6:26 Nah bro, don’t sleep on Re Chain of Memories. It’s has a few balancing issues and the story can feel a little bit contrived, but it’s moment to moment gameplay, especially when you do minimum health or CP runs is immense fun.

I never played Re:CoM. I played the original on the GBA, and found that, once I had my deck in proper order so I could quickly flip between high and low cards, the game stopped being all that difficult, and then the fights all started blurring together. After that, I figured the 3D version wasn't really going to offer much better than that.

As a huge KH fan who also grew up with the series, I definitely feel all the criticism of the franchise. I could play KH1, KH2, and cutscene-binge until KH3, then be totally happy with the confusing mess of the story. I remember feeling that the game's release order, jumbling up narratives to fit the idea as a whole, just put me off the hype train. I wish all of it was done differently - that Aqua's character arc was more defined and less drawn out (still tragic), that we got to play more as Roxas, Riku, or King Mikey, and that whoever passed the design of the card-based combat be stoned to oblivion. But nonetheless, the fandom surrounding the game is what kept me on board. I'm happy to see and hear someone else's opinion like this, cause I haven't seen many like it.

Thank you for watching and commenting. To be honest, the spin offs/bridge games could have been SO much better. Like imagine if you had Oswald come into the story as Mickeys brother who didn’t get a chance to take the throne? Or Max, Goofy’s son, looking for his dad during the events of Chain of Memories. So many missed opportunities after KH2.

Oh come on the card-based combat wasn't that bad 😅 In retrospect out of all the side games, Com has one of the most unique and interesting take on the KH formula and could've become something more interesting if experimented with more. However as the second entry in the series it's definitely jarring, the command deck system makes way more sense as a simplification of the normal KH experience.

This was a well crafted video but I personally disagree with a lot of it and I think the fundamentals of perception is a bit misconstrued. I have a few bits of criticism I wanted to address with my own thoughts:
Outside of just the beginning with the feeling of Disney being "ashamed" of Kingdom Hearts, it's really not like that. In fact, series director Tetsuya Nomura has gone on record to say back in 2018 that they were interested in doing a movie, and this is before the Mario Movie and everything else. The lack of Kingdom Hearts in the "Disney norm" of places like Disney World is not actually of shame, but of respect. Disney owns Kingdom Hearts fully as an IP, but they genuinely do not do much with the series because, and this is a genuine quote from a friend who was a former Disney executive "they never felt like they owned it," which coming from this absolute mega media conglomerate is a powerful statement. Pretty much everything is just run by Tetsuya Nomura, who already is very busy with his numerous other projects and whatnot, and outside of all that the beginning statement was just... Wrong? Sora coming to Smash was a huge deal and one made of intense respect and dignity, and something Disney was more than enthused to be apart of. There also actually is genuine Kingdom Hearts Merch at the Disney parks, they just aren't as obvious as a plushie or a hat. Usually it's pins, magic bands and the smaller stuff.
Anyway, huge opening statement besides, I'm someone with a weird history of Kingdom Hearts. It's one of the only things I had growing up that I genuinely knew, but at the same time absolutely not at all. It's only been until the last 5 years or so I've actually been... "sentient?" and aware of the actual foretelling of the stories, atmosphere, and games themselves. I always just had looked at it purely from the fights without actually the characters. Looking at this from this obscured perspective though, I've come to learn 2 things (in my own personal opinion.)
    1) Times have changed, not the games. What I mean by this is that as the world evolves, so too do all of we. Our ideas, our culture, our surroundings all change and our perspective changes. What we may of taken as genuine as a kid we may look at more cynical now. Going through the entire series with my actual looking into the series, I've found that the core ingredients in terms of story and characters and the basic principles of friendship as you had mentioned formed your way of thinking are all still there. So then why? Why do you feel different about the series?
    2) Quality. The quality is the thing that has drastically shifted. Obviously you can't compare a PSP game to a PS2 game. But when that's been what we had been fed to learn as these things being said as this "important thing to the story" or "the implications of these messages", I think it's a matter of how they've been packaged as something that's there alongside Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, when really there isn't a comparison.
Of course, this is all extremely generalized and there's aspects I'm leaving out but I trust you might understand where I might be coming from.
Overall though, this video was still well crafted and I respect your thoughts thoroughly and I still enjoyed the watch. At the end of the day, only you can form your own opinions and that's just what makes every one of us unique and it's always a pleasure hearing other's perspectives about mutual things we've come to enjoy, at least at one point or another, and it personally is such a shame that you have at least felt this way about the series personally.

