Three methods of engraving baseballs

- I tried three different methods of engraving baseballs to minimize scorching. While editing the video, I did realize that the layer I selected had some how been switched to constant power mode. Although that made the edges darker, the method and results worked as I had hoped.
The settings are 120mm/s for uncovered and cermark, 100mm/s for taped. I ran 100 power and forgot to check constant power. I NEVER use constant power on a diode.
For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers.

For me, the easiest way to overcome crease marks in a rounded object is to make cuts in the material around the edges in a sunburst-type pattern. So cut the tape4 as it rounds the ball, overlap it on itself to avoid air pockets. It's a little extra but it's easier to get the air pockets out. BTW Happy Birthday!
Yea, I am just impatient...lol
Happy birthday! It’s a Clack Attack!

@@TheClackShack your welcome!
You could try using narrower tape such as 1/2" wide for lines of text. You may also have better luck smoothing out multiple strips of tape placed edge to edge.
Maybe
I did a baseball a few years ago with a 25w co2 Universal laser. I would try out a ball with lower power settings. I think the ball I did was 100%speed and 80 or 85% power. The logo (marine corps eagle, globe and anchor), came out a nice brown color with no charring. Hope this helps. As someone else mentioned, the price/makeup of the ball will give different results also.
Every blank varies in the manner it burns. This actually surprised me with how cheap the balls were and how thin the outer layer is.
Happy Clack Attack birthday wishes from the Made Its.
Thanks..
May May and Vinie say it's your birthday.

First and foremost thanks for all the video you do a good Job and I enjoy them a lot ! have you thought about trying Borax I have not done any leather but I know on wood you get a darker mark with lower power and no cleanup once again just a thought just.
I tried borax early in my laser days. I find that it creates black powdery dust and can stain wood and other materials. I have a jar of solution and have not used it in over a year. On wood, that fine dust stains the grain
i wonder how customers would feel with the Cermark staining the threading to a "dirty" used ball colour of red?
I didn't go with that approach. You would need to tape the threads up with masking.
Hey Clack… not sure of the dynamics but I have seen folks use Dawn detergent or wet tissue paper like Kleenex on curved glass for etching. Would that work on baseballs?
Just plain works great it appears. Thanks
I haven’t tried it yet but it’s a thought, liquid mask and peel?
Maybe, I would make a mess with that
Did you try getting the char off with a magic eraser? Just curious. Sometimes those things work when nothing else will.
No, I just tried to avoid causing it. The white part of the ball absorbs the coloring
Have you tried using a magic eraser? Also, what is that item you are using to hold the balls? Not the rotary, but the clamp actually holding the ball?
That is the rotary it is the Atomstack chuck that comes with their A30. It is called the R1. I have videos on it. Here it is on Amazon

Not sure if it would work. Never used a Lazer. But would a stretch wrap would. It would conform to the shape rather tighty. Depending on how hard you pull it. Frist thing I could think of.
Not sure how that would work once it was cut
@@TheClackShack it was a thought. But now that I think about it a little more. I don't think it would be a good idea
Hello sir. Do you have a contact for questions? I was wondering if you have a settings list for all the coated tumblers. Thx
Tumblers vary from batch to batch and different colors. I do testing often.
There is a product in the medical field called liquid skin, I’m wandering if that would work?
It might, between the masking and cermark, I should be able to do all I need.
How about using a vinyl wrap?
I don't do vinyl
Sorry, if this is a repeat question, but would your thoughts be on using one of xTool S1 units with their rotary device? 40w, 20w or 2w?
th-cam.com/video/3_DpaqIFVaY/w-d-xo.html
Power output depends on preference. I like the 40 watt
Sorry to bother you with another stupid question but what glasses do you use? I’ve posted 3 pairs of laser glasses on a fb page and people keep telling me they aren’t good enough! I’m so confused!?
This is the ones that I have used for over a year…

@@TheClackShack thank you!
Probably an odd question. What if you throw the baseball in the freezer overnight before you put it immediately into the laser.
I don’t think it would change anything but who knows…
Happy Clack Attack Birthday to you…. Happy Clack Attack Birthday to you… you get the rest!
Thanks..
MayMay Made It her responsibility to let us know we need to wish an awesome HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁
Happy Birthday May-May from Brookiings "The Banna Belt" Oregon.

Thanks
Maymay mentioned that its your birthday and though you might like a clack attack with lots of birthday wishes.
Thanks…
Use a piece of gorilla tape (black stuff) rolled over on itself to weed the small pieces of masking tape off.
I have done that before, works pretty well
How about softballs that's also big around here............
On my list..
Why do you burn at 100% power each time?
So I can move faster. Time is money
What is seremark? Or, how do you spell it so I can look it up? Lol
Cermark is a marking spray.

@@TheClackShack thank you so much sir! I love your content. I’ll be ordering Cermark and give it a shot!
Burnin balls,hmmm
Yep
You could always just advertise it as a "branded-look" engraving.
