Many thanks Melissa for making the effort compiling this. It is 3 hours from my place in Southern Germany to Vallorbe I just found out :-) "What did you do the weekend?" "Travelled to Switzerland buying files". Well, why not?
Awesome video! I appreciate that you covered all of the files in a clear and concise manner. I had many questions before viewing and now I'm much better informed.
Great video. Very concise - thank you. Could you describe what you use to clear your files, specifically interested in clearing needle files when working with softer metals like aluminium that can clog the files - thanks!
Sometimes I use a brass sheet and run cross wise to the teeth to help push out any debris. You can also use a needle to work between the teeth. It is a bit time consuming, but quite effective.
Great info! I have a question. what is the diameter of the round Vallorbe needle files? I looks as if they taper, at the tip. Is the fat part 1/8" and the tip 1/16"? Thanks!
As usual a great and informative video , however I would like to make the point that just because the files are stamped Swiss made it does not meant they are Swiss made, there are counterfeits coming out of China that "look" identical, the way to be sure is to by from reputable dealer that stands buy their merchandise
Hello Melissa, I'm a chainsaw man from New Zealand looking for a vallorbe flat file with a serrated edge or side, not a beveled edge. If you happened to know its # I'd appreciate the info. This is for square ground chain filling which can create a sharper tooth than a round file. much appreciated.
I love vallorbe valtitan files for reprofiling hardened axeheads and even knife blades which have much higher HRC. They cost quite a bit but fill a very specific niche where you want good material removal without heat accumulation like when working hardened steel.
+Melissa Muir You are welcome. Have no clue about producing Videos, but live in this lovely country called "Switzerland" and know some basic English ;-)
Great video, and super helpful information! Thanks, Melissa. Otto Frei, you really need to fix the subtitle transcriptions on all of your videos. They are a real mess, and hideously inaccurate.
HAHA, I just turned on the captions. I will have to see if there is a way to fix them. It is automatically generated. So it isn't anything I did or Otto Frei.

Which would I choose? Oh, just let me loose; I'll take 'em all!
Thanks Melissa! What's the best way to care for files?

My valtitan files have saved me more than once with the hard metals.
Are these really hardened to 65 hrc? I make knives and if they are it would be an inexpensive way to test my heat treatment.
Thank you.
The Man I have no way of testing that myself, but it is what they claim.
Melissa Muir Great. Thank you for the reply! I guess I’ll just have to take their word for it.
The best factory made files on the market, hands down, the only thing ive had better were my own handcut made with 1095, and some 50s era Atkins.

wendyannh thank you. Were there transcriptions on this video? I haven't added any and I have never seen any come up on it.
