- Over the last few years, we've been recapping the on-going adventures of Edward Carnby in the Alone in the Dark series. It has become a Halloween tradition. So, now that we've investigated Derceto, survived Hell's Kitchen and uncovered the secrets of Slaughter Gulch, it's time for the private eye to do something he's never done before -- hit the reset button. That's right, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is a reboot of the franchise, finally bringing Carnby into the 21st century. It has a whole new story, new attitude, new characters and none of the old timey baggage from the first three games. Turn back now if you don't want to know what happens next, because today we're going to spoil the story and ending for Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. This is Game Over: The Early Years!

I have a lot of nostalgia for this one despite its flaws and quirks. I remember being a kid and actually being spooked by this one.
The answer is obviously 'hell yes!'. This goes triple now that Atari no longer owns the franchise, THQ Nordic does. I wouldn't trust modern Atari if my life depended on it, but THQ Nordic rocks and seems to respect franchises it acquires. Plus, we've already seen that the concepts still work; we've recently gotten several games that flirt with similar atmosphere (Call of Cthulhu) and/or mechanics (Song of Horror) and they're great.
Can't wait 2022 and seeing you to tackle the next one, it's always been my 'guilty pleasure'. As in, my brain tells me there's too much wrong with it for me to recommend without reservations, but its so atmospheric I love it anyway.
I enjoyed New Nightmare for what it is, and It was suppose to be the beginning of another trilogy, but those plans got scrapped, which is unfortunate. I feel the series would've been in far better shape had they just proceeded with the New Nightmare reboot trilogy. The 2008 game and 2015 Illumination were so bad, they virtually killed the series. So, it's an amazing miracle that Alone in the Dark 2024 got made which is now possibly the best game in the series thanks to modern gameplay & graphics, and being a faithful & respectful homage to the 1992 original.
Omg! The steam version doesnt show you that final cutscene! I finished the game last night and thought the ending was stupid, they run into the tunnel and the credits start. Even other reviews of this game complain about it. Thanks for enlightening me!

Oh trust me, this isn’t the last we’ll hear of Carnby hitting the reset button, at least three more times, once in the 360/ps3 era, and again as a co-op game of some kind. Most recently THQNordic, now the current IP holder, has revealed as of yet another reboot, this time going back to the bayou in the 20’s

Hardest part of surviving Hell's Kitchen was Gordon Ramsay. Oh, wait, wrong Hell's Kitchen. Just wait, maybe next year, I'll be making a Freddy reference to this game. 😉😂 As for the question, sure I'll like to see him come back, specially if Aline joins up again too. When you were breaking down this story, Aline's seemed more interesting, with the mirror ghost and all.
I have a copy of this on dreamcast and never popped it in.

From my understanding this isn't really a full on reboot more so a continuation as all the events of the original games are canon to this game or at least were until the other reboot in 2008 which retcons this game entirely. Part of the reason being that the original Edward is alive in the 2008 game where as the Edward in this game is just someone who adopted the name. To be honest I'd rather view them as two separate timelines one of which that is good.

interesting game. never played this. i feel like this was the name of a game on ps3. which was horrible.
mixed reviews on steam, apparently has resolution issues and graphics are not as good as dream cast (how!?)
there was a review that shared a fix for resolution on windows 10 though.
You should review rrootage reloaded for switch its a remaster of a boss rush bullet hell shmup game from 2003 also it has 160 boss fights and 4 game modes so basically 600 its also 5 dollar
First time playing, just got this game from goodwill for 1.99 and really like it! I have a hard time playing Aline she keeps dying on me,,,but still Fun
