The RPG That Started A Golden Age

I could definitely lose my religion in final fantasy! With each new video you come out with Im always blown away about the way you make them always feel like I’m right there in the game, or at the developer team’s office meetings bringing the game together. Also take me back to this era.
@@Thegvldenboy Thanks for watching!
Still going through the video but I have some comments on part 1: 1. A game being $50 back then but $90 by today’s standard is irrelevant to how much it costs today. You’re forgetting that a) people have become accustomed to 50-60 dollars for decades so it’s understandable they’d be jarred by a $10 increase, especially when we all know that even the $60 games are not worth $60. b) inflation and prices have gone up but salaries don’r reflect the prices going up. People’s purchasing power is weaker than back then. So in a way $70 today feels more than $50 back then. 2. The movie theater thing is a bad example. You’re not paying that much to watch a movie. You’re paying that much for the experience. It’s a night out. It’s like saying you can go to a theme park or buy a video game that you own forever. Yeah it’s cheaper to buy a game but I’m not there JUST to watch a movie. I’m there for the experience to watch it with friends in a crowded theater, otherwise I’d have waited for a blu-ray or a subscription service to carry it.
@@cantstandya9749 Thanks for taking the time to watch and reply. 1. While I understand what you’re saying that people have gotten used to $60 dollars, that doesn’t erase the facts. $60 buys you less and less at the grocery store. It also buys you less gas for your car. Going out to eat, going to the movies, buying a vinyl record- they’ve all increased in prices. So why not games? We can’t forget that people MAKE these games, so in order to make sure they can also feed their families just like we do, it makes sense for prices to go up. 2. To each their own. I would argue that watching a movie in your clean and quieter home with access to cheaper food options, AND the ability to pause is infinitely more valuable than the movies. But I respect the theater experience.
@@dyltalksgames anytime! It was a great video. 1. You said it yourself though, $60 buys you less at the grocery store today than it did back then. The minimum wage hasn’t really changed but prices are going up. It makes sense for game prices to go up but it’s also understandable that people will find it harder to spend $70 on a game today since they’re making basically the same amount they did a decade ago but their money is just worth less. Personally, I care about game quality more than game length but $60 for Silent Hill 2 Remake, an 8 hour game with no real replay value, is tough. I’ll wait for a sale. If it had the same replay value as Resident Evil, I’d gladly pay $60. 2. I guess we’ll just have to disagree here. It is more comfortable to watch a movie at home at your own pace and all but at the same time it’s expected that you’ll be paying a decent amount of money for a night out. Drinking at home doesn’t hit the same as drinking at a bar for example and ordering pasta through an app isn’t the same as going to a nice place with someone and having dinner

chain of memories was fine because you could play 1 and 2 and still get the idea of what happened in the DS game without playing it. there are 6 games between 2 and 3, so you don’t go into 3 as seamlessly as you did with 2
I 100% agree with you, it was my favorite licence before botw now i don’t think i will be buying the new games anymore

Wish I could share your feelings regarding the Switch. For me, aside from Animal Crossing NH, it was kind of a disappointment. So many times I got temped because <name of game> was being ported to Switch, and so many times I got absolutely disappointed. I'm not sure which ports you played that were stable, or maybe it is because I have the Switch Lite, but most ports ran like crap for me. The idea of Borderlands 3 on a handheld for example was insane. I craved for it. And then when it finally released, it sucked. It is literally unplayable. Not only because of the freezes and frame drops, but also because.. well frankly the Switch thumbsticks suck. At least voor FPS games they do. It felt like a world full of promises that eventually turned out to be yet another Nintendo console that runs Nintendo games well (Pokemon aside..) but runs everything else like crap. What Animal Crossing NH did for me and my family is something I have never experienced before. It brought me and my older sister closer together again and eventually included half the family. That was pure magic. But that was also the only experience on Switch that I fully remember in a good way. Also Nintendo still not having their own achievement system by now is just.. I have no words for it. They even implement it in some of their own games but then refuse to make it a console wide thing. Finally, given the fact that the Switch 2 hardware was already outdated at the time of it's leak in 2021, and it still hasn't been released in 2024, just makes me feel like it will be the same shit on a different console again. Yes, Nintendo games will run great.. but the majority of other, more graphically intens games won't. To think that my current ROG Ally is already more powerful than a console that has not been released yet is just frustrating. And even the Ally is by far not strong enough to run every game very stable.
Amazing video and nice editing. You deserve more subscribers !!

I hear that Waterworld SNES music. This video really captures those feelings really well of the early Switch era. Hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since it came out Hopefully Nintendo's new console beefs up the power to bring it in line with more modern titles. Super cool to see PSPMan in this!
From the rumors it sounds like it's going to be between PS4 Pro and a Steam Deck. Anything less and I'd be very disappointed.
I had my first Zelda game back in 1998, Link’s Awaking for GBC and I was hooked on the series from that point. I played ever Zelda game from there onward and loved each one until TP. To me it just felt mediocre and did didnt have the same magic feel to it that the previous games did. Then SS came out and I played it but didn’t like it, then then it just got worse and worse to me, to the point where I dont even recognize the series anymore. Imo peak Zelda was from ALTTP - Minish Cap. After that it deviated so much that it completely alienated older fans like myself. And its sad to know that Nintendo will likely never make Zelda games like the 90’s/early 2000’s stuff ever again😢
Yeah I really can't stress how much the Switch was able to come along and eat the Vita's Lunch. So many ports that came to Vita were not optimized correctly, and if they were it wasn't heavy hitters. Vita has a ton of great indie games and some cool exclusives, but the Switch has a ton of great everything. I made the Switch my main, and likely final, console for a reason. It's just good.
Nintendo is always slept on even though they’re doing the industry’s most innovative and concept breaking gaming instruments. This video got me excited for what’s next too.