I agree with you as well that it probably would have been better to end Sora's main story with 2 & do like FF does from there. But hindsight is 20/20 I guess. Talking about this series is just opening a can of things I don't like to talk about generally.
But to put it very simply.
"I enjoyed the first game for what it was, it felt like what a FF game would feel like as a 3D Action JRPG." It was mostly simple enough, even if some things were a bit... gibberish to me. "Light, Darkness, Heart." and it just, never got better on that front.
Oddly enough, I liked Re: Chain for the gameplay shakeup. It gave more elaboration on the Organization, kind of. And it dealt with a real fear I have. "What if some things I remember, are not as real as I think they are? What if certain things I thought happened, did in fact not?" That topic, hits home. As you get older, it is something that really touches too close.
Also, the best part of it, was literally Riku's portion. But I still just remember. "Smelly Darkness."
"What the fuck does that even mean?" Was all I kept asking. It was more set up for his sense of redemption.
Didn't care for Days. Like, I just didn't. I am one of those Proud. "I do not care about Roxas lmao." And I hated the Prologue to KH2. It goes on way too fucking long.
KH2, I didn't like as much for a few reasons. It was mostly unlocking things for Drive Form. "Are you fucking kidding me? Learning to roll, is a damn near end game skill? Forgetting magic, fine. But fucking... the ability to roll? No, I draw the line there my good sir." And I didn't care for the story. It was diet DMC3. And that isn't a terrible thing to me.
For my channel, when I cared about streaming, I was commissioned to stream this series, the caveat being "Critical Mode where available." So, we started with BBS, KH1, REChain, KH2, and DDD, and finally 3.
The worst thing about BBS to me, was I was dealing with drift on a ps4 controller, so it made a clunky game, feel much worse. That game was fucking Jank, but I weirdly really enjoyed it, especially with the skill system. I have no way to really describe how other than. "I felt rewarded for experimenting where I could." but it also meant the first playthrough was hell, because no idea about the skills.
KH1, played it just find. Couldn't be bothered to grind the Ultima weapon, had my friend do it. Otherwise had fun playing it. Did all the optional bosses as well. We joked about the Xemnas cameo as a Prequal Sith Lord. "Oh no, it's a Prequel Sith Lord!" Somehow won first attempt.
ReChain, The Sora Playthrough was the hardest for me. But it eventually clicked and I had fun with it, BECAUSE it was different. The Riku portion was the most fun to me.
KH2, kinda felt like a slog in some spots. But when it took off in the right areas, I mostly enjoyed myself whenever I was just disconnecting from the plot. "I just do not care, it is dumb bs anyways."
Watched the follow ups to 3D.
"I enjoyed 3D, minus the Rinzler fight due to I get motion sick easily. It does have flaws though gameplay wise, but still felt better than BBS."
I enjoyed the first 3rd of KH3. But it's bad when I need to buy a DLC, so I can turn of the features I hated like attractions. Again, first 3, fucking amazing. And then you get to Frozen and you just feel drained the longer the game goes on. I wanted to tap out by Pirates of the Caribbean. I wasn't having fun. And by time I finished it... I just didn't care.
And then I did the DLC, and was like. "Why wasn't this just the quality for the entire game...?" Annoyed, because it did a lot right. But it doesn't fix the 2/3rds issues I had with the rest of it. It just felt too bloated. But the first 3rd... was a genuinely fun game.
I'm just tired of this series lmfao. Everytime I have issues, I get bs reasons I'm told why I'm not allowed to voice it. It just... sucks that people are like that. Let people agree and disagree rather than try to shut a conversation down.

    • @dyltalksgames
      @dyltalksgames  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

On your last point, a series like this is definitely nostalgic for many people. The Disney element only amplifies that. I think people just shut out any valid complaints or criticisms so they can keep their childhood "perfect".

    • @CosmicChris
      @CosmicChris 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@dyltalksgames I grew up playing these, and I don't really have nostalgia for them. I know that sounds weird, but I have more nostalgia for classic Resident Evil games, doesn't stop me from tearing into them when there are design choices I didn't like.
The reason is. In my opinion "There was more problem solving involved. While RE1 Classic is cheesy, it was so in a funny way. RE2 was an iconic step up for any series. Sorta like FF4 to 7. They cover some of the same ground, but there is just a presentational difference in quality. Both are great. I loved Code Veronica as well. It had characters I invested in, even if Steve could be annoying." There was more to solve that wasn't complete gibberish, so it stuck with me way more.
It is a lack of maturity on their part in my opinion. Criticism is a very healthy thing to have. Yes, we sometimes lack the words to accurately describe what we mean. And sometimes we even go "What the fuck, this is awful." And have a hard time stating why, but we understand the feeling of frustration associated with such a conclusion.
KH3, was fucking bland to me after Monsters Inc. The beginning stuff, the Toy Box, all the way to Monster's Inc stuff? Great. Nothing overstayed it's welcome to the point of Tedium. And the gimmicks there, were also fine in context, and didn't overstay. That is where the game balance was at it's best on Proud. "It was mostly fair. The options were there too for you to alternate how you chose to handle it." You got to use Toys like mechs and just absolutely chunk things. It was fun, and didn't border too hard on boring Musso fantasy. "The balance was just right."
And when that balance is done improperly, you have that disconnect. Because you no longer care what is happening. It is just padding to you at that point. And that is what most of that game felt like. "Padding." Not the exciting type either. Just the "God fucking damn it, here we go again..."
Sorry for the long comment and long reply. It's rare I get to openly talk about this without people trying to crucify me.

