The reason Snooker is losing popularity in the UK is because all the clubs are shutting down. Ridiculous rates and rents on commercial properties is the main cause. Business is being suffocated in this country.

    • @end-game2030

Why? Do you know WST has invested 0 into the game grassroots. Helping clubs might be asking too much, but they have not even invested in academies. Not even a single academy funded or built by WST/MATCHROOM/HEARN the Snooker Cartel in 30 years. CRIIMINALS.

I suffer with anxiety/depression and I know Ronnie has felt the same. In 2021 I got the chance to play him in an exhibition, so fought all my fears to play the frame but also used it to raise £1000 for MIND charity. 1 of my shots during the frame has 150,000+ views on YT and even John Virgo said it was a "Ronnie Special" afterwards :)

99.9999999% of the people watching the world snooker championship will be watching on TV and that would change to 99.9999999% if it was in a venue with 10x as many seats.
Regardless of where it's held, the vast majority of the revenue will come from TV deals, not ticket sales. In snooker broadcasting, the TV screen is largely filled with the table and next to no fans (except occasionally the front 2-3 rows visible behind the player and an occasional wide shot between frames). So there's no point having a bigger audience from the TV viewers perspective.
The existing crowd size already imparts more than enough atmosphere - making the venue bigger will make it more impersonal and potentially harder to control atmospheric conditions, and the people in the back row of the Crucible already view the table as a small green thing in the distance.
Improved facilities have been called for by some players but not the arena itself.
So there is an awful lot to lose on one side of the equation including the history and intimacy of the existing venue and on the other side as far as I can see is just a chance for an already rich man (Barry Hearn) to make marginally more money - he's a wheeler dealer and in all likelihood has some scheme in place to have greater control over a new soulless venue of his choice.
It ain't broke at the crucible - there's nothing to fix.

Agree totally, the Wuhan tournament last week was practically empty, and the final featured two Chinese one of them actually from Wuhan.Keep it at Sheffield live spectator size as mentioned is irrelevant but with the crucible being small adds to the atmosphere,Ok, listen to the players and improve conditions there where possible, but DON’T succumb to Chinese or Saudi big money. Its a good idea to move it to a BIGGER venue, especially when a snooker table (where the action is) is 12'x6'! Do you all see were i'm going with this? Anyway, a tennis court is 78'x37'. A football pitch is 344'x223'. Would you like to watch a football game from 1 mile away (currently man u fans probably would 😊)? I certainly wouldn't. Keep it at the Crucible ffs.

Barry Hearn is slowly killing snooker off in the UK with his mercenary like business practices. I understand money is a big part of running a sport, but with all the money they make off of the Saudis and from China, he could at least invest in the game outside of the pro scene.

Exactly, he's just lying. He wants to be a multi billionaire. It has nothing to do with the sport or necessity, these executives running snooker are already multi-millionaires and the sport is making more money now than it ever has. They are liars and they are even actively supporting nations involved heavily in humantrafficking, terrorism and other crimes against humanity. These huge business people in bed with saudi oil sheikhs and the CCP should be considered complicit in these crimes.

Ronnie leads your hero and fake goat Hendry the loser and cry baby 9-4 in finals, and 30-21 H2H, fact Hahahahaha
And in the return grudge match in the WSC SF 2004, Ronnie wiped the floor with Hendry 17-4, You should watch the match its on TH-cam. Hendry was almost crying and it was a joy to watch his face Hahahaha. And the GOAT did it again to Hendry in 2008, He slaughtered Hendry 17-6 , another fact Hahahahaha

Will the players except that ? will they f 🤣
You cant expect big prize money and all that goes with it
Whilst playing at a venue that dosnt generate the money needed.
Although its a sport, its also a business, that cannot run at a loss, just so players can have high prize money
