I've done this drill many times since this shooting happened, but one thing I threw in, is sprinting to a point of cover like Eli did that day, he ran to a nearby pole for cover/support before firing on the POS. Either way great drill for every one to practice, Eli Dickens is a warrior!
nice, I have a tree right around my 39 yard point, think I'll start at 50 and sprint to the 40 yard tree and see what I can do. Haven't done it yet, but was practicing at 25 today just to get ready, I haven't shot at 40 yet.
Also, a lot of consideration needs to given to the startle factor and disorientation when a violent event starts to unfold. I mean you are sitting there eating your chicken ssmmich and all hell breaks loose. You have to overcome all that to observe what is actually happening, process it in the brain housing group, then decide to act/respond. We give this guy a lot of credit, but I think he deserves 10x more.
No one can duplicate, copy or repeat what Mr. Dicken accomplished. Taran and the rest of the people running this drill would agree. The best we can do is train for every conceivable encounter. Longer distances, shorter times and carry pistols. Eli Dicken, Jack Wilson and the lady at the block party proved we need to train harder and be prepared every time and everywhere.

Remember this boy was in a mall with a man armed with an AR and I'm sure he didn't train as much as Taran does. Try that drill with someone aiming an AR that can reach out and touch you and a mall full of screaming running and dying people. That's what makes this truly incredible

I just went to a POST firearms instructor update a few weeks ago where we did this drill. It was new for me, but I liked it so much I'm adding it to my training. I did it with an M17 with Wilson grips all 10 rounds in 8 seconds. Usefull training.

Tried it several times. Best I can do is 7/10. Lot harder than it looks. Imagine doing it under stress. Dickens has set a new standard for us shooters to look up to. This should be a standard drill for pistol shooters. The days of shooting from 3, 5 and 7yds are over Badass hero in my book.
Everyone is doing the dickens with full size guns! Try it with a smith shield or p365 size CARRY gun… not saying taran is a bad shot or anything, he is a god at operating a firearm
Those aren't carry guns. They are tick tack sized guns made for the hands of women or children. Many people still carry normal sized guns, just like people have been doing for the past 150 years.
Ignored by those now shouting about the Dickens drill, was that he was moving , then shot from support and that the target was a rifle shooter presenting an angled , not full frontal target.
I've been shooting my Walther pdp at 120' and 160yds for last couple years religiously. Who would think that it might be a real thing, the 160yd 39"x28" target I'm getting 3 or 4 outta ten but not in under a minute. I'm hoping I wouldn't need to go 160 yds with handgun as the AR has its purpose but the 100 footer is getting punished with mag dump after mag dump. Good job kid, you saved alot of lives and I hope you become a SF or Seal. All my guests have laughed at the distances when they come out to shoot and a hero kid under massive duress facing a armed threat with long gun does it flawlessly while getting people back behind him. Savage kid just savage, fyi all my guests want to come shoot the 100 footer now and walk it back another 40' to practice the dickens drill.

If anyone can replicate it, it would be Taran. But Dickens is not Taran. Dickens did not have the seasoned experience of Taran. How did he do it? Under such stressful circumstances... A super amazing feat, truly.

1) It's Dicken, not Dickens. 2) Eli fired his first 2 shots from a stabilized position (the top of a trash can) from approximately 40 yards away. He was forced to stop shooting as bystanders ran in front of his muzzle. He then had an opportunity to fire 2 more shots from that position. 4 shots, 2 hits. Dicken then moved to approximately 20 yards where he fired 4 more shots. All 4 were hits. Then, he closed the distance to about 7 yards for the last two shots. Both were hits.
No doubt this young man needs to be commended and recognized for what he did, his composure under huge pressure saved many lives. Do we know what Glock was he using? I’ve heard several models… thanks for sharingTaran.

I could only hit 9 with my Shield since that's all it holds! Without some vision correction or a red dot and a lot of luck, 9 isn't happening anyway!
