Who is the "Ctein" co-author of Saturn Run? Sounds like an alien! I can say The Wrong Stars is a fairly easy read for beginner sf readers. What's a good "comfy scifi" read like Becky Chambers? I wish they would put that on tv. All these grimdark shows are depressing me.
The synopsis for Saturn Run actually makes me think a little more of Hail Mary with the race to investigate and save the planet--but still that's Andy weir so seems like a great recommendation to me--totally picking this up!! Very interested in Here and Now and Then, too
Thank you for the suggestions. Of the books you selected, I’ve only read The Martian. (I think ‘devoured’ might be a more accurate description; I couldn’t put it down.) A book I picked up because I thought it might have a similar appeal is Adrift by Rob Boffard where a short range shuttle is marooned in deep space after it’s station is destroyed. It didn’t turn out to be the survival story I expected but is a good read all the same. I haven’t read any of the others you recommend but I’ve just started The Ghost Line, on your suggestion, and I’ll be sure to add one or two of these titles to my growing ‘To Read List’.
Very nice job. How about a "if you like that try this" suggestion for Old Man's War? Children of Time? Pushing Ice?...not the sequels...similar but different. Thanks!
Excellent, I have added “Saturn Run” and “The Wrong Stars” to my next haul - though I struggled a bit with “ALWtaLP”. I would very much like to see more of these recommendation episodes, particularly when you draw upon older books I may have missed. That’s a bit different from the current hotness freewheeling along in the hypewagon, IYKWIM! So, yes, please, more! Thanks!
I'm reading 'the wrong stars' but it is behind 'wool' and 'the three body problem.' I'm reading at the same time so I can switch at will. Almost done with wool which is a long one.
Glad you mentioned Saturn Run again. I have it, but I forgot I wanted to read it. And I picked up Tim Pratt's books this year, so looking forward to reading these. I'm still working through the reread of The Expanse (halfway thru Cibola Burns), and after bouncing around the Neal Asher Polity universe, I've decided to start reading the rest in the Polity universe in chronological order (Asher has that order on his website for those who wonder how to read them in chronological order). I liked SevenEves. I was expecting something less grand, then when I saw where it was going I kept thinking, "he's not doing that, is he?". He did. And it was an engrossing read. I was getting some Children of Time vibes from it too, in the terms of vast reaches of time.
I also like these types of videos. I prefer the sci-fi ones. Or, how about a crossover where if you like this thriller/horror you might like this sci-fi/fantasy book.
One book series that reminds me of "Wool" is 'The Dead Room Series' by Stephanie Erickson. It is three books: The Dead Room, The Dead World, and Alive. My reviews went from 3-stars to 1in that order so the series lost steam and was disappointing. It was similar to 'Wool' - a society on an island is told never to leave because the mainland is toxic with nano-probes in the atmosphere that are toxic to life. I liked the characters and the villains and the loyalty coalitions and such, as well as the leaders' roles and mystery. Oh and if you read 'Wool' there is a short essay by the author at the end which was quite good. Wool itself was longer than it needed to be and the sequels I may read, but not now.
Just found your channel and am really enjoying it. I also checked your Goodreads page....did you really read 408 books last year :)) that is amazing!! I wish I had the reading speed to accomplish 1/4 of that. Keep up the great vidoes!
I would love to see more videos like this, with other genres. I've heard nothing but good things about We Are Legion, We Are Bob. It's on my radar for sure.
I think I’m the only person left on the panel that hasn’t read The Martian yet. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten to it yet. Oops haven’t read Dark Matter yet either. Doh! I really enjoyed the Axiom series!
Why do I watch these videos?? I'm just going to need to read like half of these now. Lol great video Rachel! And I must say good on you for not recommending Project Hail Mary for The Martian!
Did you miss my Tues video? It's 24 minutes of recommending the best horror of the year. I aim to post 50/50 so stabby books on Tuesday and Sci Fi on Thursday. Sorry to disappoint you but I get burned out when I try to force myself to only read one genre
@@TheShadesofOrange yes ma’am I understand completely I get burned out myself. I guess I missed that one so sorry. I love watching your videos. You do a great job. I guess I’ve been just catching your Syfy ones lately that’s what I get for not keeping up. ☺️
@@christirandazzo3769 thanks I appreciate you being understanding. And yes if you check my video uploads, almost all my Tues videos are "stabby" content but yes I've definitely embraced scifi.
Wow will my reading list ever grow shorter... not with you.... :) I have only read Ready Player One in that list and now all the others are on my Amazon Kindle to buy list... Thank you soo much.
I love these types of comps! always fun to see what someone else connects as 'if you like then you'll like'!
Yes I'm a sucker for these comparison lists
'Long Way' was a lot of fun.
Agreed!
Saturn run is an excellent recommendation. 👍
Such a good one!
Glad to see people talk about Here and Now and Then, loved it when it came out.
Yes I don't see many people talking about it
Nice work. These kind of book recommendations are definitely the most helpful.
Thanks! You should do one of these videos!
Axiom sounds great, will be picking that one up! Saturn run also sounds interesting too
I hope you enjoy them!

Lol yeah I don't know why he doesn't have a first name ... maybe he's like Cher or Madonna haha

Yes I definitely could have paired it with that. I read Saturn Run before Hail Mary came out so I didn't have that book in my head at the time
@@TheShadesofOrange that makes sense! 😊

Oo I've been wanting to check out Adrift for a while now
I'm definitely going to check out The Axiom Trilogy, that sounds right up my alley!
I hope you enjoy it!
I've been meaning to read some Mike Chen. Time travel/time manipulation is my favorite trope.
If you love that trope, you should definitely check out that one

Old Man's War was great, wasn't it?
Oh thanks! Love the suggestions for a future video. I'll start thinking
Yea for fantasy!! I live videos like this
Me too!

Ooo Wool is on my 2022 tbr... hopefully we both enjoy it!

I loved Seveneves. Great recommendations 😊
Definitely one I eventually want to reread

Sounds good! I have anothrr horror one coming
I just picked up"Saturn Run" this past Monday from a library sale. Looking forward to reading it.
Ooh awesome!
I'm reading Velocity Weapon by Megan O'Keefe now., Great book.
Glad you're enjoying it!

Haha yeah I felt that might be a cheat 😅
Great video! I prefer sci fi. I keep meaning to het to the Pratt books.
Thanks!
I'm curious to know if have read Eisenhorn Book 1: Xenos by Dan Abnett. If not would you review it/the series ??
No I haven't read that one
Commenting for the algorithm
I read Saturn run I thought it was interesting
Yes I thought it was fun
Hi Rachel are you doing mainly sci-fi now I’m not seeing much horror anymore. I’m a big horror fan not so much sci-fi I was just wondering.
