- October 9th, 2024 brought quite a bunch of talking points amongst train enthusiasts. From the 40th anniversary of talking-train show, and the announcement of a surviving NYC Mohawk being restored to operating condition!!
To celebrate this locomotive's anticipated restoration, here is a similar video to that of my CPR 2816 video, where i explain the locomotive's history in 5 Minutes!!! It does feel a bit rushed, and it happened day's later than usual, as i've been away for Thanksgiving, and been busy with college, meaning this video got pushed back for a while. Nonetheless, Enjoy!!!
Wont happen without donations guys! Give what you can! Only 200 ish days to raise 400k. We need everyones support. Fort wayne is all volunteer and donation based

WE'RE RESURRECTING THE GHOSTS OF THE RAILS WITH THIS ONE 🗣🗣🔥🔥
I’m glad that New York Central 3001 is getting operating condition to be restored.
As a huge NYC fan you guys can not imagine how happy I am
I’m a NYC fan too and I can’t wait to see 3001 running on home rails pulling excursion trains.
This has to be one of the best if not the best announcement in railroad preservation this year
I’m a diehard nyc fan
@@flowercityrails If not the entire decade, short of the East Broad Top's return.
This reminds me of the Trainz video series made by ronthecyborg in 2010 named The Mohawk that Wouldn't Quit.
With 3001 and the T1 5550 project going along, we could see a once rivalry between reborn. Either way history is being created!
comeback of the century right here with 3001
ALFRED E PERLMAN GOING TO WAKE UP FROM HIS GRAVE WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
No. Contrary to what History in the Dark likes to jokingly depict, Alfred Perlman never hated steam engines, nor wanted them completely eradicated. The only reason why almost every single NYC steam locomotive was scrapped was because the company was in a horrifically dire and severe financial state, and they needed money. As a result, Perlman decided to sacrifice the steam engines in order to keep NYC afloat. However, obviously, not all of NYC's steam engines were scrapped. Mohawk 2933 was used as a stationary boiler for NYC's own shops before she was directly donated by NYC, and presented by Alfred Perlman, to the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri. 2933 resides there to this day. In addition to 2933, New York Central 6721, 6894, 999, and a few other NYC steam locomotives survive today as well.

*Mohawks Never Do Quit*
Short and simple but, gotta love watching all of Halton's new vids.
The rolling line gameplay works so well for historical railroad graphics in videos like this, it’s aesthetically seamless.
I am so glad that this Mountain/Mohawk is being restored to operating condition.
Out of the two NYC Mohawks that we still have today, i'm glad 3001 is chosen to be restored to operation for it's an L3a designed to be a true dual-service that can go at 80mph in both freight and passenger work.
I’m glad this getting restored because I have seen it a couple of times and man it looked rough
So cool!
I always hoped 3001 would be restored, I'm really excited for what's to come.
not only 3001 will be the first operational nyc steam locomotive in decades but also be the first operational 4-8-2 since 2002 when frisco 1522 lasted ran
4:31 That was such a good reference lol
🗣🗣🔥🔊🔊🔥🔥The Mohawk that never quit🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🔊🔊
A New York Central Mohawk finally got the chance to return back to working order, which is New York Central 3001. It’s the sole surviving L-3a class Mohawk of the New York Central Railroad. Also for Texas & Pacific 638, in my imagination vision if it was still around to this day. It could’ve been displayed at the same park with New York Central 3001 (Masquerading as Texas & Pacific 909), and then finally being displayed at the Museum of American Railroad in Frisco, Texas to this day. Had it not been vandalized.
Tysm for making this
Best birthday news ever! 😄🚂
I have seen this steam engine before and will be leaving for the Fort Wayne railroad museum sometime soon
Great vid bro ❤