I remember exactly when Nintendo dropped the tweet the night before of Mario peeking around the curtain and saying the reveal would be the following morning. And even though I was in class at school I kept refreshing their YT on my phone over and over until I saw it and it was so exciting such a breath of fresh air away from the dire WiiU/3ds era. It felt like they were finally going to be taken seriously again in the industry, and now maybe they're a little too praised, but still... it was a great feeling. Great vid!
@@davidsondoliver It’s really crazy how one trailer changed everything. And of course the product delivered on greatness. Thanks for watching!

No one asked me if I thought old Zelda is stale I enjoyed every game and was just happy to have it. What I did have an issue with was how heavy it was on tradition in world and story which botw kept but the worst incarnation of these characters. Save maybe Zelda but the storytelling was an anime made for 5 year olds so that foundation for a good character is a waste. Like pokemon creativity and laziness was the issue and no amount of tinkering or canning old gameplay can save it. Needed more Majora's Masks and Links Awakening not another skyward sword. There's a creativity issue and it's still here. Side note me and every other loser who thought getting everything first was gonna get us some creative puzzles now they can assume we have everything got clown makeup on our face.

Reanalyzing history is a good thing. The internet is good at doing that, but they’re also good at lying haha. Triggering seems to be the #1 activity of commenters and creators and the platforms push it. So yeah you’re right man, all this hate is just to rile people up.
You woke up and decided to start speaking fax
People really disliked TLOU2 so much (whether for valid reasons or not) that they completely revised their own feelings about the company. I see this type of thing happen in music too. An artist will release one bad / divisive album and suddenly the framing is “they were never good”. It’s weird behavior.
It really shows you that it can happen to anyone. Who knows, with FromSofts next game they might become the next hated company! We almost saw a taste of that within the first week of Erdtree.
the first TLOU game remains beloved, idk why you spent so much time on that. Most of the hate is from their actions in the last 5 years. You gotta be blind to not see naughty dogs wokeness. They put their political agenda first, and story second. I mean a trans character in a post apocalyptic, savage cult, worried about pronouns. like c'mon 😂. They were already pushing it with the 2 little girls making out, but they had to go a step further and add a trans kid. And then with the show, instead of giving Ellie and Joel much needed screen time, they had a whole episode about 2 gay side characters. Like I'm watching as a fan of the first game, and I don't remember the part where 2 grown men get naked and rub their hairy chests together. I'm not tryna see tht shit. I think their hate is very much deserved. They dug their own grave.
Ill never understand saying stupid things online for validation from random people who don't care about you.
@@maxsingleton8515 I’ll never understand why so many people genuinely like to be outraged.
100% agree, I couldnt stand the manufactured hate for TLOU. I also think that anyone whos against something cause of their own bigoted positions just shouldnt be taken seriously at all.
I want you to know the rumor about the girl being trans was so widespread this is how I found out it wasn't true.
@@PSPMan That’s crazy! It’s been 4 years lol.

Thank the lord someone is talking about this. So many games feel bloated nowadays, even BG3 and TotK which I truly love have quite a bit of bloat, BG3 in it's itemization/loot system which just eats away hours over a whole run and TotK with the depths and overabundance of some side-content. Persona 5 Royal (which I played somewhat recently) had so much bloat it definitively broke me, I didn't even play FF7: Rebirth because I knew how bloated it would be. Not a lot of people talk about it, but man do I wish gamedevs would stop putting stuff in to simply make a game longer.
12:10 I'm surprised no one mentioned Genshin Impact. Although the similarities are very surface level, that didn't stop every Zelda fan from having a breakdown over it
I have only bought 4 Atlus games persona 5 royal, persona 5 strikers, persona 4 golden, and first one to preorder physically was SMT vengeance but currently hitting up my backlog, but i definitely feel for the hardcore fans who have bought the games day one and probably did again with expansion or rereleased, but when i saw royal port to ps5 i was sure as heck not getting that $60 frame boost.
@@AD3SPG Yep! I wrote about this on my blog. It’s very annoying. They should offer an upgrade path at the very least.
Oh LMAO I just read it, but damn they really are milking P5 a lot so definitely wouldn't surprise me if they release p6 and 3-5 year later release a new edition, I can see only one reason they do this and it because they take so long so imagine buying P5 with a season pass and having to wait almost 4-5 years for a dlc and paying so many years ahead time, but it is a bad practice but it's "better" then what Activision/blizzard do.
@@dyltalksgames You may already know but person 5 X was announced to come to consoles also but it's a live service spin off 🤦🏽♂️, could be fun but rarely mess around with gotcha's.

@@Thegvldenboy Thank you, my friend. You always have the kindest words!
I think there needs to be a middle ground of open world and a structure gameplay, ie. a hybrid of both the new and old Zelda gameplay. A perfect example of a good open world game is Red Dead Redemption 2. RDR2 has a good balance of an free open world game and a structured main story. Zelda should follow this formula. Dungeons and main story quests should be done in sequence like you explained with the "old Zelda flow" diagram. More of the open world can open up as the story progresses. And just like RDR2 which BOTW has, players can explore the world to tame different horses, go hunting, find new equipment, find quests, explore towns or small farms, etc. Unlike RD2, the new Zelda's open world feels way too empty. So following a similar formula like a rockstar game, especially RDR2 with Zelda elements integrated, would make the most ideal Zelda IMO.
Such a waste of time. The diamond survives all the dust.
