin
We're not done yet...I have faith in BioWare. They have never let me down before, and I don't believe they're going to let such a trilogy fade away with a whimper. They know what's at stake and I believe in their writers... The fact we're even listening to this song with so much feeling shows that. RIP Mordin. Hope there's seashells and a lab wherever you are.
He is collecting sea shells now and studying them contently with a big smile on his face. He did the Krogan proud... he did Shepard proud but most of all... he did himself proud by following his heart. Somone else could have gotten it wrong... but not Mordin He is after all the greatest Scientist Salarian of all time. Mordin - i salute your bravery in stopping the collectors, and the curing of the genphage. But most of all... for being a great companion, and a very rare..very special friend.
I had to hold back tears when I saw mordin sing im the very modell of a scientist salarian. And smiling. And seeing the explosions in the background, it was so sad.
Mordin, you are without a doubt the character I have the most respect for in the entire Mass Effect series. You're the character with the balls to admit you did something wrong, the only person with the courage to sacrifice yourself for 3 different species; turian, krogan, and human, not even your own species. No character in the history of video gaming has ever has ever done something so selfless. I have never cried at any book, movie, or any other form of fiction. But I cried when you died.
mordin grew to become one of my 100% favorite characters after what he did, sacrifice for the greater good and what he needed to do. Such a bold and honorable thing to do. Had to be him, someone else would have gotten it wrong. I love mordin, such an amazing character
First playthrough I told him about the sabotage (and I was mostly paragon). What happened to Mordin felt intense. Second playthrough, I was full renegade, kept the sabotage a secret and selected every renegade popup that became available. Ended up shooting Mordin in the back :( And the way you then see him crawling to the console, very well done Bioware, the most thrilling, emotional game I've ever played.
even though mordin wasint one of my fav chacters ill still miss him i remember when we first met on omega sickness was involved when we met and when he died
How can you say that listening to a track that played during the most emotional pat of the series? That's what makes ME3 equal to all the other games in the series, it's the emotion and connectivity you feel with your squadmates/exsquadmates as they leave you, or when it looks like they might. I haven't cried at any of the other ME's, but man... Legion's sacrifice, Grunt (almost) dying, THIS! Oh man, it's coming back to me... Genophage cured. Krogan free. New beginning. For all of us.
krogan were adapting to the original genophage which was a millenium old, Mordin led stg team as a scientist to deliver new version of the genophage which continued the effects of the old one.
In war, there is no time for such emotions. Reason prevails, the krogans can not be allowed to bring the misery he has to endure to countless people instead. Mordin always knew that and he will always know that he did the right thing and suffers, so the galaxy does not have to suffer. A true hero, who did what needed to be done.
I never cry in fiction, but Mass Effect 3 had me sobbing at multiple parts. Which is doubly amazing since we Turians don't have tear ducts. Just like Mording, Mass Effect is incredible.
I'd like to imagine all your friends who ended up losing their lives are all together, waiting on the rest of the crew to join them and wreak some havoc in whatever Paradise they achieved with their accomplishments... I'll say my Shepard is with them -- with Thane -- and she's damn proud of all she's accomplished and proud of her crew.
He was the very model of a scientist Salarian.
"Thank you, Shepard. Difficult decision. Why it had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong..."
"Genophage cured. Krogan free. New beginning... for all of us."
+The Matulaak "I'm the very model of scientist salarian. I'm study species turian, asari and batarian...."
and now i am gonna cry
I'm sorry Mordin. I can't let you do that...
You made a mistakeee!!
I love how it cycles into Vigil afterwards. STRAIGHT in the gut.
Yep. That made me tear even more when I played.
It's hard to see a fan favorite go, especially if it's someone you despise first but grow to love. His singing of Gilbert and Sullivan in ME2 was one of the series' highlights, and his potential sacrifice was another highlight.

