I have never seen any recordings of “meret le arashu” or “edger be h’bret” in action though it’s an important part of my family’s and our nation’s history. And to see it from the perspective of Si’lte and Afar. I never even considered that the revolution had touched Afar. The result of our poor education, despite my reading… I bet those elders lost their youth to the beloved revolution soon enough like the rest of Ethiopia..

Very much the honeymoon period of the revolution captured here, things would turn sour very soon! Teferi Benti would of course be executed and the uneasy collaboration between the student activists and the military would give way to what was effectively a civil war between the two (the so-called 'Red Terror'). It's interesting to hear about the revolution in the Afar Region, something not really touched upon in most histories of this period - no mention of Eritrea though, surprisingly!

"Their revolution is so radical that they sometimes fight the police and bureaucracy... critics claim the revolution is loosening anarchy upon the land." Except the problem was that they didn't keep it anarchy (if any was actually there in the beginning). It was the state, police, and bureaucracy that went on to do its brutal reign of terror as usual when revolutions are directed by governments. Funny how Western capitalist media expects the people to let the government take control of their revolution when that's the exact reason so many revolutions in history are needlessly bloody and result in tyranny.

At the end of his working age he came to city to buy land and he bought lands to build houses by his collected money of his work but after the failure of the regime the Derege government took my grand father's houses and his others wealths then he became very poor we faced many crisis and droughts still we are suffering by the lack of freedom.

That’s one period in our history that I seriously wish never happened. But I’m sure it had to. Why can’t we catch ourselves and turn things around when they start to fall apart? Why do we go down a ruined path down to the last inch?

Haile Selassie overthrow was inevitable. You can't maintain a feudal society in the 20th century where certain sections of populations didn't even have the rights to go to school. I always admired him until I read about his (mis)rule and how he maintained Ethiopia's feudal structure such as the entitled landlords and even slavery! Mengistu saved Ethiopia from perpetual backwardness. He midwifed Ethiopia's path into modernity in spite of his mistakes & brutality. The TPLF, in spite of its terror and nepotism, progressed it even farther. Ethiopia will eventually become the most powerful modern and wealthiest African state like it was always destined to be and two much hated forces will be to thank for that: The DERG and the TPLF. One smashed feudalism and the other smashed socialism and ushered in free-market economy.

Kienyeji Chicken That's not true. Haile Selassie was a strong supporter of education. He was constantly focusing his budget on education and modernization. Trust me he mistreated no one, the problem is that modernization happened to quickly. I know this because my great uncle was one of the 50 people killed with no trial by Mengustu Haile Mariam after Haile Selassie's deposal in 1974. Haile Selassie did so much for us and yet we let him go. So sad... he was murdered along with millions of others under tplf and derg.

Watching this made me hate Derg and woyane even more. Derg lost sight of the big picture and dismissed it's promise of making people's lives better. Derg turned it's back on the people giving woyane the advantage to spread lies about the history of Ethiopia. There after, woyane came preaching people were not allowed to speak their ethnic languages and so forth, yet, we see soldiers using translators to communicate with other ethinic groups here. I heard translators of Afar and gurage. Woyane didn't solve anything at all with fedralism. It actually barried our problem deeper away from solutions. Just like the Feudal system took what belonged to the poor and gave it to the wealthy. Woyane elites and associates stole what doesn't belong to them from the poor in billions. Derg came and left and Meles came and passed, the people are still dirt poor. In rural Ethiopia things are worse today than they were back in those days. That's a fact. Mengistu and Meles loved power more than anything else. If you go to rural tigray and Amhara region today, the level of povery is second to none. People, please, let's change the way we look at ourselves. We come from a line of great kings and queens. Our forefathers were great without a doubt! But ( us) their children are worthless big mouth assholes. በጉራ ያበጥን ውስጠ ባዶ ጉዶች. Our politicians are egotistical demagogues. We the people are self-centered hypocrites. That is NOT facts. Still dirt poor, I agree but EPRDF had accomplished undeniable and palpable changes in rural Ethiopia for all its other faults. Life expectancy, health and well-being in general has improved exponentially in our life times and we’re not even that old :) What do you think about the current situation, I wonder..