I don't have a lot of knowledge of American locomotives but this is hype
They don't need luck... They need money! SO DONATE!
From what I've heard, only 8 NYC steam locomotives survive, but only 2 of them are iconic. 3001 because she's a modern dual-service Mohawk capable of 80 mph with a passenger train, and 999 for being the Empire State Express locomotive and being alleged to be the first to reach 100 mph. I wanna include 2933 since she's also a Mohawk, but she's a freight only Mohawk.
Great video!
A vid about the cp m640 in the future ?
So, someone found a good use for the 2nd part of "My Deer Friend Nokotan" opening theme! 😂😂
Seriously, seeing this restored will be a feather in the cap of those restoring it to join the ranks of like Reading's 2102 and (If the WMSR ever gets it out of the shop!) the C&O 1309.
Once it's running, Darkness The Curse should check Alfred Perlman's grave for a spinning corpse...!
WMSR expects to have 1309 ready again by this coming Winter.
@@chooch1764 we'll see...
Also note that Fort Wayne Historical Society also got NYC Empire State Express coaches also to be restored!
Yeah, that's the whole reason behind the 3001 restoration
@@ErieRRfan there’s been probably a little more planning than that!
I'M HERE! 🎉🎉
When are you gonna upload the p44dc Project?
i saw that loco from my room on amtrak last summer not knowing of its existence till I saw I it
2:47 Who TF set that thing on there -Rodney
It’s not a streamlined J3a, but I’ll take it. I kinda hope they do the proposed 21st Century Limited livery.
My friend CygnusOX made the passenger cars and locomotive in the Rolling Line segments!
Like if you also thought they were initially new building a Hudson based on the blueprints being spread by everyone.
Put those elephant ears on already
As a Pensy fan my self, I’m thrilled to hear this news! And it wouldn’t surprise me, after the T1 5550 is done, and the 3001 is running, that we may potentially see a dryfuss Hudson rebuilt??? What ya’ll think?
Like my wish has finally come true
Imagine this running a excursion from Chicago to New York City on the Erie West subdivision

*NEEEEEEEEWWWWW YORK CENTRAL!*
The moment the mowhawk dosent quit be like
as for 2933, im surprised Perlman Donated it and not a Niagra, or a Hudson
The reason why Perlman couldn't save any Hudsons or Niagaras is because the NYC was struggling financially at that time. At least he was kind enough to preserve 3001, 2933, 999, 6721, and 6894.
NYC just donated nyc2933 and nyc999. The rest was saved because it was sold to another railway's, 3001 was sold to T&P, 6721 sold to Central Illinois Public Service Company etc.... NYC999 was saved because of his huge history background ,even Perlman can denied 999 is important to NYC history.... NYC2933 was lucky, forget has stationary steam boiler after most of NYC steam was scrapped....
@@DillianTrainzStudios Perlman knew the economic impact Diesels GP 7s and F7a would have on the bottom line, and if you could scrap one old locomotive, you could get 3 or 4 diesels. They placed a large order for diesels, and moved ahead of the competition. By 1952 deliveries of new diesels were showing up everywhere on the system.
Did not know the Mohawks had the chargin targe
Is it funny that in Australia we have a 3001 that’s operational

It Would be Cool if this Gal Ran along the Waterlevel (Now the Metro-North's Hudson Line,) With the Exception of NYC's Harlem 125th Street & Grand Central, Bc Steam Has been Banned in City Limits Since 1908, (And A Firmer Law in 1923) Other Than These things, It Would Be A Nice Spot To Take Cinematic pictures.
Gave myself tinnitus at 4:35
Everyone who doesn't know where 3001 is, It's at Elkhart Indiana and will probably get restored by late 2025!
It's a big project going on by Fort Wayne
They have already rescued 765, so why not 3001 this time!
I wonder if it will be owned by Norfolk Southern after it's restored and be running with 611...
NYC 3001 will take at least a few years to restore. NS doesn’t have a steam program. 3001 will operate on the Indiana Northeastern Railroad with 765.
@@chooch1764Alright,
good to know. I'm guessing your Some Indiana Railfan in the area?
@@railfanjedi No. I actually follow the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and I actually watched the press conference.
Again, makes me proud to be a Hoosier. And for once I don’t have to ride shotgun in a car for an eternity because something awesome is in another state, IT’S RIGHT HERE (HAPPY AUTISM NOISES)
tmtnq predicted the future :O kinda
Mohawk 3001 had to go to Texas to replace an engine that had to be scrapped because it was Highly Vandalized.
To be clear, *NO ONE* should ever be compelled to Vandalize a Steam Locomotive. And those Vandals who did do such a thing are probably rotting in Hell for their sins right now.
Is it just me or is he saying Elkhark instead Elkhart?
i hear demoman charge
You should had explained it in 30 minutes and 1 second
I’m like the only one who doesn’t care about 3001 lol
Yes. We don’t need your two cents on this locomotive nor PRR 5550. Keep your opinions to yourself, because steam locomotive hating doesn’t make you look good.
Also, if you don’t care about this locomotive, why were you even commenting in the first place? 🤔
I can already picture 3001 & NKP 765 on a doubleheader excursion once its operational.
I wonder how Albert E. Perlman feels about this.....
