It's going to get Drifted! The aluminum is badly pitted & I've been polishing by hand. Tomorrow, I'm going buffer shopping for these gadgets! Thanks for the great info!

Great video. I want to start restoring my 93 FZR 600. It has only 10000 miles on it, but the fairing and the fins need some restoring. Thankyou for giving me some tips on how to start.
I like to use lacquer thinner or acetone, then a medium scuff pad to a fine to get rid of the clear finish then the oxidation before attempting to actually polish.

mothers is amazing so give it a try and see if you like the results...if it doesn't work then the items are clear coated and have yellowed you will need to remove the clearcoat to get to the aluminum to polish it...
Use this, takes 2 or more applications and it will remove the clear coat amzn.to/3ttY5rE just make sure you let it sit overnight after each application. I was just about to order some brass wheels and scotchbrite wheels for dremmel... so its recommended to use the white polishing discs/rods to clean an engine instead? My engine casing is 15 years old!

Im about to attempt this on a 1952 Honda Dream E-type engine. I just hope there's a way to make it look somewhere between corroded, and mirror finish; I'm not looking for a mirror finish as thats not how it was, but want to remove all the corrosion.

loving your video's its like your talking to me personally Do you have a video on cleaning the small buffing wheels? I am getting close to retirement age and I'm trying to teach myself motorcycle detailing as my next adventure in life.

Try a area using aluminum aircraft stripper, then polish it. Those engines are painted and clear coated from the factory, the comprised finish is what looks bad. Using polish and friction to get the old finish off is time consuming. What you are ending up with does look great though. Thanks!
Edward thanks for that if it was the summertime here in mich we would have done that but we are in an enclosed area and that option is out for us ...the clear looks really deteriorated so it should sand off real easily my friend ...thanks brother mike

I didn't say anything about removing pitting, as you see by the motor I'm polishing there isn't any pitting. But, if you have pitting, the obvious common sense thing to do is to use this amzn.to/4f3tZBo and get rid of it. Thanks. mad Mike
This is a FANTASTIC video. I was given an '86 Vulcan and need to do this to the engine. You mentioned another video to deal with heads and fins. Did you ever do that one? Also, what about sanding the large surfaces? Was there a video for that too?

@@SweetScoots for example does bikes have gearbox ? Does they have a throttle body ? Are they air cooled or water cooled ? Do they have a cooling fan ?
Don’t go over 600 grit on aluminum it makes the surface too smooth and the polish doesn’t like to bond as well with the metal leaving less of a shine unless you reallllly work the hell out of it
Isn't there a paint stripper that will remove the clear lacquer first and make it easier to polish the cases ? That lacquer is a bitch to remove sometimes.

I beg to differ, when you've been working on bikes for over 35 years, you get good at re-conditioning. Out of 248 bikes we have re-conditioned we had a total of 748,000 invested into them and after re-conditioning, we profited 427,000. Thanks, have a great day. mad Mike

Will mothers take off yellowed clear on casings/handlebars that are aluminum?
mothers is amazing so give it a try and see if you like the results...if it doesn't work then the items are clear coated and have yellowed you will need to remove the clearcoat to get to the aluminum to polish it...

What you're doing does not remove any deep pitting at all. All you'll do is shine the pitting.

If you wet sand it with 2000 then 3000 it will get your pits out then polish it.

Could you put 'clearcoat' over the finish ? If not then you would be polishing a lot !
joe you can they do make a high temp clear the only part clear will not work is the heads and jugs

next time save yourself allot of work and use paint stripper to remove the clear coat off first, all alum engine cases have it.