As somebody who has played kingdom hearts 1 & 2 since they came out in 2002 & 2005, on the Playstation 2 when they released, I can tell you for a fact, kingdom hearts started declining in the late 2000s & 2010s when the games kept releasing on mobile gaming devices, I was only a kid back then, but even then I felt the series was being ruined by releasing such a amazing series on Nintendo ds & the psp, they should have just moved to the next console generation at that time, the ps3

17:49 Last comment I swear, but calling Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days, and DDD especially bridge games instead of… you know mainline entry’s that further the overall plots of the game is the reason why you may feel like that. It’s the reason why everyone talks about the mobile games being important, because with the slightest exception to Recoded since it’s truly important story beats comes at the end, all those “bridge” games hold important value to all the characters that were in it.

Appreciate all the comments. To be fair, I didn’t go into those games thinking they were bridge games. I gave them all a fair shot and I bought them all the day they came out because I was a kid who loved Kingdom Hearts. But even back then I could tell they didn’t have much story to offer. It’s like I said in the video, if a 20-30 hour RPG is only offering me 2-3 hours of vital plot/lore information, that’s kind of annoying. But that’s just my opinion of course.

In my opinion, the problem with Kingdom Hearts (Aagain, after 2) was that the series was taken way more seriously than it needed to be. It didn't need a star wars treatment. It wasn't some grand story. It should have been some dumb romp with a surprisingly fun battle system. It has Sora interacting with Disney characters and for some reason, the occasional final fantasy character shows up. Now we have plot so convoluted that you have to wonder why they would put this much effort into an E rated game that was originally for kids. Kingdom Hearts was THE series that killed time as a plot device in games that didn't originally have time as a plot device for me. Honestly, they should have done what you stated. Moved on to a new character and have him/her have adventures (Which technically you could call Birth by Sleep the type of game I'm actually looking for) and new plot with maybe some easter eggs from each other here or there. I don't think the Kingdom Hearts series is ever going to get rid of Sora and the gang and that will ultimately lead to stagnation with the few people that are still die hard fans of the series.

    Observations:
2:20 There lies your first mistake: Days and reCoded. Those games had better gameplay than they had plot, cutscenes-only is the most cursed way to experience them.
5:30 1FM fixed this by adding more attack modifiers: slide dash, slapshot, hurricane break, ripple drive, zantetsuken, etc.
(and KH2 had those by default, although 2FM did add a lot of incredible modifiers that Osaka had no choice but to copy and paste them for ReFixed, cause they couldn't come up with anything that good themselves)
6:35 KH2 improved many things, but it wasn't perfect. KH1 still did a few things better.
7:00 Using the F word is a surefire way to get canceled by the sensitivity mods online. (cause it's the truth)
11:10 Not gonna say anything, just watch the ReCoded part at the end: th-cam.com/video/0Tg47P6lPo4/w-d-xo.html
13:10 The original plan was to port the DS games, but after the idea got scrapped in Days they didn't even try in reCoded. (you can tell cause Days did 1:1 cutscenes meant to fit into the game while reCoded took more liberties and had "cutscene combat" also the Xion tripping patch was a thing)
17:30 Reason this happened is simple: money.
21:50 BBS was Osaka's first ORIGINAL game, their first job in the series was the re:CoM. (which explains where they got the deck and shitty frame data from)
22:35 There is a 3rd Option actually: Hokkaido Artists Network & Development (HAND) the guys who made the DS games. They also worked on TWEWY Neo and honestly there's more potential there than meets the eye.

I’m my opinion I think the story is actually easier to follow than what people think at least in terms of its lore. It’s not that difficult if you really put the time in especially since it’s a little easier nowadays. I guess it depends on how much someone is willing to follow it. Lol I will say the more difficult ease of access of the titles back in the day made it harder for people to play the side games at the time so it’s a little understandable from that sense.

