Same, my musician friend and I used to watch snl every week and they'd always complain when someone was pretending to play a musical instrument in a sketch but clearly had no idea what they were doing. It adds so much to a sketch when a performer is able to commit on this level

Yeah asked ChatGPT about this quote, but it could not place the it, only making up something about T.S Eliot. While it is no cause for great alarm at this juncture, it is somewhat disconcerting.

Once and only once did someone after a show come up and tell me they knew it was from the Kids. I hugged that person.
I'm sure more than one person's remarked that Kevin DOES look like an escaped medical experiment! (You could pretty say that about most of the troupe!)

You know what I like about the bass player? His neck...how do they come up with this stuff. It's not just the writing that makes it funny. Their whole physicality.
This tripped me out so hard! I remembered this skit when I seen the thumbnail but it wasn't until he did the "the mother, the father..." part where it came flooding back like a tidal wave! Perfect!

@@jime6688: The White Stipes definitely has bass players of some sort. I imagine Jack White played the parts in the studio and they probably hired a touring musician when they played live.
I was watching them on Peacock the other day and this sketch came up. Brought back memories from when I watched it back in the day. This and the Daves I know. They don't have silly comedy like this much anymore. Love it

This was how I acted when I hosted the student poetry and fiction readings in grad school. I was taking a ridiculous amount of stimulants and Xanax, while getting blackout drunk, at the time.
I'll agree that the man could be astoundingly cruel to people he claimed to care about - and I think his choice of title for the song in question was ill-advised at best - but the point he was trying to make remains a valid one.
He's actually playing too, which makes me happy.

To most average people, bass players are not necessary; but real musicians know that bass players are absolutely critical to any band.