I was talking about the deep level of poverty I have witnessed with my own eyes. Forget about the their report tainted with lies. How can anyone tell you malnourished kids of these farmers are doing better? You look at these kids they look like they are five and six years olds when they're nine and ten.
All that stolen billions of dollars that got shipped out of the country to foreign banks could have been used to help change their lives. All that happend under their watch. Today they hold Abiy responsible for everything that happens under the sun. That would have been ok by me if they had held themselves to the same standards, but they don't. For every bad thing that happened under woyane, they somehow manage to blame someone else for it. They have never taken responsibility for any mess ups they have created under their watch at all, nor did they apologize for it.

Young Forever lol the funny thing about you guys are the only poor and ignorant in the whole ethiopia. No one is complaining about amharas in Ethiopia but you guys try to convince them but it ain’t work out because of the almighty god. Both menilik and Selassie are the pride of ethiopia. They achieve the greatest goal in Ethiopia its a well known fact around the world. I know mengistu might not be a good person but he was just a bad guy. Also, He didn’t stolen anything from his people(he was loyal). He didn’t kill any people based on their ethnicity . We know He gave power fairly that’s why he loses. There were a lot of oromo, Eritrean, Tigrinya, southern soldiers as much as amharas. The dereg kills them equally. When we come to tplf they brought their uneducated peoples all the way up to leaders everywhere, they kill everyone inside (soul) and outside. We all work the same work in ethio but the tigrians look more successful u think that’s because of their knowledge lol we know even the educated tigriayans are not the educated one it’s well known fact around the world. You might seen the change that abiy brought within short time that’s what educated person do. But, They hide in one place, they propaganda the innocent people and gathered in jail that’s what uneducated person do and that’s the place for them it’s written in bible tho. I feel bad for you because u are ashamed to use your real name now forever young. You are forever buried just bark there is no shortcut from now that’s gods plan. He is always above everything. Eritrean feel bad for us?? Lol u saw what happens when they separate from ethio that will happen if you try to separate from Ethiopia. We didn’t get any benefit from keeping you guys it’s true but u guys are gonna get a lot from us. Plus meles aint shit cuz he didn’t do anything good. Something might pop up in your mind like the abay dam or peace security.., (because u know only what u allow your mind to know but u have to accept the real fact now) but if you want to know about the dam read old books about Ethiopia, google Haile Selassie old dollar note(not birr) dollar note!. In the back of Selassie dollar note you will find the actual design of the abay dam. It was designed and planed in back day. The tplf peace security huh its funny even it didn’t insecure his own peace but it acts like he is securing somalia 😞 the fact isto stole somalia resource as peace guard. I feel like u didn’t reed books that much let me share you some facts in back days Ethiopians went to Korea and Congo as a peace guard and they defeat not terrorists but they defeat a colonial power within months and only 3-5 people injured and dead. This means the power of tplf aint shit cuz (it took a long time since they reside in Somalia (not keeping the peace) reside! But we know that it has power when it comes to good people. tplf power is to bomb in the middle of capital city and kill gambella innocents, to kill Oromiya peoples, to torture opponents , to kill bahrdar university students, Amhara farmers and its main job is to rape. The first gay person in Ethiopia may be that ignorant person who rape that kid in jail. If u hate menileiek and Haile Selassie u have to hate adwa victory day and African Uniontoo. Even the whole Africa respect them.We defeat Italians and some betrayal ones in their home adwa, But there are some good Tigrinya back on those day. The amazing thing is you guys think that Haile Selassie come to power by amharas but it’s by hadere peoples and oromias by defeating the wello (lij eyasus dad and lij eyasu) and other amharas. While some betrayed with Italians u know wat I mean. “Bechawen ye bella, Ee bechawen yemotal “ ye Amhara teret ye ewnet endemisera ahun yegebahal! Ignorant becha menilik, tewodros and Haile Selassie contributes a lot to civilized Ethiopia. They brought telephones, light , modern army, navy, school, university, cars, train, build port, they build Africa union... they build a lot of things from scratch without no credit. Even Haile Selassie’s system give meles an opportunity to be educated. However, he stop attending and dive into politics. A lot of people might think he is educated person but everyone has their own measuring criteria. The leader who torture and steal money from his own country doesn’t looks educated. ( he begged money by his people and use that money to personal use ) all we have to know is god is fear all the time he taught us what we’ve to know. We might forgive u but we are not gonna never forget what you did to us. I’m out 🖐