In terms of sales, yes it’s more successful. Any game with the title “Kingdom Hearts 3” would have sold a ton of copies because it’s the game millions of people waited over a decade for. As for the “handheld bad” comment, sounds like you didn’t watch my 3 minute segment where I tear apart Birth By Sleep, Re Coded and Dream Drop Distance with valid game design complaints. Also, more people are buying and playing video games today than ever. By your logic, Final Fantasy 15 is better than the original 6 or 7.

The main reason why there was so many handheld games at the time was because the developers couldn't start on KH3 until after Final Fantasy Vs XIII was released and Square at the time was going through a lot of issues behind the scenes. like you mentioned they were unfamiliar with the new graphics engine for the PS3 era but Square also had the 'bright' idea to try to create their own in-house engine called Crystal Tools... which fucked them over big time and left many games in their catalog with issues, once that happened all hands in Square had to be on deck to help out with those games.

Im getting a Brain aneurysm from reading these comments.
Ya'll can have your own oppinion and thats okay, but ya'll just seem so blinded by Nostalgia, like Holy shit.
Appreciate Kingdom hearts for what it is, the characters haven't gotten worse and no, KH2 isn't the (objectively seen) greatest Kingdom hearts game.
Anyone who doesn't get the story just got into it the wrong way and or gave up halfway through, because whether you like it or not, understanding Kingdom hearts isn't that hard.
I won't be watching this vid because Im already seeing comments like "I agree KH2 should've been the end of the series" LIKE WHAT THE F*CK DUDE, cool that you'd like to be left on a cliffhanger, I personally don't.
Like geez, I want my storys to be resolved mf.
And I also wanna see through what this story is telling, I find it interesting and enjoyable, if you can't do that please take your shit and back the f*ck off this franchise for your own good, you had your fun don't have to take it from others.
Share your oppinion, sure, but don't force onto others.
It ain't good to dwell on shit that you don't like anyway.
And It's even worse to make others who like it feel like their stupid for liking what they like.
I mean thats just the internet in a nutshell, but my point is:
Everythings bullshit, form your own oppinion, enjoy what you enjoy, stay away from what you dislike.
How ironic to tell people that everythings bullshit and their supposed to make their own oppinion, while at the same time also forcing my own oppinion onto them and stating it as a fact.
Eh, I can live with that contradiction.
Maybe I shouldn't be writing this shit while sleep deprived and massively sick.
F*ck everything, I hate the Internet, Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's gonna die. Might as well enjoy some wacky shit like Kingdom Hearts while Disneys still alive.
To live is to consume shit we like, otherwise you're just an inert chunk of randomly assembled molecules drifting wherever the universe blows you until your finite clock reaches it's end and suddenly nothing what once mattered, matters anymore and everything that never mattered seems like a missed chance to make an expierence that could've mattered.
I think what Im trying to get at here is, I should really stop trying to share my oppinion on the internet.
Maybe we all should at that, but then again, thats just my oppinion.
Edit: After reading the title I just wanted to add a *F"CK YOU* to this comment and say the franchise is still alive and kicking, its greater than ever and im enjoying every second of it, DOWNFALL MY ASS B*TCH

Way too many of these statements were way too opinionated, and I get that making fun of average content for being not the best thing ever might being one of your things, but this is an awful critique of somethings that you, and many other viewers and players alike, have no real personal connection to. I liked Birth By Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, Days, and one day I hope to play Re:Coded, you may call this a dark age, but the original Kingdom Hearts is not much better than Birth By Sleep.

All of your complaints are because lore in this game has misteries that are solved or developed with other games other than 1, 2 and 3, as those revolve arround the PROTAGONIST who is SORA and his power of Waking getting developed. The Power of Waking is the hability that Sora, Riku and King Mikey have. With the power of waking you can do many things and I hope I don't get them wrong.
The first one is teleporting to places in time and space where your friends hearts are located, kinda similar in how other people use objects (like Brains hat or Maleficents coat) to travel through time.
The second one is resurecting peoples hearts not long after they are deseased, like Sora did in KHIII with Kairy.
I personally think the power of waking is also linked with "freeing the worlds" and all the stuff with the locks you do in KH 1, 2 and 3

    @TheAzulmagia 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

In my opinion, Kingdom Hearts' story started to go downhill with Birth by Sleep. Prior to that point, the stories were very personal despite being world-saving adventures. The focus was always on the interpersonal relationships that had been built up throughout the series. But then BBS comes along and basically inserts a whole new cast of characters who have relationships that are barely fleshed out, ultimately have limited connection to the cast from previous games due to being a prequel with a forgotten cast, and turns Xehanort into Sosuke Aizen. Now the remainder of the series is trying to awkwardly juggle this added on element and winds up doing things like turning Sora into a Messianic figure who has to save everyone instead of just being a kid who happened to be in the right place at the right time to get a power that let him save his friends.

