- Here in the Marshall Islands people are forgetting about how to cook traditional meals. Local foods have been replaced by imported foods. One of our goals is to encourage a return to the natural local foods that are all healthy for us to eat. Taro leaves or Rourou is very nutritious and very underused in the RMI. Asena was nice enough to show us how to cook them in the traditional Fijian way. Even though she uses corned beef in this video, you can substitute it with fish or chicken to make the dish a lot more healthy.

So many tips! 1. Cook for 30-40 mins to prevent itchy. 2. Leave the lid off. 3. Cut off stem 4. Stir consistently

We don't have taro leaves here. Is there any type of leaves close to taro leaves I can cook with corn beef?

Use the very young ones... still curly and not fully opened.
She is using dalo ni tana which is why it is hard. The leaves are thicker then normal taro leaves. In terms of itchyness both are similar. Comes down to heat and duration of cooking to get rid of the itchyness.
@@jonewaqa4482 vinaka vakalevu frlm Tanna Vanuatu... we use younger leaves from normal taro but in the video the leaves look older hence yhe question