Young Forever you ask what did The Emperor do for Ethiopia? You need to do research before you condemn persons whom are highly regarded and deserving of much respect. The Emperor did much for Ethiopia, He was on a mission to modernize the country, gave Ethiopia her first constitution, created industry and so much more.
The Emperor is the type leader every nation needs because there would be no war and all the world's problems would be solved. The Emperor's passion was education, he made sure to educate the youths to run Ethiopia. This video is very biased and is nothing but propaganda for those whom do not do their own research but rather believe, accept and pass on misinformation! The truth is out there and it will be the victor in the end. This "revolution" did nothing but create confusion and suffering while bringing to end the greatest kingdom the world has ever known! That was the western intercept Ethiopia to fall apart. Ethiopian, they didn’t know God elected king has a vision to cross poverty by education was the way and he did work on that hard but his people did not know and risen to remove him and they did. Now look what happened nowadays. Selasse i , did not know there is starvation and they hide . At that time, food was very cheap but those who needed to remove the King is that the only reason to do is people who live in country side cut the food delivery, cut the trees 🌳 not to get rain 🌧, cut water supply and destroy road not to drive vehicles. Finally, they succeeded and the 👑 removal movement rises up day today.

But all this talk of breaking away from Ethiopia is nonsense and promotes Balkanization. Even if there were independent nations formed around “ethnicity” or “tribes” there will still be political conflict. By the way, Mengistu killed tigrayans during the civil war yes but he killed everyone who didn’t fall in line with him or failed him and that included his generals, other derg members, EPRP, MEISON, and college students during the red terror. There were Amharas in these groups. In fact, EPLF and TPLF were surprised themselves of how brutal he was against his own military commandment, Mengistu was killing his own generals for failing battles as well as those who in the countryside who were not following conscription into the army. I never understood why followers of TPLF act as if they were targeted for being tigrayans during this time when the derg was killing whoever was against them. They gunned down 60 members and ministers of Haile Selassies own government for crying out loud...jeeze

@@cooliomcgee5299 idek WHERE u get Amharas from cuz not once did I mention them. but since ur on the topic of Balkanization, that’s EXACTLY what I hope to happen. There’s no hope for Ethiopia. Tegaru have freaking generational trauma from this dumb country. I grow up in a time of war. My mom grew up in a time of war. My grandmother grew up in a time of war. As far as I’m concerned and know, tegaru are actually pretty much done with Ethiopia, we want nothing to do with it, and calling ourselves Ethiopian is a disrespect to us at this point. And on the topic of Mengistu, yes he killed anyone who didn’t fall in line with him but it’s factual that he INDISCRIMINATELY TARGETED TIGRAY. he even called us beggars and blamed us for the global view of Ethiopia being a country of starvation in a speech back in the 80’s. Don’t try and switch it up, the hate speech was there since menelik. It was there with haile Selassie, it’s there with Mengistu and it’s still here today. I’m not arguing with someone who’s not gonna accept that undeniable truth. have a nice day🏃🏾‍♀️

@@samrawitkenfe2876 If Ethiopia does split up then so be it, that’s the reason why my parents and my grandparents left right before the revolution happened sensing that something sinister was stirring in the country. The derg was bad for the country, no doubt, it would’ve been better if it at least transitioned from a monarchy to a unitary democratic republic where all ethnic groups of Ethiopia were equal to one another without the senseless violence spurred on by communist purges and civil war. I’m just thankful that a country like the US exists. At least the US doesn’t base their constitution on ethnonationalism/ethnic nationalism however you wanna call it. The vision was that Ethiopia would have grown into a multi-ethnic country without centralization surrounding one ethnic group. I don’t even know if there is one country in sub-Saharan Africa outside of Somalia that’s based on one homogenous ethnic group. But as seen in “homogenous” Somalia, even if Ethiopia splits into various ethnic nation states I guarantee there’ll still be a conflict over something else as is the case with other countries in Africa such as South Sudan who split from Sudan because of Arab dominance but why is there still conflict there? Because of tribal/ethnic politics.. But since it seems that the majority of the TPLF and their supporters have their minds made up then have fun having a Tigray nation/country or whatever. Peace.
