Great review, as always! This is a good compass and you are right, some plastic parts are "not necessarily a bad thing." Not all plastic is equal and I have a number of compasses with some plastic parts and they are quite good, such as this compass, Staedtler Superbow/Technico, and many Haff and Riefler compasses had plastic nuts and gears. Getting a true and sharp dropbow is a rare thing. I did see this compass in my 1978 catalog, so it does date all the way from the 1970's and they were selling it at least until the 1990's catalog. I don't see it in the 1997 catalog though. One drawback of plastic is if the centre screw gets bent it will damage the nuts. On an all metal compass you can tap the centre screw straight again and you are back in business!