Personly I lived kh 3. And i can tell you that mostt issues in the plot come from Mistranslations. Nonura isnt happy about the way the Story gets translatet sometimes but cant Do anything about that.
The translators sometimes Do what they want becaus ther work with a litle loophole.
Also recoded mightvaculy forshadow future plotpoints for the lost Master arc when it comes to Riku and Sora as the Story is ultimatly about ther Growth
Also ther is no Osaka Team. Its just simply that at the time this new Team wantet to try out making a KH Team and by this point members that worked on KH 1 and 2 ar part of that Team
Ther also helped out on FF16.
When it comes to the plot its just alot to remember and full of mistranslations that muddle the experience. These Stack up and you get to the point ypu ar in
So i understand you checked out.
Its also Not bad if you just outgrow the series and just see it as childish.
Nomura has a ending in mind for this series though so mayby someday you atleast get to see That ending for Soras Story. ( KH is a series wher Sora will be the Main hero untill its end)

Don't like the direction then move on. No need to rant with horrible KH2 propaganda. You have no right to make fun of DDD when you praise 2 a game with stagger that hardly lets you stagger bosses and bosses have barely any openings and some force you to use a tool on a limited resource that being reflect when ou should be able to just block a majority of attacks and be able to get openings even when reflect is unavailable and some are super unfun and sora is not built to fight alot of them. Dark thorn is awful, geni jafar sucks, luxord sucks, xigbar and xaldin suck to fight against, Drive forms punish you for attacking by draining faster in combat and anti form should not exist to punish people for experimenting and having fun not to mention important movement abilities locked behind the forms and the forms taking centuries to grind and magic feels awful to use like look how they massacred fire magic. Space paranoids sucks as a world due to some enemies and the first boss, pridelands is awful, Experiment in halloweentown is only fun phase 2, guard breaks happen way to often in 2 and all the praise you give it you never point out teh fact and others miss this which is you are praising mainly 2fm not 2. Also the data fights are just the same as the original fights with the org members jus tnow they have more health and some are bugged out like vexen when talking 2fm and a majority of the world bosses mmake you play some lame minigame to get openings and reaction commands suck to use and battle of 1000 heartless as cool as it was sucks in the gameplay department especially when playing level 1 crit where you don't have 2nd chance and once more unlike KH1 and 3 where you get those 3 with accessory system from getting it as a reward from frozen slider minigame and flash tracer course and is extremely easy to obtain making endgame never one shot you at level 1 crit and you never deal chip damage while 2 level 1 crit it feels like you deal chip damage even with the best keyblades and 1 on the 0 exp ability. If tokyo team never returns good cause they don't know how to make combat post Kh1. H.A.N.D i would love to see help with combat in a future game given how fun Neo Twewy and Recoded can be. Osaka team learned from mistakes they made in the past and made some of the best gameplay in the series with KH3. Stagger endurance is a great mechanic for big bosses, Revenge Value system is almost perfect in 3 with the humanoid bosses and finally there is more emphasis on teh disney worlds again with platforming and puzzles starting to come back with fun little treasure hunts that reward exploration. Only thing i dislike about the direciton of the story is mainly the tie ins to the mobile games and the mobile games being such huge important entries to the series. Would rather they had made mobile games actual playable console titles given how good the mobile game stories are especially and looking at how good missing link looks imagine if it was just a fully fleshed out non gatcha console game in the style of like a KH MMO. Sounds really cool to me. Also when talking about story 1's is good but foreshadowed teh whole direction it went after 2 if you bothered reading the ansem reports and already had some "convoluted" stuff, 2 story is better having played days but they did a bad job with sora's character, DDD Sora is great, KH3 has the best sora since KH1 and there was no way the finale could have been perfrect given the circumstances that happened with 3. BBS gameplay is awful but story is amazing. Days is not that bad and its super important to kh2 at least so it deserved better and the only reason days and recoded are not replayable is either 1 or 2 had their source coding lost iirc idk all teh dev circumstances. Also there are no actual bridge games in KH or spinoffs exactly. Every game aside from recoded is important to the story.

Yeah they're somewhat complete stories but i don't only care about story i want gameplay too. With KH while the spin-offs may be different it kinda keeps fresh going into the next main title and the reason i like the games the amazing music, cool worlds and the combat.