@@amandanies3174 am I a freak for not hating a single Mass Effect companion at any point?
Would like to run test on the sea shells....
"My xenoscience studies range from urban to argrarian I am the very model of a scientist salarian"
Mordin Solus-
Let's make this even more emotional:
It is entirely possible, thanks to the comm links, that Shepard could hear Mordin's last words/song right up til the moment of the explosion...
+Sheetro
I hope so. 'Cause then Shepard would finish it for him.
I only wish I didn't have this part spoiler'd for me. Still, it's the best damn death a character like Mordin could ask for.
Being shot by Shepard and crawling to the elevator as he ignored my orders?
Wouldn't call that so good a death XD.
DaBase333 The song that plays over that part is called "Betrayal". This is the one where he sacrifices himself to fix his mistake.
magmablock Oooooh. New track to check out then.
@@DaBase333 wait wtf i didnt know thats an option
@@v-Lex-v it is you have to do a renegade run at it though
a game is good when it can make you feel something for the characters.
Mordin was definitely my favorite character of all time.
1:40 still gives me goosebumps..
After this scene played, I just wanted to walk up to Wrex, grab him by the front of his armour, and say;
"Were you worth it? You, the krogans, was an entire species worth the life of one good man? Mordin Solus believed you were. Now it's up to you to prove to all the rest of us, that he was right."
It's Wrex...of course he's bloody worth it.
+Jimmy Russel (Dirgil)
And he darn well is gonna prove it. Pardon my French.
+jappie2
Wreav is the one reason you _don't_ cure the genophage.
+Zombiewithabowtie Nah, Wrex is boss, that kind of talk I'd reserve for that dipshit Wreav, depending on what choice you made on Virmire
+Zombiewithabowtie That would have been a dick move. Not his or any Krogans fault they're in this situation.

I miss Mordin although his death was the best any character from any game or even movie could wish for
"Would like to have run tests on the seashells"
As soon as he said that i started to blubber :(
This is a song that has enough quality and depth that it could easily appear in a number of Hollywood films. Really gut wrenching when you're losing one of your favorite character.
I cried so hard when this happened. Good times with my old fella Mordin.
"Ah, classic bypass. Standard failsafes. Excellent work. Yes, yes."
I always feel a manly tear curling up on my left eye whenever i come to this part of the game. Mordin is a hero!
I feel myself choking up already. Incredibly emotion music for possibly the best moment in the whole series.
I loved how they used Vigil here. It fit so perfectly with the feeling.
"My work. My cure. My Responsibility."
I'm not, had to be me....someone else could have gotten it wrong.
"I'm not! Had to be me!"
"Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
This moment... was incredible.
Mordin is my favourite!

Such a great moment when he closes his eyes for his last breath, you will be missed Mordin.
Such an emotional scene.....man it still gets me
Crazy and fighting Mordin would have the best and most emotional song of the entire series because he had perhaps the best and most emotional scene!
I just love how they added the prothean VI theme from Mass effect 1 at the end..it made this even more epic ^^
"Had to be me... Someone else could have gotten it wrong!"

Still get chills listening to this, even when I'm looking at a static image.

Mordin, we will never forget you. *salute*
I've studied species from turian to agrarian I am the very model of a... *bang* me NOOOOOOOO!
"...from turian to batarian..."
I've seen some vids with him, but never really bothered to try and see his character much more than that. Now I'm interested. Thanks!
Yeah, the way his voice cracked on that last verse? Broke my heart.
I start crying every time when he starts singing. Just a salarian doing his thing, at peace with himself and the universe, proud of what he has done, and with his only regret being that he could not perform tests on the seashells.

by far one of my favorite and far too underrated characters. He deserves just as much fucking glory as shepard
This moment made me cry, especially when he sings scientist Salarian right before he blows up. :'( favourite character right here
By far, Mordin's death was Bioware's greatest accomplishment so far in ME3. His plot was just so inspiring and moving.....
Thank you for getting it right, Doc. :(
The scene itself was absolutely perfect. This song completed it.
love how they mixed Vigil's theme in here, absolutely stunning
same here, same here. So many memories, i had to keep myself from bursting into tears every time i heard this! :')
What really got me tearing up was when Mordin began singing but sounding like he was scared...made me wanna hug him...:'(
I love the second half of this track with Mass Effect 1's main theme.
I don't know how many times I've cried at this part.
"-a scientist Salarian."
I almost cried when I got to this part of the game :'(
*reads comment through floods of tears*
What do you mean, "almost"?
This track always gives me shivers :(

Mordin was one crazy bastard, and one hell of a friend
Just one of many emotional moments.
I almost cried when Vigil's theme from 1 came on. Best music for the situation, for a quite frankly amazing mission.
Salarian. Fragile. Insufficient lifespan.
(Too soon?)
I just love that theme it reminds me of all the things i love and have lost in mass effect 1,2, and 3
This part brought tears to my eyes.
:'( Rest in peace, Mordin. Your sacrifice will be forever remembered by those who loved you so much while playing the game.

I guess it's because it actually makes you think. Makes you choose what's right and wrong.
